Dutchess County Ducks Unlimited (DCDU)was founded in 2012 by a group of committed, local conservationists with particular interest inwetlands conservation. Their mission is to bringthe educational resources and waterfowl habitatrestoration expertise of Ducks Unlimited toDutchess County. In turn, the Chapter willintroduce non-hunting conservationists andoutdoor enthusiasts to DU’s important work inNew York State, protecting waterfowl habitatalong the Atlantic Migratory Flyway. Both theHudson River and Harlem Valleys are within theAtlantic flyway, and their wetlands are used byducks as an important stopover and breedinghabitat. In Dutchess County, this premierwaterfowl habitat is provided in abundance bythe Great Swamp

Ducks Unlimited (DU) is the world leader inwetlands conservation. As a New York-foundedconservation non-profit, Ducks Unlimitedconserves, restores, and manages wetlands andassociated habitats for North America'swaterfowl. The habitats are also crucial forother wildlife and human habitation. In 2012Ducks Unlimited launched a new initiative,“Completing the Cycle,” to address the needs ofAtlantic flyway waterfowl throughout theirentire lifecycle. Thus far, DU has conservedmore than 500,000 acres within the AtlanticFlyway zone; of those, 44,000 acres are in NewYork State. The Second Annual Great SwampShoot and Conservation Program will helprealize DU’s vision of sustaining an abundantpopulation of waterfowl, sufficient enough to fillthe skies today, tomorrow, and forever. Thefunds raised from this event will provide thedirect income necessary for DU to advance itswork locally and nationally.
