Letter from the Editors
At Seriously, we don’t constantly critique each other on how those shoes don’t go with that shirt. Fashion is more than that. Fashion is the key to your identity. It helps make great impressions, expresses values you stand for, and it boosts your confidence because when you look good, you feel great.
Now that winter is coming, many cold and windy days await. This issue will help you keep warm and look stylish. Hampton high is a very classy school, so we figured you would enjoy a fashion issue. All of the journalism writers have worked hard to bring a Seriously styling publication, that we hope you like.
Your editors, Rebecca & Kyle
Lady Gaga, a star in many people’s eyes, shows her aTtude of not caring of what others think in this picture
and many others. Her open mind and colourful wear displays in her music videos, old and new. Her fashion doesn’t have any limits and is most of the Ume unexplainable. Her next music video will surely shock us all, as she has in the past.
Here is Mila Kunis from the well-‐known movies like Friends with Benefits as well as Ted. Spo>ed on the set of Friends With Benefits, Mila cut a casual swathe in a slouchy T, denim hot pants and flip-‐flops. Words fail us, in a good way, when it comes to this voluminous Vera Wang gown, which Mila wore to the 2010 Met Ball with swept back hair and lashings of diamonds. Mila is the new fashion star with the hit magazine GLAMOUR.

Value Village: Future of shopping
Though the unemployment rate is going down that doesn’t mean everybody has to go out and buy the best brand name clothing on the market. Value Village/Savers can be a great way to save money and get a good bang for your buck. A percentage the money also goes to the Organizations that help the needy so it’s not just you benefitting of amazing prices, you’re doing something helpful for others as well. When you’re younger, wearing brand name clothing is always a way to fit in and look like everybody else. When you get older and buy your own clothing, you soon learn that saving money is the way to go. Most of the time you can find brand name clothes at Value Village anyway, so it’s not necessarily a big deal. A good tip for buying clothing at Value Village is to always wash the clothes you buy before wearing. They could be dirty or could have bed bugs. This is not a problem if you wash them because it kills the critters. The clothing there is pretty clean and in usually in good condition. If you pick wisely you can get yourself a real find! So remember, saving money is a lot better than trying to buy brand name clothing, because having more money means more bacon.

History of the hoodie, Shaniah Girouard
The garment's style and form can be traced back to Medieval Europe when it was the normal clothing for monks. This was a long, decoraUve hood called a cowl a>ached to a tunic or robes, and a chaperon or hooded cape was very commonly worn by any outdoors worker. The hooded sweatshirt was first produced in the United States starUng in the 1930s. The modern clothing style was first produced by Champion in the 1930s and marketed to laborers working who endured freezing temperatures while working in upstate New York. The term hoodie entered popular usage in the 1990s.
The hoodie took off in the 1970s, with several factors contribuUng to its success. Hip hop culture developed in New York City around this Ume, and the hoodie's element of instant anonymity, provided by the accessible hood, appealed to those with criminal intent. High fashion also contributed during this era, as Norma Kamali and other high-‐profile designers embraced and glamorized the new clothing. Most criUcal to the hoodie's popularity during this Ume was its iconic appearance in the blockbuster Rocky film. Nowadays, hoodies are a staple in casual wardrobes around the world.

Fashion Trends for Fall 2013 and Winter 2014 Fashion trends change yearly, someUmes monthly, and in high school it may even seem like daily. We all want to be in the latest trend having them before anyone else we know. But with the trends changing so quickly it’s hard to keep up. One day it will be all about bright, neon colours and the next day all about pale pastels. How do we even begin to keep up with the newest trends for this year? Well here’s some inside Ups for fall 2013 and winter 2014 trends that will be hot!
For 2013 the look to have is loose fiTng, drooped shoulder coats, which makes it easier to layer without looking like there is too much on. Drooped shoulders and loose fiTng will also be a big hit in shirts as well. The colours will revolve around a deep, dark burgundy, as well as bright colours and printed designs. Leather is also a huge thing this year as well as its complementary fur accents. Fur always seems to be in style if you walk into any store, it is almost guaranteed that you will find a piece of clothing with fur a>ached. Scarves are a big thing this
season, the bigger the be>er as far as the fashion world is concerned.
For the 2014 winter season the trend will change quite a bit. High hemlines will be seen all over the world during this cold season. Luminous colours will be everywhere you look as long as it is navy blue. Navy blue will be incorporated into almost every garment produced. Deep metallic colours will be all over your school campus, making the wearers hard to miss. Plaid will be a pa>ern we cannot ignore. A blast from the past is about to hit the fashion world hard with the return of retro style.
Enough about clothing, doesn’t every girl want to know about make-‐up? I sure think that they do. Eye shadow is the focus for make-‐up fashion this coming year. Browns, like always will blend nice with most any colour you decide to wear, bright and light pinks will make your eyes pop and stand out all day long. Earthy green tones will go well with any light whites or pastel colours. Blues, dark and light, will draw that good a>enUon
to your eyes that every girl wants. You will have to be careful with your colours, one bad choice and it could go downhill, but good choices can make you the most fashionable girl in school.
Fashion is a big thing for most girls, even though half of them won’t admit it, it really is. It makes you who you are; people know your style more than they know you. Whether you get your clothing from a high end store, or a store like Frenchy’s, it’s sUll style. You create your own style. Fashion is a big part of our world, but you cannot let it define and destroy you. Even though we all want to have the ho>est, latest trends, we can’t, and that’s a fact of life. We can make our own fashion trends, and who knows, maybe they’ll show up in Paris or Milan one day, you just never know.

Interests in rela+on to fashion Fashion is the most noUceable and loudest voice of today’s generaUon. Not to menUon for the past few generaUons. Fashion was always compared to Ume periods and not to menUon genres of music and hobbies or interests. Whatever the interest is you can quite frequently see it reflected on the hairstyles of the person. Whether you’re a hockey player rocking a hairstyle called flow or you’re a disco lover with an afro we can all agree that interests reflect on the person’s looks.
In Hampton High School we have many people who have quite a big interest in the sport Hockey. Lately people playing hockey are enjoying the flow. The flow is a greasy long styled haircut that is not like the mullet but has certain resemblance in the structure. Both haircuts are long and majesUc. The mullet is a li>le bit greasier than the flow, unless it’s Jaromír Jágr mullet, that thing was beauUful.
flowed hair has become popular through hockey (helmet and hat hair)
afros are more from the 70’s but are still popular in some peoples opinion.
mullets are starting to
make a major come back in the younger generation
