Basic operations
Thank you for purchasing the IS12S. In this manual, settings and precautions on usage are described for using the IS12S.For basic operations, refer to "Start Guide".
Setting Guide

Initial settings
Opening Notification panelWhen a notification icon appears at the
left on the status bar, slide the status bar
downwards to open the Notification panel
and display the notification.

The first time the IS12S turns ON, the initial setting screen appears
automatically. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Alternatively, after setup completion, from the Home screen, t → [設定 (Settings)] → [言語とキーボード (Language & keyboard)] → [地域/言語を選択 (Select language)].

STEP 2: Setting up Internet connection■
Select Wi-Fi® setting method as follows. Set in a place where the radio wave of the Wi-Fi® network can be received.
For detailed descriptions of operations, refer to "Manual IS12S" application
in the IS12S or "取扱説明書詳細版 (Full Instruction Manual)" (Japanese)
available on au homepage.
pPower keyPower ONPress and hold p for over a second.
Canceling the keylockTouch and drag " " to " " to cancel the keylock.
Applications keyTap to display the applications screen.
tMenu keyTap to display available function (menu).
yHome keyTap to display Home screen.
xBack keyTap to return to the previous screen.

Notification panel
Touch panel operations■Tap/Double-tapLightly touch and release your finger.Double-tap: Tap the same position twice.
Long-touchKeep touching an item etc.
FlickQuickly move (flicking) your finger up, down, right, or left.
DragKeep touching an item or icon and trace to the desired direction.
PinchTouch with two fingers and widen (pinchout)/narrow (pinch-in) the fingers' distance.
Character inputUse the keyboard displayed when you tap an input field on the character
input screen of contacts, mail, etc.
KeyboardTo input Japanese, use "Xperia™ Japanese keyboard" switching 4 input types of "Phonepad", "QWERTY keyboard", "Japanese syllabary", "Handwriting".

STEP 4: Online service <Setting Google account>Setup Google account to use Google applications such as "Gmail", "Android Market", "Google Talk". Main setting items as follows. (Require registration of "First
name", "Last name", "Security question and Answer" besides the items below. if you do not have any mail address for "Secondary Email", remain in blank).
Username Register a character string for your Google account (user ID) and mail address. Username which is already used by someone cannot be set.
Password Register password for the Google account.

Introduction
Select and set from detected Wi-Fi® networks.For security protected Wi-Fi® network, enter the security key.
Add Wi-Fi® network manually.Check network SSID, authentication type, etc. in advance.
To use auto-setting (WPS)Connect to Wi-Fi® network using WPS compatible wireless LAN® device as an access point. Tap "Auto setup (WPS)" on the Wi-Fi settings screen and press the WPS button on the compatible device.

Use Quick setting widget to set Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, backlight, data transmission. Switching the settings reduces the battery power consumption.
STEP 4: Online service <Facebook>Register and log in to Facebook account to synchronize profile information
or images etc. opened by "Friends" of Social Network Service (SNS).

Using WEB de 請求書 (WEB de Seikyu-sho)Online billing statements, "WEB de 請求書" allows you to check your monthly charge using internet.
For the IS12S, billing statement can be checked on the PC web page. Support ID is required for checking your charge on "WEB de 請求書". If you do not have Support ID yet, make a registration*.
* For registration, "au phone number", "security code", "customer number (on the copy of new/change service agreement) are required.

Calling overseas from au phones (au International Call Service)
You can make international calls without any special procedure from
the IS12S. Dialpad screen → Input international access code, country
code, area code, phone number of the party → [Call].

E-mail settingE-mail (~@ezweb.ne.jp) is an au service which allows you to exchange mail with computers and mobile phones that support E-mail.Your E-mail address is determined automatically after initial setting. You can change the E-mail address later.* For model change from au phone, E-mail address used on the previous model
can be used continuously after initial settings.

PC-mailYou can use mail addresses except for E-mail (~@ezweb.ne.jp). You need to set up a PC-mail account to use PC-mail. When you use for the first time, make settings as follows.

Calling from call historyTap a phone number of the party from call history displayed on the
dialpad screen.

STEP 4: Online service <Sony Entertainment Network>
[Sony Entertainment Network] → Input Sign-In ID (email address) and
password → [Sign in] to set account.

* If you do not set any accounts, contacts will be saved to "Phone contact".
* For some data locations, select application.
