SHOCKWAVE & LASER THERAPY
methoD Description
Shockwave is an acoustic wave which carries high energy to the painful spot – fibrous or myoskeletal tissues with subacute, subchronic and chronic conditions. It provokes healing, regenerating and reparative processes.
phYsical principle of shockwavesShockwaves are characterized by a rapid change of pressure, high amplitude and non-periodicity. The energy produced and transferred to tissue is much higher than ultrasound energy. There are several ways to create shockwaves – BTL uses the pneumatic principle. Compressed air is used to generate kinetic energy which propels a metal projectile against a transmitter at the end of the applicator. Shockwaves generated by this effect spread out radially or in a focused manner depending on whether the transmitter profile is convex or concave. The spreading of the pressure wave is limited only by little absorption in the tissue, higher absorption occurs on acoustic non-homogeneities.
SHOCKWAVE MEDICAL EFFECTS
Improved metabolism and microcirculation
Dissolution of calcified fibroblasts
Increased collagen production
Decrease in muscle tension
Enhanced elimination of substance P – analgesic effect
phYsical principle of laserA laser emits light through a process called stimulated emission. LASER is an anachronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Photobiomodulation, also known as low level laser therapy (LLLT), is an emerging medical technique in which exposure to low-level laser light or light emitting diodes can stimulate or inhibit cellular function leading to beneficial clinical effects.
LASER MEDICAL EFFECTS
Biostimulation
Edema reduction
Anti–inflammatory effect (increases in mitochondrial, monocytes and scavenger cells activity)
Ligament neovascularization
Blood and lymph vessel regeneration
Analgesia (Beta endorphins production stimulation)

Programme W-0108 radial/ulnar epicondylitis
Therapy parameters type of shocks: continuous
pressure: 2 bar
frequency: 10 hz
number of shocks: 2000
Diameter of the head 15 mm
Patient position lying on back or sitting, arms in the right-angled flexion of the elbow, comfortably supported, preferably with a soft elastic pad
frequency of treatments preferably within 5–10 days
number of treatments 3–5 sessions
Process of treatment Manual localization of painful points in the area of radial/ulnar epicondyle and along the corresponding muscle groups of the forearm. > Application of gel. > Start the therapy with 400 shocks, 2 bar, 5 hz around the most painful point, subsequently treat the most painful point with approx. 1000 shocks, then apply successively to the corresponding muscle groups of the forearm, last 400 pulses apply with the frequency of 10 hz.
note Painful points are indicated by the dotted areas in the picture. The arrows indicate the direction of movement of the applicator.
Programme L-3016 radial/ulnar epicondylitis
Therapy parameters Dosage: 18 J/cm2
Power: by probe
Irradiated area: 1 cm2
frequency: Cont.
Duty factor (Df): Cont.
Probe infrared
Length of application according to power of the probe
frequency of treatments always after the application of shockwave, if needed, continue independently 2–3 times a week
Effect analgesic, antiedematous
note Apply according to the picture and on all painful points treated by shockwave. Apply laser therapy as soon as possible after the shockwave treatment. This will bring multiplication of the analgesic effect and prevention of the development of edema; in case of occurrence of haematoma its resorption is accelerated.

BTL offers a wide range of infrared and red probes. while infrared probes penetrate deeper into the tissue, the red probes are particularly suitable for treatment of superficial areas, such as wounds and scars. The invisible infrared probes are supplied with additional aiming beam.
Laser clusters present the latest in laser therapy for treatment of large areas. The homogeneous laser beam treats easily and in short time even areas over 50 cm2 (for example the area of 50 cm2 is treated with laser beam density of 2 J/cm2 for just 4 minutes).
