Brief Project Overview
Track distance run via GPS. Relay real time statistics to user via
LCD. Battery powered. Arm-mounted portable device
Ethical IssuesProduct Reliability and Safety Must be durable enough to work while being
jostled. Must test our product thoroughly to know what
levels of impact it can sustain—What if the runner trips?
Must ensure there are no loose pieces on the inside.
Must ensure battery will never short because this could cause personal injury.
Must be able to work when slightly moist. Runner will likely be sweating when wearing device
How will we address these issues? Test thoroughly to ensure it will always
work under normal operating conditions. Place warnings in user’s manual for
things such as: Do not store near fire. Do not wear in heavy rain
Place a warning label on back of device to remind user not to store near fire due to possibility of battery explosion.
Environmental Issues & Solutions LCD manufacturing
Produces Nitrogen Trifluoride, a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect.
SOLUTION: Could look into using “green LCDs”
Recycling our product Do not want product’s pieces to end up in a
landfill. SOLUTION: Could offer a monetary reward
to user’s who return their product to us after it’s life cycle is complete. We could then recycle the parts as necessary.
