M e e t i n g s
Any sibling relationship is special. It is a mixture of love and admiration, frustration and
jealously. Siblings of brothers and sisters with disabilities experience these same emotions but
with a unique perspective. Sibshops is an opportunity for the brothers and sisters (age 6-12) of
children with disabilities to nd peer support in a fun, relaxed environment. Sibshops is
designed to encourage participants to explore common feelings (positive or negative), problem
-solve dicult situations and learn about various implications of disabilities.
This event is for Parents interested in learning about what Sibshops has to oer. Information
about registration information for the 2014-15 Sibshops sessions will also be shared. Parents
will also have the opportunity to hear from an Adult Sibling Panel on the topic of Growing Up
With A Sibling with Special Needs.
We are pleased to introduce Krista Walburn & Jamie Gehringer as the facilitators of Ollie Webb Center, Inc. Sibshops.
Krista was raised in Omaha, NE and has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas. She will graduate with a Master of Arts degree in
Community Counseling from UNO in August 2014. Krista is currently wrapping up an internship at the Munroe -Meyer Institute, where shedoes behavior therapy with children. After graduation, Krista will pursue a career in that very same line or work, and is also interested in be-
ginning a doctorate program in the near future. Krista has a 24-year-old sister, who has been diagnosed with learning disabilities in math andreading, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and Schizophrenia. Growing up with her sister was rough, at times, and Krista wishes she had had a group
where she could express her thoughts and feelings. This is why Krista looks forward to co -facilitating a Sibshops group, so that kids can meet
other kids with siblings with special needs, talk about similar concerns and joys, and have a ton of fun!
Jamie is from Papillion, NE and is pursuing his doctorate at the University of Nebraska Medical Center studying Behavioral Neurosci ence andhas an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from UNL. He hopes to help develop therapeutic and adaptive technologies with his
degrees. He has many years of experience working with children from his time volunteering as a Buddy and Coach with TOPSoccer for playerswith special needs and as a sta member at Cam p Munroe at the Munroe -Meyer Institute. He is also a sibling to a brother with Down syn-drome. He is really excited to get Sibshops going again and looks forward to meeting everyone!
