SIXTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
(Readings: Sirach 15:15-20 — 1 Corinthians 2:6-10 — Matthew 5:17-37)
Choices — “If you choose you can keep the commandments,” Sirach tells us. God
“has set before you fire and water; to whichever you choose, stretch forth your
hand” (Sirach 15:15, 16). This is a great mystery: God does not control us so com-
pletely that we cannot choose our own path. We have certain boundaries, of course,
but no one but we can choose our way within those boundaries. In today’s reading
from Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our freedom and our responsibility for
our lives. He calls us to look beyond the words of the commandments, all the way to
their meaning. Look beyond the adultery to the selfishness that poisons our love.
Look beyond the murder to the anger that eats away at our compassion. Look beyond
the perjured testimony to the lies and deception that drive our behavior. Our vocation
is to choose life for ourselves, and to choose a path through our part of the world that
helps make life possible and more abundant for others as well.
“Let Your Light Shine”
In today’s Gospel, part of his Sermon on the Mount,
Jesus does not speak of replacing the law of the Old
Testament. He goes beyond it. He obliges his
followers to work at being holier than even the
strictest of Pharisees. But the work is not accom-
plished by following a religious “law”, it requires
growing in love for other human beings. Followers
of Jesus know they are required to be good
stewards of others. In what way will you exercise
good stewardship over other people this week?

Support Our Troops
Twice a year, Blessed Trinity’s Council of Catholic Women sends out “Cookie for the Troops” Care Packages. Last November we sent 156 boxes of cookies and other comforts of home to our troops
serving in combat. We NEED your help again! Donate items to send to our troops:
These small ubiquitous items we civilians take for granted can have an uplifting impact on the lives of
our service men and woman serving so far away from home. If you know a soldier in a combat zone and would like them to receive one of our care packs, please give their name and address to
Pat Matteson 407-733-3069 or the Parish Office. For more info please call Pat Matteson.
Please put donations in red box or bring your donations to the Welcome Center clearly marked “Troop Care Packs” by March 10th. The boxes will be packed on Saturday March 11th in
order for them to arrive before Easter. God bless you and thank you for your support!
