Existing site context
SPA SCHOOL, CAMBERWELL DECEMBER 2017
KEY DESIGN FACTORS; - Secure site access- Environment supportive of learning needs- All primary classrooms with easy playground acccess- Separate primary and secondary spaces- Classrooms paired with small group rooms and sensory spaces- Secure entrance lobby- Separate staff area- Large staff training space- Secure pick up and drop off- Separate dining hall- Mix of different landscape / play conditions
TRAFFIC:
The vast majority of pupils will arrive to school on minibuses and by public transport. A drop off area is proposed within Harris Street for pupils arriving in cars / taxis. By looking at current drop off arrangement proportion on the SPA School Monnow Road site, it is anticipated that a maximum of 16 vehicles (6 taxis and 10 private cars) could drop-off and pick-up pupils on a regular basis. This figure does not allow for any lift-sharing, which is likely to occur. The school will operate 2 time-periods for pupil arrival and departure at the start and end of every school day. These will operate for 2 periods of 15 minutes around 9am and 3.15pm.
TREES:
It is proposed to remove an existing tree within the Southeast corner of the site. The landscape strategy will be developed to provide replacement trees and planting along the Southampton Way boundary and elsewhere within the site.
KEY OUTDOOR SPACES:
- Secure Play Space- Growing Area / Greenhouse- MUGA- Pick up / drop off
