Today's Gospel is illustrating for us the beginning of the mission of Jesus. Matthew writes how Jesus is the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy of the Messi-ah. Jesus is the light that leads all out of darkness. Galilee is the setting as Jesus begins to preach that the Kingdom of God is at hand. He also se-lects the the first of his 12 apostles. The men who will form the foundation of Christ's church, who will continue the mission of changing lives, of gather-ing people to the Kingdom. What can we learn from this? What can we experience? All members of the church, by virtue of their Baptism, are called to ministry. Each Christian has a vocation to share in the proclamation of the Good News. This is our privilege and our duty. Every Christian is called to ministry, a word which means “service.” It is the role of all Christians to serve their sisters and brothers and to reflect Christ’s light on those around them, and all of us are called to do it full time. We may not have a job which allows us to publicly proclaim the Gospel as the ordained min-isters do. We may make our living from some job which is not directly related to church ministry, but that does not mean we are not called to full time ministry. We are also called in some way to give our talents and abilities in some form of church service: as lectors, eucharistic ministers, musi-cians, catechists, ushers, and/or members of church organizations. Our most important area of ministry and service is within our families and at our work or school, since that is where we spend most of our time. It is in these settings that we are called to be evangelists. We are not to be bullies that force other people to believe like we do, with the threat of not accepting them if they don’t be-lieve as we do. We have a vocation, and that voca-tion is to bring those around us to experience the presence of God. How awesome and humbling it is to think that God wants us to be a part of the min-istry of Jesus. Yet, that is exactly what we are called to do, as disciples.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. For the Sunday Masses of January 25-26, we asked you to bring your personal or family Bible to Mass with you. During the Mass we will have a commitment and blessing prayer as you hold your Bibles. After Mass we will provide you with a ser-vice to enthrone and honor the Bible in your homes.

QUOTES ON CONFESSION:
In the life of the body a man is sometimes sick, and unless he takes medicine, he will die. Even so in the spiritual life a man is sick on account
of sin. For that reason he needs medicine so that he may be restored to health; and this
grace is bestowed in the Sacrament of Penance. --St. Thomas Aquinas

III DOMINIO DEL TEMPO ORDINARIO Mt 4,12 - 23

III DOMINDO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO Mt 4,12 - 23
