JULY 21, 2019 SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My name is Fr. Christopher Manning and as Fr. Manuel told you last week I will
be your New Associate Pastor. In addition to serving here I have also been
assigned as the New Chaplain at Notre Dame High School. I come to you from St.
John Neumann Church in Knoxville where I also served as the Chaplain of
Knoxville Catholic for six years. It was a great blessing to serve those
communities and I hope that you will someday be able to give them a word of
thanks for all the work they did in helping to shape my living into the priesthood
of Jesus Christ. In addition to teaching & serving as the Champlain at KCHS, I also
have the honor of calling it my alma mater for I call Knoxville, home. Growing up
my family attended Sacred Heart Cathedral and I went there as a student. After
Sacred Heart, I attended Knoxville Catholic where I graduated in the year 2000. I
then went to Maryville College where I earned a degree in history with a teaching
license. I am sure during my time at St. Stephen’s you will come to know my love
of history for not only was it my undergraduate degree but I also went on to get
my Masters in Pre-modern European History from the University of Tennessee
Knoxville. It was after earning my Masters Degree that I decided to enter into
Seminary. For seminary the Diocese sent me to Chicago where I attended St.
Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary. While at seminary I got a Bachelor’s
Degree in Sacred Theology, A Masters of Divinity, and started a licentiate in
Sacred Theology. That is my academic background but other important things to
know about me are that I have one sister who lives in Denver. She is a lawyer so
one of us chose the light side while one went to the dark. My Dad, who grew up
here in Chattanooga, recently retired from Sacred Heart where he helped to run
their after school program and their summer camp while my mom is still working
as an OB/GYN. I love all things Disney, especially the parks, and actually have
two trips planned for later this school year. I love serving the people of God in
the high school and know I am truly looking forward to serving you here at St.
Stephen and have already been praying for you. This is a very incomplete look at
myself and we will have plenty of opportunities to learn more about each other
as I come to know the community of St. Stephen and you come to know me.
