CHAPTER # 1
WHAT IS PROCRASTINATION?
The act of putting off important things which should be done now is known as
procrastination. And a person who delays or postpones important things is called a
Procrastinator.
The word Procrastination is derived from Latin’s “procrastinare”, which has two parts the
prefix Pro means ‘forward’ and the suffix ‘crastinus’ mean till next day or ‘tomorrow’.
It is avoidance of doing a task that needs to be completed. It is the practice of replacing
your more urgent tasks with less urgent ones, thus putting off tasks at hand to a later time.
In some cases, procrastination continues until the "last minute" before a cut-off date.
The Procrastination can affect all areas of life like putting off cleaning the stove, submitting
a job report or academic assignment, seeing a doctor or broaching a stressful issue with a
partner.
Procrastination not only makes you feel guilty and depressed, it also lowers your self-
esteem.
Now the real question is why do people procrastinate?
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
We being human tend to replace the less pleasurable things with more pleasurable things.
What this means is, a procrastinator tends to do things with immediate gratification and
puts off things where the gratification isn’t immediate.
So we can say instant gratification is one of the key factors responsible for Procrastination.
A procrastinator puts off urgent task till the last minute and for doing so he comes with
many excuses.
Do you remember yourself thinking while you have to do an urgent task, I will do it later or
there is enough time still or I have my own priorities?
The truth is if you manage to complete your urgent tasks in a given time, you will feel
happier. But in spite of knowing this fact, you still procrastinate, why? In the next chapter,
we will try to figure out the reasons behind procrastination.
Before diving into what causes of procrastination, let me clear one thing, Procrastination is
a habit just like any other bad habit. And you can quit it with planning and by adopting
certain anti-procrastination habits.
I will give you 33 anti-procrastination habits to help you rout out this destroying habit.

CHAPTER # 2
WHY YOU PROCRASTINATE SO MUCH?
We all procrastinate on important things from time to time but the real problem starts
when procrastination takes the form of a habit. If you are a part of 20% of people who are
chronic procrastinators, then you need to take some massive actions to get rid of this self-
killing habit.
As I said earlier, human beings tend to do the things which are more pleasurable regardless
of their level of importance. Because by doing something important simply means you have
to sacrifice something more pleasurable you are already doing, you will surely delay this
for sometime later.
With that said, the causes of procrastination are not limited to just hating the task, there
might many underlying factors which make you procrastinate too much.
Here I will discuss most important factors responsible for procrastination.
Perceived Difficulty of the Task
Oftentimes, the task itself isn’t that difficult but you don’t start it because you perceive it to
be difficult. What that means is the perceived difficulty of the task is one of the most
important factors responsible for procrastination.
Fear of Failure
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Do you know it is often fair of failure which prevents you from starting a certain task? It
happens you don’t start a task because you are afraid of being not able to complete it.
Here the most important point to keep in mind is you aren’t aware of this fear of failure and
you just think you didn’t start because you are not in the mood.
Anxiety & Stress
Being stressed is another reason behind procrastination. If you fail to manage your stress
and anxiety you are simply going to hate the task and as result, you won’t start working on
it.
A procrastinator usually doesn’t hate tasks themselves but he hates the emotions that flow
through his mind while doing these tasks.
Depression & Bad Moods
If you are suffering from depression, bad moods, and mood swings, you will surely delay
your current plans. What this means is bad moods and mood swings are another reason
behind procrastination.
If you manage to fix your bad moods, you will surely overcome this habit of delaying tasks.
Lack Of Self Regulation
If you are kind of person who has little or no control over his temporary desires and
impulses then you are likely to delay your important tasks and in the end feel guilty.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Self-regulation and time management are important to overcome procrastination. Just
beware of your temporary desires and impulses.
Does procrastination help? There is a big No rather procrastination causes guilt and it
makes your mind stressed. A procrastinator always remains in stress and pain.
The truth is starting out and completing a task is a great way of removing stress and
pressure from your mind. We feel extremely relaxed once we complete anything which was
on our to-do list. On the other hand, if you postpone something which was an important
one, you are stopping your onward progress.
It will always remain on your agenda and will cause stress. If you want to be happier and
more confident then set your goals and proceed according to your set schedules. In this
way, you always have the satisfaction of completed work.

CHAPTER # 3
THE REAL COSTS OF PROCRASTINATION
Procrastination is a very bad habit which leads to many physical and psychological effects.
It may lead to depression, a lower self-worth and insomnia as well.
A procrastinator continues putting things off and with the passage of time procrastination
takes the form a habit. The problem is, he is not aware of the hidden costs of
procrastination. It can cost you more than you can imagine.
In this chapter we will discuss the real costs of procrastination, just to make you aware of
the effects of this bad habit.
1. You Waste Precious Time
This is perhaps the biggest cost of procrastination. By putting things off you are losing your
precious time.
Because a procrastinator waits until the last possible minute to do things, therefore he is
found dealing with long lines. He also misses out benefits of investing early.
Can you imagine how much time you have wasted till today, just because of your
procrastination habit? Perhaps you have wasted your two, five or ten years, without
making reasonable progress. You are standing there where you were years before. Why?
Just because you keep putting things off!!
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
You will feel terrible because you can’t rewind your life and can’t get back the time you
have wasted. A procrastinator feels frustrated at himself when he realizes how much time
he has wasted and nothing is worse than feeling frustrated at yourself.
2 – Procrastination Can Ruin Your Career
Success in all areas of life is directly related to the way you work and how well you manage
to perform.
Sure enough, procrastination prevents you from achieving your targets or meeting
deadlines, hence you can imagine the possible consequences of the same on your career.
Your habit of procrastination may lead you to miss out on promotions, increments and in
worse conditions; you may lose your job.
3 - You Miss On Opportunities
A procrastinator at the workplace is branded as a lazy person. Consequently, you miss out
promotions because the projects you want to do are offered to someone else who is
thought to be more competent.
Imagine how many opportunities have you missed out because you didn’t take action at the
right time (you procrastinated on). You already know some opportunities are life changing
and these don’t come again and again.
You too can miss out on a life-changing opportunity if you keep procrastinating. So get rid
of this damaging habit as soon as possible.

4 – Procrastination Costs You Money
Yeah! Procrastination costs you money and there are a lot of ways you waste money.
For example, you pay late fees with a penalty, you don’t take advantage of early bird
discounts, you pay credit card bills late, you buy gift late. In this way by delaying what you
need to do, it costs you more when you finally get to do these things afterward.
5 – You Fail To Achieve Goals
Because you don’t take the first step towards your goals, you fail to achieve them
eventually. The reason behind is the procrastination which comes into action with full force
when you think of your goals or want to change something.
We all set goals to improve our lives because we have a deep desire for betterment. But
procrastination will prevent you from taking the very first step towards your goals. And in
this way, you miss out the possibility of making your life better.
All you need is to dig deep and uncover the root cause of your procrastination - this is how
you will be able to achieve your goals in life.
6 – Procrastination Lowers Self-esteem
If you have an assignment or job to do and at the end of the day the job wasn’t done, you
will feel very bad about yourself. You will also feel down and find it difficult to concentrate
on other things as well.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
As a matter of fact, a low self-esteem is one of the factors behind procrastination and
procrastinating further lowers your self-esteem. Procrastination will cause you to doubt
your capabilities and you start to think about what is wrong with you.
Procrastination will slowly eat away your self-worth and self-confidence. You will start to
hold yourself back and feel inferior.
7 – Procrastination Leads To Poor Decisions
Your decisions are directly affected by your emotions and procrastination affects how you
feel to a great extent.
If you procrastinate on things, you tend to make poor decisions. This is mostly because by
procrastinating, your criteria for decisions making becomes something which most likely
wouldn’t be there if you didn’t procrastinate.
Your decisions are always under pressure because you have left very little time behind, this
leads to poor decisions in most cases.
8 – A Low-Quality Output
Putting things off until the last moment can cost you quality. Just for instance if you delay
studying and wait for the night before exams, the quality of your product will suffer a lot.
Procrastination leads you to sacrifice on the quality of the end product and leaves with a
little to no options.

CHAPTER # 4
MAKE PROCRASTINATION WORK FOR YOU
We all procrastinate to some extent and put off things that we feel less pleasurable. Mostly
importantly procrastinators don’t sit there and do nothing while procrastinating; rather
they do a lot of less important things in order to avoid the most important one.
What all this means is, Procrastination is an art of doing something else when there are
more important tasks to do. Here you can make your procrastination work for you.
The act of delaying things to the last moment is the true form of Procrastination and you
will be happy to know you can use this to your own advantage. I know you are thinking,
“How a bad habit like procrastination can be used to your advantage?” Just continue
reading…
You can use this act of delaying to prevent you from being overbooked. Most of the times
you get yourself overbooked and overload your schedules with a lot of commitments and
activities. The Inner truth is you actually don’t want to do those things, but you already said
‘yes’ without thinking about it.
Now here is the trick, when someone asks you for doing something, don’t say yes
immediately, but respond him that you need to check your schedule. Ask them to wait for a
day or two to think about it and also tell them you will get them back with your answer.
In this way, you can use procrastination to stop being overbooked or overloaded.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
With that said, procrastination can help you do a lot of things. Though it sounds strange,
you can make it work exceptionally well. All you need is to have the main project that needs
completion, but you hate doing it.
For example, if you need to work on your thesis but you don’t want to finish it. So, you will
be doing a lot of other things, like cleaning your house and many other things that you
never completed. This is just to avoid working on the thesis.
The thesis is just an example; you can make your procrastination work for you. Let it push
you to complete all your pending tasks, including your thesis as well.
This is how you can do a lot of things just because of your habit of procrastination. All you
need is to think a bit differently and use procrastination to your advantage.
As discussed above, you can use it to prevent you from being overburden. You can delay by
saying yes to everyone, it will give you time to think and you won’t be overbooked.
Procrastination also helps you to get things done, because when you are procrastinating on
certain things, you aren’t just sitting around. Rather you are doing something else to avoid
that major thing that needs to be done.
So do yourself a favor and stop beating you up. Just enjoy perfecting the art of
procrastination.

CHAPTER # 5
HOW TO GET RID OF PROCRASTINATION?
We all want to succeed in life, but most of the time we fail to take advantage of the
opportunities which life brings to us. And the biggest reason for not availing the life-
changing opportunities is being a procrastinator.
Sure enough, procrastination hinders our success and growth. Procrastination and laziness
go hand in hand and being a lazy person you think you have a lot of time to finish the
important tasks.
You put off tasks until the last possible moments and become stressed. Sometimes the
stress increases to such an extent that you do things in an ineffective manner. As a result,
the quality of your end product won’t be great enough.
Before it is too late, let’s find out how to get rid of Procrastination.
Firstly notice yourself, if you feel are a victim of procrastination then all you need is to get
organized. And start from right now. Start by organizing your room, your time, your daily
routine and the things you usually do.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
By doing these things, you will develop a sense of organization which will further enhance
your stability. After some time being organized will become your habit, thus any time you
notice something out of order, and you will immediately put it in the proper place.
With the passage of time, this sense of organization will help you imbibe an order in you,
and this will really help you to beat your procrastination habit.
Secondly, make a routine. One helpful way is to maintain a monthly planner and write
down both your short term and long terms goals in it. Also, mention the possible ways to
complete those tasks.
While making a list of tasks, make sure to mention even the minor things like ironing
clothes in your monthly planner.
Next, the most important things are to make a habit of doing these things and don’t skip
anything from your routine. I know you will find it very hard to follow this routine, but
once you managed to stick with this routine; things will become quite easier for you.
After some time, you will notice yourself accomplishing your short term as well as long-
term goals within given time period. In this way, you will complete your goals in a timely
manner and thus you manage to get rid of the habit of putting things off.
With that being said, with planning and doing things in a productive manner will help you
get rid of the habit of procrastination and will boost your productivity as well. By
accomplishing your goals within the allocated time frame you will organize your lifestyle.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Sure enough, when you start to manage your time well, you will be always left with a lot of
time every day. And you can carry out other activities you love to do and which were not
possible due to your habit of procrastination.

CHAPTER # 6
33 ANTI- PROCRASTINATION HABITS
As discussed in the previous chapters, Procrastination is the mother of all evil spirits and it
can literally stop you from achieving all goals in life.
In the previous chapter I have mentioned some fundamental steps to get rid of this habit of
procrastination, now I will give you 33 anti-procrastination habits you.
APH # 1: Build Do It Now Attitude
The very first Anti-Procrastination-Habit is to build “Do It Now Attitude”. This is a really
powerful way to get rid of procrastination. Whenever you feel like skipping some task that
needs to be done, just think it now or never. By thinking this you will always manage to
beat your procrastination.
As we all know breaking habits especially the bad ones is always an uphill task to do. Same
goes true with the habit of putting things off until the last minute; once this habit is formed
it is really hard to break. But this doesn’t mean you should lose hope and stop trying.
Just hold your breath and jump right into the task that feels strange or feels like a forced
action. This is how you can break this cycle of procrastination. All I mean to say is don’t
wait until the last moment, do it now and make a habit of doing it now.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
By building do it now attitude you will look an organized person and more importantly you
will feel a relief and gratitude when the job is done before the deadline.
APH # 2: Decode Your Procrastination
You might not be aware of the fact that procrastination is trying to deliver you some
important message.
When you don’t feel in the mood to accomplish something, the very simplest reason could
be you need a break from your routine or you need to eat something. On the other hand,
there might something complex behind your habit of procrastination like you aren’t
satisfied with your job or you have a work overload.
So do yourself a favor and instead of beating yourself for procrastinating, take some time to
decode your procrastination. In other words, try to figure out why you’re procrastinating.
APH # 3: Divide Your Task into Manageable Parts
So you need to complete a large project and you are unable to start the task seems too
overwhelming. Just divide it into small manageable parts and focus on every single part at a
time. If you still procrastinate on the task after breaking it down, then break it down even
further. Soon you will see your task as much simple to get started.
Let’s suppose you need to write an eBook then instead of writing the whole book at one
time just divide it down into parts like; brainstorming idea, researching information,
drafting the content, writing chapter #1 to Conclusion, proof-reading etc. And complete
every single step at one time.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
You simply need to break down the project into smaller manageable parts and work on
each part separately. Make each task an individual project and after completion of each
one, celebrate and acknowledge your achievement.
In this way, your task or project will look much easier and interesting to do.
APH # 4: Start with The Most Enjoyable Part
The hardest part of doing any task is always starting the task. Once you managed to get
started on a task then you will surely get it done.
So you should begin with the most interesting part of the project this will help you get
started. The reason behind is the release of dopamine, which occurs whenever we excited
about something or when something looks interesting to us.
APH # 5: Set Daily Deadlines
Instead of waiting for next Monday, just set the concrete daily deadlines for getting the
thing done. As I said earlier break down your task into small manageable parts and then set
a daily deadline to complete a single part on daily basis.
Suppose you chose a topic for your new eBook on Monday, do research on Tuesday and
make an outline on Wednesday. This daily deadline will keep you moving towards your end
goal which finishing the eBook within one or two weeks.
APH # 6: Fire The Distractions
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Stop browsing too much as it distracts you more and reduces your focus. Check if you are
using social media sites too often, just reduce the usage as I don’t suggest to delete your
social accounts altogether.
If you are procrastinating too much then you need to eliminate your procrastination pit-
stops. Identify your browser bookmarks which distract you often and consume most of
your time. Just delete them or simply move them to a separate folder which is least
accessible.
Disable email and other desktop notifications and get rid of all other distractions which
lead you to procrastination.
APH # 7: Use Power Of Visualization
You can use the power of visualization to have you effortlessly achieve your dreams and
goals.
When you create a vision you write in the present tense… If you find yourself
procrastinating on something, just visualize yourself doing and finally completing that
important task. This visualization is really powerful and it can do wonders for you in
quitting procrastination.
When you visualize, you see as if you have already achieved your goal or if you are in the
process of completing it.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Here is an example of how you can use visualization. Suppose you need to work on some
business plan and you can’t do that due to procrastination. You can visualize something like
below:
“I am feeling grateful because I have done all the research work needed for my business
plan. I am collecting all the information easily using the internet. I am connecting with
people that have written successful business plans and I am using their advice to create an
exciting plan that I resonate with. As I write, the words come to me effortlessly….”
In creating a vision and focusing on it daily, the universal law states that things, people,
processes will begin to occur in your life that will allow you to attract that vision.
By visualizing and focusing on it daily, you will actually start to work on your business plan
or task that needs to be done.
APH # 8: Don’t Run Alone
If you put off things because you feel that these are too complex and big for you to handle
alone, then you should seek assistance. There is nothing wrong with asking for help
because “No man is an island”.
There could be many people out there to assist you in doing those complex and big tasks.
Let’s suppose you are a solo-professional and procrastinate on answering emails, then all
you need is to hire an assistant or find someone that wants experience or get a family
member to do it for you.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
If you procrastinate on life-changing activities due to your fear of the unknown, then find a
mentor, get a mastermind group or join some support group.
What I mean to say is, you don’t have to do it all by yourself. Ask for assistance and do what
feels good to you to kick this habit of procrastination.
APH # 9: Dig Deep Into Your Desires
To kick procrastination, spare some time to find out what you really want from life and
what your personal values are. Find what your core desires are; Do you want more time,
more money, better health, greater self-esteem and confidence, more fulfilling
relationships, a different career, set up a business?
The answers to above questions are really important. Because when you procrastinate, this
is mostly because what you are planning to do is not really aligned with what you truly
want. You may be scared of your skills or fear mockery from others.
With that being said, getting really clear on what you actually want from your life is really
important to overcome procrastination. This clarity will help you to look past distractions
that may throw you off course. It gives you a direction and a target and will help to form a
mental picture of your life.
One of the adverse effects of procrastination is that it makes you feel out of control; you feel
as if the events of your life are controlling you. If you don't know what you really want in all
areas of life, it becomes too easy to jump from the one task to the next.
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Apart from knowing what you want you should also develop some strong reasons why you
want it. This will give you a sense of purpose and motivation that is critical for staying
focused long term.
APH # 10: Health Comes First
If you are not enjoying good health, you will lack the energy and dynamism required to
bring positive changes in your life. And this becomes easier and inevitable to procrastinate
when you are really out of good health.
To kick procrastination and bring positive changes in your life you need to take great care
of your health. Make sure you are having a healthy diet, taking enough sleep, exercising
and meditate regularly. By the way, it is thought that regular meditation helps to delay the
effects of aging process.
It is said, a healthy mind rests in a healthy body, so when you have a healthy mind you have
energy and dynamism to beat procrastination habit.
APH # 11: Catch Your Self-Talk
Self Talk is that little voice that auto-plays in your head all the time. You need to monitor
your self-talk because it can dismiss a wonderful idea that you might have. Usually, it says
things like "I'm not in the mood" "I don't have time" "I can't do this". And these negatives in
your head cause you to delay things until the last moment.
It very important to stop these auto-playing little voices and then replace the words
"should's" "oughts" "have to" with "want to" "desire".
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
You have a choice. Acknowledge your choices and expel the malfunction. Again, using
affirmations can help you replace the blip with more positive alternatives.
APH # 12: Learn To Say No!
Saying "yes" to everything most of the times leaves you feeling tired and without the
energy required to focus on what is most important for you. As a result, you start dropping
projects and tasks.
Here the key is to learn to say “No” to things and commitments that you can’t fulfill in time.
All you need is to identify what is most important to you. Then only focus on those areas
which will make the biggest difference in your life. It will enhance your focus and
motivation.
APH # 13: Adopt S.M.A.R.T Strategy
You can’t motivate yourself unless you have a good idea of what you want to accomplish.
You need to be crystal clear about your goals and you should think about what you really
want to achieve in the short term and long term.
For goal setting you can use the S.M.A.R.T (S = specific M = measurable A= Action R =
Realistic T = Time based) Strategy. This strategy works on setting up Specific, Measurable,
Action-Oriented, Realistic and Time-Based Goals. You can also use some goal setting
software which helps you in goal setting.
You can read more S.M.A.RT strategy here.
APH # 14: Revisit Your Goals
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Also remember to be flexible, revisit your goals regularly and modify or drop some of them
if it seems necessary. Just because a goal is written down doesn't mean that it is set in
stone!
Now you are clear about your goals, next you should prioritize them by developing a plan
or schedule to achieve your goals. While prioritizing and making a plan for your goals you
need to identify whether some elements need to be included or enhanced or dropped
completely.
APH # 15: Reward yourself
Once you are on the road to completing tasks, you must reward yourself and give yourself
something you want. So instead of seeing a film before you complete a task, see it afterward
and make it a reward for you.
APH # 16: Do Challenging Tasks
If your tasks are too simple, you will lose enthusiasm which is definitely necessary for
completing projects.
If your day to day tasks are too simple and easy to accomplish, you will definitely lose the
enthusiasm. As a result, you will start procrastinating on important tasks. So to maintain
your enthusiasm, you need to create and do some sort of challenging tasks.
While creating tasks make sure they are reasonable, otherwise, you will get discouraged
and abandon them before completion.
APH # 17: Respect The Nature
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
Nature has created day and night for us to become tired (by doing work) and then get
recharged (by having a good sleep). If you want to accomplish more then you should
respect the nature by going to sleep early and thus wake up early.
The night is for sleep not for work, and the day is for work not for sleep. When you spend
your life against the rules defined by nature itself, your life suffers. So don’t break the
nature’s rules. This is how you can spend your life more purposefully and ultimately get rid
of your habit of procrastination.
Because there are many physical and psychological benefits associated with sleeping early
and waking early in the morning.
APH # 18: Get Inspiration Dose
You can boost your inspiration by hanging out with people who inspire you and who are
not procrastinators. In this way, you will get a dose of inspiration to infuse drive and spirit
into your work routine.
Another great way to beat procrastination is to hang out with people who are living your
dreams. By connecting with those people and seeking advice will help you accomplish your
goals too.
APH # 19: Stop Struggling
Often you procrastinate on things when the emotional force isn’t strong enough to push
you for taking a forward action. What is happening in the background is; a positive force
STOP PROCRASTINATION
BY SUBHA MALIK - WWW.POSITIVEBLAZE.COM
within your head is being counteracted by a negative one, thus making you feel neutral and
unmotivated. This leaves you sitting on the fence and accomplishing nothing.
The real problem comes when you feel guilty. This further adds to the emotional hot pot! So
the very first thing to follow is to simply STOP rather than struggle.
APH # 20: Be Observant Of You
Be observant and notice every detail of your procrastination. You should notice things like.
“What is actually making you avoid the task? What is driving the negative force or emotion
about the task at hand? And what are you afraid of? ”
Just take the example of writers (notorious procrastinators), they sit down with the good
intention of writing and then quickly get distracted by things like a layer of dust on the
shelves, a pile of washing in the corner and dishes that need washing.
The truth is usually the writers have the fear of being not able to write anything readable.
This prevents them from writing and they procrastinate too often. This is the counter-force
behind their procrastination.
So be observant and notice what your counter-force is.
APH # 21: Utilize The Power Of Immediacy
One of the powerful ways to get rid of procrastination is to learn and utilize the power of
immediacy. Think about things that you do right now. What action can you take
immediately to move closer to your goal or task? Here the key is to do something, no
matter how small to break your mental cycle of procrastination.

Create a sense of urgency to help you take the very first step. Once you manage to take the
first step, no matter how small it is, you will create momentum and you will automatically
be driven to take the second step.
Don’t be a perfectionist and take the very first step towards your goal, without waiting for
everything to be perfect. Just do it and get it going. Often you will only know what to do
next after taking that first step.
APH # 22: Setup Daily Reminders
If you waste your precious time and don’t finish your important tasks, then you should set
up daily or hourly reminders to remind you of working on something. These reminders
won’t allow you to waste your time.
Another great way is to set up a reminder that gives you motivation quotes, just to keep
you motivated towards your important tasks.
APH # 23: Kill This Bug First
If you are a perfectionist you will be procrastinating on things because a perfectionist
doesn’t consider a task done and unless it is 100% accurate. So being a perfectionist you
won’t start a task because you are afraid of not accomplishing it with 100% accuracy.
With that being said, for beating procrastination you need to kill the perfectionism bug
first. As a matter of fact, a task done 80% accurately should be considered as OK and
acceptable. So don’t look for 100% accuracy, rather allow yourself for 20% errors or short
comes. In this way, you will make it easy for you to take the very first step.

APH # 24: Focus on Results
Nobody loves to visit a dentist or doctor but most people do visit them because they get
results. I am sure you too don’t enjoy going to the dentist. But you go because you want a
result which is making your teeth and gums healthier and appealing. So you are ready to do
the unpleasant task when you consider it worthwhile.
Why not apply the same mentality to a challenging task? A task may seem boring or
difficult to work on, but when you focus on the end result or the end benefit you will start
working on it.
Just focus on how great it is going to feel to get something important accomplished. And
also think about how worse you’ll feel when you don’t give it your best and delay the task
until the last moment.
APH # 25: Forgive yourself
It is pointless to beat yourself when you procrastinate and fail to accomplish something in
time. If you think you can avoid procrastination in future by punishing yourself, then you
are totally wrong.
The truth is beating you up is not going to help you out rather it will send you right back
into procrastination trap again.
So just forgive yourself for the past unfinished things, and make a new start. This will
surely help you overcome your procrastination.
APH # 26: Refuel Your Creative Energy

One of the best ways to beat procrastination is entertaining yourself. You can go to the
cinema watching the latest movie, play your favorite game and visit an art museum. At
some point, it becomes inevitable to get away from your work and refuel your creative
energy. Perhaps this is the best way to beat procrastination.
APH # 27: Change Your Frame Of Mind
Another great way to avoid procrastination is changing the channel of your procrastination.
To do this you need to change your lifestyle. If you are a person who sits all day in front of
computer or TV, then you need to change this routine.
Here is how you can change your scenery, get up, do some stretches, jog in place, do
pushups, and move until your frame of mind has altered.
APH # 28: Announce Your Change Publicly
If you want to get your work done in a given time period, then one great way is to make
yourself accountable. Either you can have a motivation buddy or you can get this with the
people around you. All you need is to be vocal about you change and announce it publically.
You can use social media; can blog about it or simply write letters to your family and
friends. Here the purpose is to let more and more people know about your goals or task
that you are going to accomplish. You can do this every time when you need to make you
more accountable for getting things done.

APH # 29: Change Your Environment
No matter what your goal or task is, working in a wrong environment can make you
surrender to procrastination. So if you want to beat procrastination you need to change
your environment right now.
You should stay away from the TV, Electronics (mobile phones etc), friends and loud places,
this is only how you can focus on the task at hand. This means you need to practice
discipline by working in the right environment that suits you well.
APH # 30: Boost Your Creativity
One of the best ways to beat procrastination is to create things which get you into a
creative mood and makes you work.
Doesn’t matter what you do, you can do anything like Artwork, photos, videos, journaling,
coding etc. Here the idea is to do something on daily basis to spark your creativity. This
creativity mood will get you to work.
APH # 31: Use Pomodoro Technique
This technique involves working for the specific time period and then taking a short break.
For example, you work for 25 minutes and take a short break for 10 to 15 minutes. Then
again work for 25 minutes and so on.
This technique is known Pomodoro Technique and it can help you accomplish your
important tasks without procrastinating.

APH # 32: Experience Sense of Accomplishment
To beat procrastination, one great way is to enjoy the small victories. What this means is
instead of simply checking things off from your to-do list, you need to experience and enjoy
the sense of accomplishment. You can do this by carefully tracking your progress.
Sometimes checking off easy to do things on your to-do list increases your mental strength
to deal with the difficult tasks. But you shouldn’t do easy tasks just to take away from the
difficult ones; rather you need to include the tiny and easy to do things in your daily
checklist to build your confidence and momentum.
APH # 33: Spare 15 Minutes A Day
Sometimes you procrastinate when you see the big mess around you. So you don’t do
anything and prefer to procrastinate.
You can spare 15 each day to clean the things (physical cleaning, email, tiny tasks etc.) and
prevent a load of things from getting bigger.
