The Summer Developmental Program (SDP) is an eight week summer enrichment program designed to enhance the academic skills of students who do not meet all criteria for admission. Qualified students will take course work in one or more of the following deficient subject areas (as determined by MSU Admis-sions) plus a required learning skills laboratory:
Deficient Coursework Offered: Developmental English
Developmental Mathematics Developmental Reading
Required Course: Learning Skills Lab
Classroom instruction, seminars, career-counseling/mentoring and computer-assisted tutorials are included in the program. Addition-ally, the student will receive counseling and support necessary to matriculate successfully in the academic and social community of the University. These courses do not count toward graduation, but do qualify for institutional credit. Upon successful completion of the program, with a grade of “C” or higher in relevant course work including the learning skills lab, the stu-dent will be able to enroll as a freshman during the fall semester. Any student who does not meet the exit requirements of the program will be advised of other educational alternatives and will be assisted in pursuing those options.
Who can attend? Students who are referred by their high school counselors, MSU or other university admissions counselors (usually based upon ACCUPLACER scores) OR students who desire an enhancement program may attend.
