Surviving London during the school holidays
The British summer has finally arrived, the sun has been shining (sporadically, but shining none the less) the kids are home from school for a little more than a month and routine seems to have gone out of the window. The first week of the school holidays usually passes without incident or catastrophe, but it normally isn’t too long before a favourite toy gets broken, the drone of ‘I’m bored’ kicks in and parents start to get cabin fever. So, what should you do to shake things up a little? Consider taking a little city break to treat the children and break the boredom, London in particular is especially interesting for those travelling as a family since there are plenty of places of interest to visit that are free, or cost very little.
Understandably most families are on a budget when it comes to travelling, but that doesn’t mean that it should be any less exciting. If you are prepared to do a little homework before leaving home, you can often save a lot of money on things such as train tickets and accommodation charges. For instance, rather than immediately booking a family room in a hotel right in the centre of London, consider booking a hotel such as the Park Grand Paddington Court. This Paddington based hotel is just minutes away from the heart of the city, meaning that it is far enough away from the hustle and bustle for you and the kids to get a good night’s rest, yet suitably located for travelling to various tourist spots.

There’s even a statue of the adorable bear near Paddington station, so be sure to get your little loves to keep their eyes peeled to spot it. If the children just can’t bear to leave Paddington where he is, then for around £15 you can purchase a small replica Paddington bear to take home with you, it’s the perfect memento for children to remember their London trip by.
Many local attractions in London offer free admission, such as The Princess of Wales memorial park, which is the perfect location for a fun-filled family day out. There are plenty of picnic areas amongst the stunningly manicured gardens, a striking memorial fountain that sparkles in the sunlight and perhaps best of all, a Peter Pan themed children’s playground complete with sandpits, ropes to climb and Wigwams to hide in. It’s a wonderful way to let the children burn off some excess energy whilst you take some time out to reflect and recharge in beautiful surroundings. Who said London was grey and boring?
