The first-ever Tabernacle FallFestival will be a collaborative ef-fort of Tabernacle's Cub ScoutPack 439, the Tabernacle RescueSquad and the Education Founda-tion of Tabernacle to bring thecommunity together and reflecton the core reasons why peoplemoved here in the first place.
“We need to get that feelingback,” said Judy Sailer, the presi-dent of the education foundationand bear den leader for the CubScout pack who helps with therescue squad as well.
As a resident who is passionateabout the area, Sailer wants tobring back that sense of apprecia-
tion for everything Tabernaclehas to of fer.
“We have some great communi-ty organizations in our town, andwhen I’m out talking to peopleabout these groups, they don’tknow about them. They need tobe aware of these groups andtheir events that people might beinterested in,” Sailer said.
The only effective way to edu-
cate the town is to bring everyonetogether and allow these groupsto attend and raise awarenessabout themselves, Sailer said, soshe invited all local businesses tocome out on Oct. 4 to Seneca High
School and talk about themselves. Each year, the Cub Scouts have
their “touch a truck” event atwhich kids have the opportunityto get inside popular vehiclesfrom the fire department, policedepartment and EMS. Kids alsoget to learn about fire preventionand other emergency services.

Sailer thought it would be ben-eficial to do something much big-ger this year to get a largerturnout, so she got both founda-tions together and the Cub Scoutgroup and pitched the idea.
“Mount Laurel has Mount Lau-
rel Day, Maple Shade has MapleShade Day. Most towns do bigcommunity events,” she said.
Tabernacle Fall Festival will bea community-wide event that willinclude a 5k Charity Run for Edu-cation, the Scouts' touch a truckevent, as well as a car show, craftfair, food truck food court withlocal food trucks and a fun zonethat includes a dunk tank, sandart, rock climbing wall and more.
The 5k Charity Run for Educa-tion is an addition Sailer thought
would be appropriate to coordi-nate with “wellness week” that

here are laws in place to pro-
tect people’s privacy. For exam-
ple, it is not legal for someone
to walk onto your property and peer
into your ground-floor windows. It is
not legal for someone to place a ladder
against your house to climb and look
through your second-floor windows. Itis not legal for someone to walk on
your property and take photographs
or video.
However, the law becomes a little
unclear when you take the situations
above and replace the trespassing per-
son in question with a drone.
New Jersey, thankfully, is trying to
clear up any ambiguity.
State Sen. Richard Codey is propos-
ing legislation that would require
drones sold in New Jersey to be
equipped with technology that would
keep them from flying above 500 feet
and from restricted air space. Before commercial aviation and
other technology wer around, a prop-
erty owner was entitled to everything
on his or her land, including the soil
beneath and the air above. Naturally,
that changed over time, so as to not
prevent airplanes from flying over-
head.
Now, though, the availability and af-fordability of drones has brought into
question just what should and should
not be allowed.
We agree with Codey that we don’t
want someone flying a drone over our
house, or on our property, for that mat-
ter.
We like our privacy, and feel we are
entitled to it.
We also agree that, on a much larger
scale, drones can present safety is-
sues – as they did at the U.S. Open ten-nis tournament, a University of Ken-
tucky football game and sightings
around Newark Liberty Airport re-
cently.
And while we hope our legislators
pass regulations on drones within our
state, we hope the federal government
takes steps to pass federal bans and re-
strictions on drones, so people can’t
just go over the state line to purchase a
drone without the restrictive technolo-
gy and then fly it over our house with
no regard for our privacy or safety.
Drones should be restrictedN.J. law would be good, but federal government needs to step in, too

The Burlington County Health Depart-ment has started providing seasonal fluand pneumonia vaccines to county resi-dents. Clinics are currently scheduledthroughout the county through December.Residents who wish to register for clinicsin advance can do so by visiting the HealthDepartment’s websitepubhealth.co.burlington.nj.us/public/.Walk-ins are also welcome.
Those 65 years and older, children undertwo, and those with weakened immune sys-tems have a higher risk of experiencingcomplications from the flu, but an annual
seasonal flu shot is recommended for allresidents aged 6 months and older by theCenters for Disease Control and Preven-tion.
Seasonal flu is a contagious respiratoryillness caused by flu viruses. It spreads be-
tween people and can cause mild to severeillness. In some cases, the flu can lead todeath. In the United States, flu season oc-curs in the fall and winter.
Seasonal flu activity usually peaks inJanuary or February, but it can occur asearly as October and as late as May.
For the vaccine to provide full protec-tion against the flu, it takes about twoweeks after vaccination for antibodies todevelop in the body.
Getting vaccinated early in the fall helpsto reduce the chances residents may getsick before the vaccine is able to provide
full protection. It can sometimes be hard to tell the dif-
ference between a bad cold and the flu.Your primary care provider may be able totest you within the first few days of symp-toms to determine if you have the flu or
not. Symptoms of the flu include:· A 100ºF or higher fever or feeling fever-ish
· A cough and/or sore throat· A runny or stuffy nose· Headaches and/or body aches· Chills· Fatigue· Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea
(most common in children)For more information on the flu, please
contact the Burlington County Health De-partment at (609) 265-5533 or online atwww.co.burlington.nj.us/health. Addition-
al information can be accessed online atwww.cdc.gov/flu or www.flu.gov. TheBurlington County Health Department’sRaphael Meadow Health Center is locatedat 15 Pioneer Blvd. in Westampton, withinthe county complex.

Seneca High School juniorJulia Rankel was chosen among200 applicants to be a part of theMiss New Jersey Teen USA 2016Pageant, and she has made it tothe final round.
Rankel breaks the mold whenit comes to the stereotype of mod-
els having nothing but good looks. She is a well-rounded younglady with a multitude of otherhobbies, including cheerleadingfor the high school’s footballteam, singing and acting in anumber of different spotlights.
Rankel has made backgroundappearances on scenes from “Law& Order SVU,” “Manhattan LoveStory,” “The Americans” and“The Affair” this year, and a new
film due out this springstarring Jake Gyllen-haal and Naomi Watts.
Creativity is a termthat coincides withRankel a lot, and she hasa passion for perform-ing.
“In a story, you can bethat fairytale princessor astronaut you always
dreamed to be thanks tothe imaginative mindsof scriptwriters and directors. Ifell in love with the concept that Ican let my daydreams run wildand experience life from manydifferent angles. With acting, thepossibilities are endless, and noone tells you to stop dreaming,”Rankel said.
In her spare time, she has alsoconstructed a project called “Ted-
dies and Tiaras” afterwatching various docu-mentaries about pedi-atric cancer and otherchildhood illnesses.
Through Teddies andTiaras, Rankel plans tohelp establish lastingmemories for childrenin the hospital. Alongwith the help of her
friends and family, theyplan to dress as numer-ous iconic princes and princessesand entertain the children withsinging, dancing and variousgames.
“These kids are basicallybedridden and often see nothingbut scrubs and test tubes formonths at a time. Sometimesteens, myself included, can forgethow privileged we are to wake upevery day healthy and able to goto school, do sports or clubs, and
see our friends. There are kidswho don’t have these luxuries butmanage to smile and be trulythankful for every day they get towake up, see their families and
just live,” Rankel said. The program is still in the
early stages as Rankel is corre-sponding with local hospital ad-ministration to set a date forthese performances.
With all of this going on asonly a junior in high school,Rankel does not have a ton of freetime to plan where she will becontinuing her education in col-lege.
However, she maintains highaspirations for herself and knowsfirsthand how much hard workgoes into every show and everyphoto that is taken.
If she is not able to create a ca-reer out of her love for singing, acting or modeling, she plans topursue a path in clinical psychol-ogy with a special focus on pedi-
atrics.She enjoys helping folks realize
their potential and utilize theirstrengths for the benefit of them-

selves and those around them.“My message to children and
teens is to realize one moment orone situation cannot define you,and that it is possible to take awaya positive memory from a nega-tive situation,” Rankel said.
Being as diverse as she has
proven to be has done wonders forher in her pageantry career. While her looks have helped
her with the swimsuit andevening gown aspect of the com-petition, her knowledge and ma-turity have helped her excel inthe interview stages of the pag-eant.
Contestants are examined be-fore a panel of judges in which
they are asked various questions.
Judging criteria for the interviewcompetition is based on poise, confidence and how well eachcontestant can communicate herideas, as well as the substance of each answer.
Rankel’s success in pageantshas meant a great deal to her, andshe is thankful for every experi-ence she has acquired along theway.
Her modeling career has land-ed in her places she never dreamt
possible. In 2013, she was given the op-portunity to walk for more than20 international designers at NewYork Fashion Week.
“Pageants are a great way to bemade aware of various issuesthroughout your state and com-munity and get involved,” Rankelsaid. “Through pageants, girls areoffered terrific opportunities to
lend a hand to those who need it
most and touch the lives of othersin a positive way while inspiringothers to do the same.”
The Miss New Jersey TeenUSA 2016 pageant is the biggestpageant Rankel has been a partof, so it is no surprise she isthrilled to have been chosenamong the finalists.
“To me, becoming a finalistmeans I’m a step in the right di-rection,” Rankel said.
“We are so proud of her,” her
mother Patti said. The finalists will compete forthe title of Miss New Jersey TeenUSA 2016 Oct. 16-18 at the Hiltonin Parsippany.
The young woman chosen asthe Teen Miss New Jersey willspend her year as a teen ambassa-dor, making appearances and pro-moting her platform among otherduties while holding the title.

took place last week in theschools.
“The school is doing a lot forhealth and wellness, so we want-ed to follow that up with the addi-tion of the run to get the supportof the school as well,” Sailer said.
She thinks this will provide agreat opportunity for the count-less folks who run and exerciseevery day in Tabernacle to come
out and do just that as a commu-nity. There will likely be somecompetition among the runners,as many of them are looking toget timed and enter into largerruns. However, there will also bethe choice of a 1M run instead of the 5K for runners looking to runa shorter distance.
Invitations have also been sentto both the Seneca and Rancocas
Valley high school track teams.Folks will have the opportunity
to shop with the 50-plus vendorsthat will be in attendance, provid-
ing everything from handmadegoods to pre-made materials.
The food truck food court willalso be a new idea that will con-sist of seven vendors makingtheir latest and greatest recipes.
Children will have the opportu-nity to play in the Nerf BattleZone or get to touch the vehiclesthey typically don’t get to go nearsuch as a fire truck, a dump truckand even a helicopter from VirtuaHospital. The festival will also
support the idea of building thecommunity by evenly distribut-ing the proceeds and allowinglocal organizations to set up andcollect donations while spreadingthe word about their cause.
“This is all about building com-munity, not one non-profit doingbetter than the other. We need tobuild camaraderie in the commu-nity, and that’s not about one or-
ganization beating down another;that’s about all coming togetherand having fun raising awarenesswhile distributing the opportuni-
ties and money evenly,” Sailersaid.
All proceeds from the run willgo to the education foundation, while the business sponsorshipsare split among the foundationsand Cub Scouts.
