Today's Game Premier Division
Tayport v Forfar West End
A warm welcome to Forfar West End winning six, drawing two and losing committee, management, players and two of their ten games and that form supporters to the Canniepairt for their equates to championship winning first visit to Tayport for two years. progress.
The last few years have been one of the most traumatic periods in the Forfar club's history. After establishing themselves as a Super League club when finishing in a comfortable mid table position in 2010/11, West End bombed only four months later. The infrastructure at Strathmore Park all but collapsed and after four successive league defeats, scoring 1 goal and conceding 25, the club was forced to go into abeyance in September 2011.
A new start was made in August 2012 playing in the bottom tier and although they missed out on an immediate promotion by only 2 points, West End went up to the Premier Division as North League runners up in May 2014 and finished mid table in 2014/15.
Under the stewardship of player/ manager Daryl McKenzie, steady progress is being made and a return to the Super League is the target. Currently a third of the way through their programme, West End lie in third place in the Premier Division,
McKenzie will be disappointed at dropping two points to a very late equaliser at Armadale last week after Forfar had led 1-0 through Matthew Ramsay's goal on 45 mins. West End had a lot of possession and seemed to be controlling the game but missed three very good chances before Armadale snatched an equaliser in the 87th minute.
Even at thi s stage of the season, it's a crucial game in the battle for promotion and John Ovenstone will be hoping to pick up the points to close the gap between ourselves and West End. He should have Jamie Mackie and Tully available again after both missed last week's 3-1 win at Coupar Angus.
The first game between the sides was a 3-2 defeat for Tayport at Strathmore Park in August. Goals by Marc Ogg, who was later sent off, and an Ali Smith own goal were cancelled out by goals from Dann y Ross, Matthew Ramsay and Andy Walls to give West End the three points.

Manager's Memo
We welcome a return to league action as last week we were the only team to not play because
of the odd number after Falkirk folded . That was a bit frustrating, with us falling behind with
games but having said that we had a tough test against a young and enthusiastic Coupar
Angus team who made it difficult for us.
We changed some personnel with a few getting a rest on Saturday but everyone in the squad
can come in and play to level we expect, so we had no hesitation in doing that. The
performance wasn't the greatest but we did enough to get the win and progress to the next
round. That was our objective as we want to be competing and successful on as many fronts as
we can.
We will need to be on our game because Forfar are the only team we've tasted defeat against
this season when they beat us in the corresponding fixture earlier in the campaign. It was a
close game up at their place so we will be looking to reverse that outcome today. We've set a
good record at home so far and we want that to continue.
Sauchie and Kennoway are looking very strong at the top end of the league and aren't giving
much away . Although we haven't played either of them yet, games like today's at home are
where we need to take points to keep in touch and not lose any ground to the leaders.
We've trained well this week and there is a lot of competition for places. Since we were last at home we've added a new but old face in Drew Fleming. Visa problems stopped him staying in New Zealand so he 's back in Scotland and was back on board before last week's game . He will bring competition in the centre back area where we are quite short. We've also added our former goalkeeper Duncan Bruce this week until the end of year. Duncan has been training with us from the star t of the season whilst recovering from a serious Achilles injury. He now feels ready to step back into competitive action and we're delighted to have a' keeper of his calibre on board. He will be good competition for big Gav as both 'keepers won't settle for being a number 2 and that can only be good for the team.
I hope everyone enjoys their afternoon

It has been a month since Tayport's last home match; a narrow win against visiting Dalkeith Thistle, in a league encounter. 'Port made a good start to that match, opening the scoring after only seven minutes. Alan Tulleth delivered a wide free kick and Kieran Conway was on hand at the far post, to side-foot the ball into the roof of the net.
Thistle equalised before half-time though, when McLean raced away and drilled his shot into the far comer of the net. After the break, the Canniepairt men created a host of chances but it was not until the 75th
Tayport level , just after the break, with Jamie Mackie sending a pearler into the top comer of the net. Again , there were numerous chances for the visitors during the second half, but Amiston survived, thanks in particular to a couple of last gasp blocks, in injurytime . Last week , there was a break from Premier League action, as 'Port headed for Coupar Angus, in the inter-regional GA Engineering Cup. Dale Reid helped himself to a first-half brace, slotting home after a goalkeeping error and finishing well after neat play from Liam Ross .

The following Saturday, Tayport were idle, due to Falkirk Juniors folding, so the next match was away to Amiston Rangers, three weeks ago. That game ended 'Port's 5-match winning run, although John Ovenstone's men left Gorebridge with a point.
Amie took the lead on 14 minutes, after Craig Sturrock was penalised and Greig Callaghan scored from the spot. It was a set-piece that drew

The second half never really took off as a spectacle, but Tayport did finish in the ascendancy and added a third goal, courtesy of substitute Grant Mowatt, who headed in a Sergio Alvarez delivery.
Let's hope Tayport turn on the style this afternoon , but a tough encounter awaits, against F orfar West End.

In the 1 st round of the William Hill Scottish Cup the junior clubs did well with only Girvan going out, beaten 2-1 by Huntly. Bonnyrigg Rose beat TurriffUnited 4-1 after a 1-1 draw. Banks o' Dee won 1-0 at Keith, Linlithgow Rose had a 3-0 victory at Selkirk and Beith , in the competition as Scottish Junior Cup holders, beat Strathspey Thistle 6-0
Their second round ties are Banks o' Dee v Formartine United; BSC Glasgow v Beith ; Bonnyrigg Rose v Cove Rangers; Linlithgow Rose v Stirling Albion. As these ties take place on the same day as the 2nd round of the Junior Cup, their Junior Cup ties will take place a week later
Linlithgow Rose this week parted company with manager Davie MvGlynn. On resigning , McGlynn told the Edinburgh Evening News he left his post because "the expectation levels at this club were too high amid a 'poisonous' atmosphere ". He also said he felt a fractious committee was affecting his players on the pitch
With 'keeper Duncan Bruce now back at the Canniepairt, he's the only player on the books with a Scottish Junior Cup winners medal. Duncan, who had joined Tayport from Dundee United, was on the 'Port bench v Lochee United at Tannadice in 2005.
40 YEARS AGO - OCTOBER 1976
* The club had a debit balance of £95 as well as outstanding accounts totalling £162
* The club's Christmas Dance had been booked for January in the Pickletillum Inn. The band Abby Lane had been booked and tickets . limited to 58, were £3.50
* A Coffee Morning was planned for November . Ticket price was 15p. Because of the club 's perilous financial position the pla yers were to be asked to provide their support for the event.
* The club had received a grant of £700 from North East Fife District Council to assist with work required to lay out a football pitch on the Canniepairt. Sowing would take place next Spring .
* A stag night in conjunction with Madras FP Rugb y Club was being planned for the Ballinard Hotel, Broughty Ferry [such events- and there would be others held locally in Tayport-would be frowned upon nowadays!]
* The venue for a forthcoming club fund raising disco was switched from the Bell Rock to the Masonic Lodge
* The club's annual Darts & Dominoes competition was fixed for 28th December in the Ponderosa
* Andrew Robertson reported that the Henry Philip Memorial Trophy (HPMT) had been donated to the club in Henry's memory . Mr Robertson was asked to go back to the HPMT committee to request a change of rules to allow Tayport FC club members to participate as at present, participation was only open to residents of Tayport and some players were resident outwith the town
* There had been no word from Belgium re. a 1977 Spring visit to play in the Liege tournament. As a possible alternative, a trip to play somewhere in England was to be investigated.
