Year 12 arrangements If you have a son in Year 12 and you have not received a letter from me can you please extract it from his bag! To make sure it gets home I've also sent an email copy to parents. The letter contains important information about arrangements leading up to the HSC including an invitation to the graduation ceremony on 27 September. It would also be great if you could ask your son about his study timetable leading up to the HSC. I met with all the boys this week and have provided them with a template to structure their study. They also have a sample study plan that I developed with one of the boys who has agreed to share it. I told the boys that I expect every one of them to have a draft study timetable by Monday. Next week the Success Team will meet with every boy in Year 12 to help him work individually on a plan to ensure that he is successful in the upcoming exams. At these meetings the team will also look at every boy’s study timetable and help them refine it. This is a really important time in the HSC year and the boys should have their heads down working as hard as they can.

IN 30 SECONDS OR LESS
Students of 8 Tao played a game called ‘In 30 seconds or less’ where students from both teams were required to respond to questions by pressing a button. The teams earned a point if they answered the questions correctly. This game is great for reviewing mathematics vocabulary.

LOOKING BEYOND THE SURFACE
In between planning for their Student Research Project, Year 10 students are carrying out a quick experiment on the effect of surface area on dissolution.
Year 7 are improving their skills using a microscope, discovering the world of the very small.
The weekly lunchtime Science Club, run by Ms Prasad, was a neutralising experience
this week with students adding acids to bases to produce salts.

A new basketball season didn’t bring anything new. Our junior teams have the same aspirations as last year, that is, to challenge for a title in both divisions. Coach Tenefrancia, William Yonathan and Michael Myant have effectively utilised the four weeks of trials to mentally/ physically prepare both teams for the challenges ahead. The first off was the U15s team, who apart from the first five minutes, had a full control of the game. Jaden Bui imposed the authority under the both rings with his sheer power. He was accompanied by Simone Tuedrea whose sublime basketball skills were on full display. Saimone topped the scoresheet with 25 points, while Jaden added 8 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 turnovers. All other players also contributed to Ashfield’s first win of the season, Ashfield 37 Homebush 24. The second game was decided during the last minute of the game. Before that, only two points separated both teams the entire game. We struggled in attack, as our best attacking player, Tremaine Hinckson was unable to play. Billy- Sean Epiha was our best player on the court, defending tirelessly and attacking fearlessly. That approach has also led to some uncharacteristic mistakes. At the end, Homebush’s team prevailed as they better held their composure, Ashfield 24 Homebush 30.
NEW SEASON - THE SAME EXPECTATIONS

MUSIC TUITION AT ABHS:
We currently have some incredible music tutors at ABHS. They are all industry professionals, have studied at the highest level, and are very effective, passionate educators. They are Carl Morgan for guitar and bass, Ivan Jordan for drums and drum ensemble, Sean Valenzuela for piano, Nathan Parks for saxophone, flute, clarinet, Jacob Parks for trumpet and trombone, Emma and Kirrily for strings and string ensemble. They all have vacancies at the moment for new students. If your son has expressed an interest in playing a musical instrument or joining the drumming ensemble, the tutors are happy to provide a trial lesson to both meet students and explain what is involved. Please see Mr Pieterse in the CAPA staff room or email me at [email protected] if you are interested.
