The American Revolution The American Revolution took place in
18th century. There were 13 colonies established at the time in North America
These American colonies wished to break free from the British Empire due
to a series of unjust laws
and taxes
After successfully succeeding from
the British Empire they combined
and became the United States of
America
The era for the American revolution began in 1763 after the British successfully defeated the French in the French and Indian War
From there the British imposed a series of taxes to express its authority to the American colonies
Within the 12 years after the French and Indian War the British established such as the Sugar act, Stamp act, Currency act and Quartering act. All of which pushed the American colonists to gain distrust in the British Empire
To prevent serious disorder Britain sent 4,000 troops to Boston
Things quickly turned to the worst from that point on. The citizens of Boston became aggressive with the troops. A group even threw rocks at the troops which led to the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770. Five Bostonians were killed
After this incident many of the Townshend Acts were repealed except for the taxation on imported tea
On December 16, 1773 the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians, and boarded a cargo ship carrying tea. From there they dumped the tea supply into the harbor calling it “The Boston Tea Party”
The Revolution Begins By 1775 many towns and
colonies formed volunteer militias called “the minutemen”
On April 19, 1775 a British commander and his troops went to Concord to seize arms being held for the American militias. The minutemen arrived and opened fire which became the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The Americans were victorious after the British retreated
In 1775 a battle broke lose outside Boston which was called “The Battle of Bunker Hill”. The British came out victorious but suffered a loss of 1,000 troops. At this point the British Empire officially named the colonies to be in a state of rebellion
The signing of the Declaration of Independence took place on July 4, 1776. From that point on the colonies became free and that is where the United States of America was born
