    THE BLESSINGS AROUND US

Dear friends, do you know how many blessings there are all around us? The air we breathe, the water we drink, the fruits of various kinds, thebrightly colored owers, the delicious foods, our awlessly functioningbodies, and many other things, more numerous than we can ever count, are all blessings for us. In other words, each one is a gift specially createdfor us by God.

et us now have a look at some e!amples of the blessings that surroundus and learn how we must be grateful to God for bestowing theseblessings on us.

    THE FRUITS WE LOVE

"ow many di#erent kinds of fruit are there? The bananas, cherries, strawberries, watermelons, melons, and grapes we so love to eat$

They all emerge from the soil, but they all have completely di#erentcolors, smells, and tastes.

CHARACTER: Hey, these fruits are all packaged up!

This packaging, in other words their peel, stops them from rotting andkeeps them clean, fresh, and fragrant.

%ruits such as oranges and grapefruit, which are storehouses of &itamin ',come in segments so they are easy for us to eat. These fruits grow in thewinter, (ust when we need &itamin ' to keep us healthy.

CHARACTER (eating fruit noisily): This is really delicious!

In the summer, we need to drink a lot of water. It is, then, that fruits full of water such as watermelons, melons, peaches, and grapes appear. )emeet our water needs by eating a lot of these fruits.

These details are all proofs that God has created fruits especially for us.

"ad God so wished, there would have been only one kind of food on *arth.+ut "e has created a wide variety of things to eat and drink so that wemight give thanks to "im.

CHARACTER (eating fruit noisily): And they all taste completely dierent

This shows (ust how much God loves us. In our sacred scripture, the oble-uran, God describes these blessings as /good and wholesome things01

CHARACTER: All these fruits "ere once #ust seeds, like tiny piecesof "ood$

These tiny pieces began using water and the minerals in the earth, andgrew to become very large.

2nd, as we can see, they turned into plants.

+ut how do you think that the wide range of plants we know emerged fromsuch tiny bodies?

    CHARACTER: Ha%e you ne%er "ondered& Right, let's ha%e a think,then

2ll the colors, patterns, and scents in the plants we are now looking at,how long they are, the number and shape of leaves they have, whether ornot they bear fruit and all their other features are hidden inside the seed.

In other words, every seed is a perfect data bank.

%or e!ample, the color, number of leaves, softness, and perfume of therose are all pieces of data.

It is such data that causes grapes to emerge in the form of sweet, water34lled sacs, from the dry, stick3like stems of the vine. It is similar data, inside the seed, that makes grape peels di#erent to ha5elnut shells whichgive them their di#erent colors, tastes, and scents, as well as the vitaminsthey contain, and makes one (uicy and the other dry.

"uman beings use computers to store information. 6et, compared to a tinyseed, even a computer is very simple. That is because the seed containshundreds of thousands of pages worth of information7 in addition, it is ahighly comple! system that scientists have not yet fully understood andhave so far been unable to copy.

This is because it is God )ho created the seed, and God )ho created thesystems within it.

*very seed is enfolded by the knowledge of God. It grows under "isinspiration and thus, turns into a plant.

God reveals this in another verse from the -uran1

    OUR FLAWLESSL6 FUN1TIONING BODIES

8ur eyebrows and eyelashes only grow to a certain length. "owever, ourhair grows throughout the course of our lives, and that enables us to styleit as we wish.

CHARACTER: Aaah! don't ha%e any hair$ (laughing slyly)

)hat would happen if our eyelashes grew in the same way as our hair? Inthat case, our eyelashes would grow right over our eyes and stop us fromseeing anything. )ho tells our eyelashes to stop growing once they havereached a speci4c length? )hen we think about such 9uestions, we canimmediately see that every part of our body has been created.

There is also complete harmony in the way that our bones grow.

8ur brains begin growing right from infancy. 8ur skulls also start growing,at the same time. If our skulls and brains grew at di#erent rates, and ourskulls were small, while our brains were large, then we could not live. +ut,

no such thing actually happens. 8ur skulls grow, until we reach a certainage, together with our brains, and protect our brains.

%ine. +ut why is it that our bones, which develop in proportion to our ages, stop growing once they reach a particular si5e? )hat would happen if theykept growing?

%or e!ample, if the bones that make up our rib cages did not stop growingonce they had attained a certain si5e, then our bodies would be much lessaesthetic than they actually are.

6et, thanks to the careful working of our bone cells, no such thing ever

    happens.

CHARACTER: sn't that amaing& "as amaed, too, "hen *rst heard a+out it!

'an a bone cell possess enough information to be able to do all thesethings?

"ow does it know when and where to grow or stop growing?

"ow is it that, although all the bones in our bodies consist of the samebone cells, some are very e!ible while others are 9uite rigid?

"ow do di#erent bones know that they have to make up our hands?

"ow is it that the bones that comprise our arms, legs, and 4ngers grow tothe same si5e on both sides of our bodies?

These are all 9uestions we need to ask ourselves in order to betterunderstand the perfection in our bodies.

It is absolutely impossible to claim that all these things happened bychance. The cells, of which we are made, cannot take such decisionsthemselves. These things are all part of the artistry of God, )ho created

us in the 4nest way. In one verse of the -uran "e tells us1

meters. Ceals, bears, and other polar animals are thus able to make holesin the ice and reach the open sea.

CHARACTER: .hat "ould happen if this "as not the case and icesank to the +ottom&

In that case, the oceans, the seas, and the lakes would begin free5ing fromthe bottom up. Cince there would be no layer of ice to keep out the coldfrom above, free5ing would continue upwards. :any of the lakes, seas, and oceans on *arth would, therefore, turn into solid blocks of ice.

2ll that would be left would be a layer of water (ust a few meters thick onthe surface. 2nd, even if air temperatures rose, the ice at the bottomwould never melt. othing could, therefore, live in the *arths seas. Theabsence of life, in the seas, would a#ect the balances in the world, and lifeon land would also be impossible.

CHARACTER: f "ater +eha%ed like other li/uids, the Earth "ould +e a dead planet! 0ut, thankfully, it doesn't$

The fact is that, thanks to Gods might and awless creation, our *arth is aplanet 4lled with life.

8ther properties of water also play an important role in the *arth having amoderate and balanced climate.

Thanks to the molecular properties of water, the seas heat up and cooldown much slower than the land. This means that, on land, there can be atemperature di#erence of up to A>< degrees between the hottest places

and the coldest, while the temperature di#erence in the sea ranges atmost from A@ to B< degrees 'elsius.

The same thing applies to the temperature di#erence between day andnight. The di#erence between day and night can be as high as B< to <degrees in dry climates, while it is no more than a few degrees in the sea.

Thanks to the thermal characteristics of water, the di#erence intemperature between winter and summer, or day and night, remainswithin limits that all life forms can tolerate.

If the proportion of the *arth that is covered in water compared to that

covered in land were less, then the temperature di#erence between nightand day would increase enormously7 much of the land would turn intodesert, and life would become impossible.

)ater is obviously very important for life.

In the -uran, God reveals that "e has given us water as a blessing1

    LET US REFLE1T ON1E ;ORE

The blessings we have seen in this 4lm are (ust a very few of all those Godhas given us. *verything we can think of and bene4t from is a blessingcreated for us by God. :eans of transport is an e!ample. )e can gowherever we want by getting into a car or bus.

8ur clothes protect us against the heat in summer and against the cold inwinter.

There is no end to the list of blessings God bestows on us. Indeed, Godtells us in the -uran that this list is endless1
