College Head Start
What is College Head Start?
o It is a nine-day college camp that aims at preparing high school students to get a head start on their successful college admission in the US.
o The camp will be held from August 9 through August 17, 2013
o The program also aims at laying the foundation for college success by teaching the fundamental skills crucial to high achievement in college.
Program OverviewThe college camp package will feature the following programs:
o Lecture series and workshops at the Harvard campus
o Campus tours and admission information sessions led by admissions representatives from the most prestigious colleges in the US
o Panel and Q&A with student ambassadors from Harvard and MIT
o Tours of Massachusetts' historical sites
o Optional road trip to the top colleges in the Northeast of the US from August 17 through August 24, 2013
o The entire package will include food and housing. (First week: Fisher College/ second week: hotels)
Lecture Series at Harvard
o Strategies for College Success (Introduction curricula, syllabi, and success strategies from top colleges)
o Communication skills (Cross-cultural communication and public speaking)
o Effective Study Skills for College Success (TOEFL and SAT)
o Effective College Essay Writing
o Career & Aptitude Orientation
o The camp will feature campus tours and information sessions in Massachusetts colleges that feature different programs and student population
o The information sessions will be held by admission representatives from Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Tufts University, Boston College, Northeastern University, and Wentworth College.
Campus Tours
Panel with Student Ambassadors from Harvard and MIT
Students will participate in a student panel/ Q&A session
with Harvard and MIT students ambassadors to learn about
the college experience from students' perspectives
The student ambassadors will later on serve as peer-mentor
for our participating students, as they will be working on
their college admission applications
Students will visit Boston's most famous historical sites and museums: The Freedom Trail; the Museum of
Science; the Boston Common Swan Boat, the Prudential Skywalk, and more.
