2 THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB Birthday Guide - Summer 2014
HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY TO THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB!
Last Fall, we celebrated THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB’s 1st
Birthday! We had an exciting first year at THE CREATIVE KIDS
CLUB! We met many wonderful families and made great friends.
Throughout the year, we welcomed special guests from
musicians to story-tellers to artists to 6-legged critters and
slithering snakes. All of our guests entertained and educated our
CREATIVE KIDS. To say THANK YOU and to celebrate our 1st
birthday, we set out to provide the community with a helpful
resource for planning kids’ birthday parties by showcasing these
entertainers and businesses in the Hunterdon County area who
specialize in children’s birthdays in a Birthday Celebration Guide.
For those who are new to THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB, OUR
MISSION is to stimulate the imagination and curiosity of young
children through PLAY in a nurturing and empowering
environment in order to build skills and confidence for life. We
offer weekly PLAY TIMES for children to explore together with a parent as well as special family events throughout the year. In
addition to our Birthday Guide, we have lots of useful online resources for families including a blog full of fun activities that you and
your CREATIVE KIDS can do at home as well as a Community page full of fun family events and summer camps in our area.
Our 27-Page Birthday Celebration Guide has a lot of great information for celebrating a child’s birthday. Here are some highlights

8. Look for coupons and deals on food items and double
check promotions. If you are having your party at a party
place be sure to check their website for any last minute
specials or offers they may have. One writer saved $200 on
a party once by changing the time from 2pm to 12pm at a
party venue. Shoprite also gives you a small cake FREE,
for your child's first birthday.
9. Put on your chef hat and DIY! Make your own food,
appetizer style or have the kids make their own muffin
pizzas. Make your own cake or order a small cake to match
your theme and then serve cupcakes. Plan the party for in
between meal times, so sticking with just cake will be ok.
10. Keep it simple and your expectations in check. For my
son's 3rd birthday, we held a pirate play date at our house.
I created cardboard hats and swords for all of the kids and
a giant cardboard pirate ship and I envisioned the kids
playing and pretending pirates to their hearts content. The
problem was- no one wanted to play pirates that day. The
ship sat untouched. In my mind, the day was a bust, but the
set up was low cost and the kids had a blast playing with
toys instead. It isn't about what you want the kids to do at
the party, it just matters that they have a good time.
Party Planning
1. Know your budget ahead of time to help guide your
planning. Your budget will guide everything from your
location to the number of guests you invite to the type of
food. Knowing this ahead of time will help you map out a
plan of attack and prioritize the areas you feel are most
important for a memorable day. A budget will also help you
stay organized. One of our writers uses an outline that
shows who she invited, what food she will need and how
many party favors. This way she doesn't purchase more
then needed.
2. Pick a universal theme that all ages will love. Here are a
few ideas to get you started.
- Pirates & Princesses
- Star Wars
- Boot Camp
- Rock Star
- Dress Up
3. Buy in Bulk! Buy supplies and decorations like balloons
and paper goods in bulk at your local warehouse store like
Costco, BJ's or Sam's Club. Steer clear of Party City and
other stores with a big markup on small packs of themed
paper goods. If you buy plates in primary colors you can
still match them to your theme and then save the leftovers
for future parties. Also, consider juice boxes and eliminate
the need to buy paper cups. They can also be frozen so
they are cold on party day and won't be wasted if
unopened.
4. Buy Balloons and Fill them on Party Day- I always buy
large bags of helium quality balloons and then have a few
of them filled on the day of the party at my local Shoprite
floral department. They also fill them at the Dollar Store.
Buying a helium tank will run about $1 per balloon and
when you buy them at the place that fills them, they will
cost more per balloon than if you buy a big bag.
5. Keep the favors simple, or just skip them. We know in
some circles this may be a controversial tip. But, a lot of
Moms I know are not fans. Like favors at weddings, they
are one detail that planners put a lot of time and money into
but often get left behind, discarded, or simply forgotten.
We've seen kids sent home with cupcakes and aprons they
decorated at the party, helium balloons that doubled as
decorations, or cookies in a cute bag.
6. Get Crafty! Make your own decorations and party
games. Use AC Moore coupons for supplies or even
consider crafting as part of the entertainment. Have your
kids help make the invitations and thank you notes.
7. Host the party in your back yard or at a local
playground. Check the websites of local parks to see if
there are any requirements to reserve a pavilion. Many
places have a low cost, sometimes even free, to town
residents.

The Holiday
Decorations may
be packed away,
but your favorite
Holiday visitor
may be stopping
by sooner than
you think!
Now your favorite scout elf can visit for your family’s
birthdays! “The Elf on the Shelf®: A Birthday Tradition”,
the second book in the series, tells the story of how
Santa’s helpers celebrate birthdays at the North Pole. The
kit includes special instructions on how to invite your elf for
a birthday visit as well as a festive birthday cupcake outfit
for your elf to wear for your special day!
For the big day, you can even decorate with the DIY Elf
Party Collection, which includes everything from invitations
to cupcake wraps to party hats. Detailed instructions and
print outs can be found online: http://bit.ly/1bcz1EO
“The Elf on the Shelf®: A Birthday Tradition” is now
available at retailers such as Toys R Us and Bed Bath and
Beyond for about $20. It can also be found in Clinton at
Toys on Main. $1 from the sale of each copy of the book
will be donated to charity: water in their work to end the
global water crisis.
Musical 1st Birthdays A baby’s 1st year is filled with so many special moments and
milestones which makes a baby’s 1st birthday extra special.
Though the birthday boy or girl may not remember the actual
event, many parents celebrate with a party. Music is a
popular entertainment choice for 1st birthday parties. Music is
fun and is great for bonding between parent and child. Also,
music encourages movement which is beneficial for young
children developing their motor skills. “1 year olds are still
learning their bodies and responses,” says Beth Stone, a Kids’
MusicRound teacher in Central New Jersey. “The responses I
see at parties are truly original and heart-warming!” In
addition to teaching family style music classes, Beth also
offers musical birthday parties at your location. All party
classes are designed specifically for the party child with their
favorite songs, instruments, and dances.
I planned a musical 1st birthday party for each of my children’s
1st birthdays. For my twins’ party, one of the teachers from
the music class we were taking at the time led a music class
for our guests. For my oldest son’s first birthday, Monkey
Monkey Music performed a lively, high energy show for us. In
addition to performing at birthday parties and community
events, Monkey Monkey Music can also be seen on PBS!
Their award-winning music videos air in the U.S. on over 100
PBS stations and internationally in over 175 countries on the
American Forces Network.
Another band that is popular at parties in New Jersey is The
Little Rockers Band. In fact, The Little Rockers Band was
featured in Time Out New York Kids as one of the best party
entertainers in New York City! The Little Rockers Band plays
cool Indie Rock music for kids. That's KINDIE ROCK! It's a
growing genre of music by artists and musicians who have a
passion for creating thoughtful, educational and above all, fun
music for today’s families. The band performs family rock
concerts, birthday parties, music classes and school
assemblies.
mr. RAY, who was a big hit at several of THE CREATIVE KID
CLUB events this year, is also a popular performer at 1st
birthday parties. mr. RAY, a kindie singer/songwriter known
for his eye-catching, colorfully stickered guitar, is a favorite of
both kids and adults! A New Jersey native, mr. RAY has also
performed with other well-known NJ artists such as Bruce
Springsteen and Bon Jovi. Audience members love to clap
and sing along while they learn about the colors of the
rainbow or imagine they've got a friend named "Kalien, the
Alien“!

Celebrating our 1st Birthday On September 21st, we celebrated THE CREATIVE KIDS
CLUB’s 1st Birthday with a Birthday Bash at the Youth Center
in Glen Gardner. We welcomed many of our CREATIVE
FAMILIES as well as new friends to our Celebration.
Party-goers designed their own party
hats and played with our fun fitness
equipment. They made bottle critters
and met BG the Turtle at the Roving
Nature Center’s table. They made
yarn art with Art Journey Studio and
had their face painted with Jamie
FancyFull Faces. Jersey Family Fun
played a fun “Where in NJ Photo
Game”. Guests also shopped the
unique gifts that were on display from
Occasions and Thirty-One. A portion
of the proceeds from the gift sales as
well as the raffle tickets were donated
to the Hunterdon Medical Center for
the Thrift Shop Project. To conclude,
mr. RAY performed an energetic
show that got everyone dancing!
Thanks to all who participated in our Bash, and thank you to
all who donated items for our raffle: Jersey Family Fun,

Cake Smashes are a SMASH! A fun way to celebrate a baby’s 1st birthday is with a cake
smash. Cake smash photography sessions are a growing trend
that started a few years back. The cake smash is usually done
around the child’s first birthday to mark the special milestone.
In many cases, a baby’s first birthday is also the first time the
child has eaten cake so it fun to see what he or she will do with
it - whether it’s painting themselves with the icing or knocking
the whole thing over and crawling through it.
For local family photographer, Hilary Murphy, “The one year
marks the end of a chapter as your baby moves away from
being a baby and into their own person. It is also the beginning
of another amazing chapter that is part of the journey you and
your child are on. The moms are so proud and there's so much
laughter that happens at a cake smash between the parents
and me and the baby and maybe a sibling. It's a really, really
special thing to be a part of.” Hilary offers cake smashes at her
home studio or in the front garden of her farm. The sessions
take approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Hilary works with the
family to create the set up of the session, which is usually the
theme of the first birthday party. Hilary provides the props and
the cake, and she works closely with a baker that can adjust
recipe for any allergies. The Pirate Cupcake based in Milford
and Sweets N Stuff based in Bridgewater are two bakeries that
Hilary typically works with for cake smashes.

"Your child's first birthday is an unforgettable milestone. The
pictures should be just as memorable." Stefanie Politi is a
newborn photographer who also offers cake smash sessions
that are available either combined with traditional portraiture
or in a mini version that focuses on just cake smashing fun.
Stefanie will work with you to coordinate all the styling and
color theme ideas. For the cake, she recommends
supporting your local bake shop and can help with decorating
ideas to compliment your session details.

Four Fun Gift Ideas for a 1st Birthday Your CREATIVE KID’s first 12 months has been a time of
incredible growth and development. In the coming months, he
or she will continue to reach many more developmental
milestones including crawling, cruising, walking and talking.
Consider these four 1st birthday gift ideas to help your little one
reach these milestones:
1. Rody! For a 1st birthday gift,
Mara from Sunbeam Toys in
Frenchtown recommends Rody
by Gymnic, a popular gift to help
your 1 year old reach these
developmental milestones. Rody
is an inflatable horse that
helps in developing balance, movement skills and coordination
while improving your child’s trunk, legs and arms muscles. It is
made from soft, super strong, latex-free and phthalate-free
vinyl, and comes in 13 colors!. Mara states, “One year olds love
Rody! The Gymnic Rody Horse is a fun, soft riding toy
that helps improve balance and coordination while providing
your toddler with lots of bouncing fun!”
2. Barefoot Books: For 1 year-olds,
language usually progresses from
grunting and pointing to speaking
single words and experimenting
with simple word combinations.
During this year, a 1 year-olds
vocabulary will exponentially
increase by absorbing the
language around them.
For this reason, reading out loud to your CREATIVE KID each
day is so important. For a 1st Birthday gift, Debi from Barefoot
Books recommends “I Took the Moon for a Walk” by Carolyn
Curtis and Alison Jay. Included in the "100 Greatest Books for
Kids List” by Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine), this dreamy
night time jaunt with a young boy and the moon will grow with
your child and help children cope with a fear of the dark.

3. Discovery Toys: Discovery Toys are highly engaging
learning toys that help parents to teach learning skills
through play as well as ignite the imagination and interest of
children as they learn and grow through play. Discovery
Toys offers several 1st Birthday Gift Sets which include a
variety of learning toys geared towards 1 year olds. For
example, the Platinum Gift Set includes Measure Up! Cups,
Small Parts Cylinder, Story Stacker, Go Go Caterpillar,
Sounds Like Learning!, and Color Wheels!
4. Gift Card for Parent / Child Classes: There are many
benefits to taking a Parent and Child Class. Besides being
a great opportunity for bonding which provides a sense of
security and fosters a positive self esteem, Parent and Child
Classes also can help develop cognitive, social, and gross
motor skills. There are a variety of Parent / Child programs
available for 1 year olds which offer gift cards. When my
CREATIVE KIDS were 1, we enjoyed the Parent / Child
programs available at Kids MusicRound in Branchburg as
well as JW Tumbles in Clinton. THE CREATIVE KIDS
CLUB also offers gift cards for PLAY TIME. PLAY TIME is
an open PLAY period for Parent and Child which includes
several Circle Time activities that blend imagination, sports,
and games with exciting music to build healthy skills and
confidence. The remainder of the time parents and children
are free to have fun, explore the toys and equipment, and
enjoy the exciting music. This is a perfect time for kids to
make new friends and moms too!

THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB ON THE
GO!
Over the past several months, I have been fortunate that I
have been able to get to know many local businesses in
and around Hunterdon County as I do my research for our
Birthday Guide. In addition to offering memorable
birthday parties, these businesses provide a fun and
creative learning environment for kids through their
programs and special events. That is why we launched a
new program this past Spring called THE CREATIVE
KIDS CLUB ON THE GO! We have already visited 5
businesses in Hunterdon County for fun and educational
program, and we have many more planned this Summer!
In March, THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB visited Art Attack,
the area’s largest Paint Your Own Pottery and Glass
Fusing Studio, for a LEGO Mania Party. During our visit,
we completed the LEGO Mania dinner-plate project. The
kids had a choice of three characters from The LEGO
Movie – Emmet, Benny or Wyldstyle. After choosing their
favorite, they painted their character of choice on the
plates.
In April, we visited Hair Flair for a Princess Pamper Party.
Hair Flair is a full-service salon with kid-friendly cutting
stations. Our Princesses and Princes were treated to four
different pampering stations including hair styling, make-
up & face-painting, nails, and a crown designing craft.
Once all of the princesses and princes were pampered,
we concluded the event with story time. We all enjoyed
Barefoot Book’s “The Real Princess: A Mathematical
Tale”.
We have two ON THE GO! Events in May. Our first stop
was The Roving Nature Center at The Whittemore Wildlife
Sanctuary in Oldwick, which provides a variety of Nature
Programs for Groups as well as Nature Programs for
birthday parties. At our ON THE GO! program, we spent

a beautiful Spring afternoon participating in an A to Z Nature
Scavenger Hunt at the Nature Center! We found different
things in Nature that start with each letter of the alphabet –
from Ants to Zebra! Ok, we didn’t actually find a real Zebra on
our Scavenger Hunt, but one of our CREATIVE KIDS was
wearing a shirt with a Zebra on it!
After Memorial Day, we kicked off Summer with an Ice Cream
Party at Thee Ice Cream Parlor in Flemington. Thee Ice
Cream Parlor has a large party room for sundae making and
party games. Our CREATIVE KIDS enjoyed hula-hooping,
eating pizza, playing high-energy party games, designing their
own soda jerk hats, making and eating their own ice-cream
sundaes, and dancing! It was a fun-filled start to our Summer!

Parties ON THE GO!
Earlier this month, we also visited JW Tumbles in Clinton for action-
packed fun! JW Tumbles is a fun, indoor learning playground. JW
Tumbles offers birthday parties in addition to its award-winning
programs which are geared to build social and development skills in
a confident and comfortable environment. During our ON THE GO!
event, our CREATIVE KIDS climbed, ran, swung, bounced, crawled,
jumped, balanced, and pretended to surf.
Things will start to heat up this Summer with our next ON THE GO!
Event: Open House at Food Fix Kitchen in Clinton Township on
Friday, June 20th from 11:30am – 1:30pm. Food Fix Kitchen is a
cooking school that runs a regular schedule of adult and children's
group classes. Chef Rachel Reuben, a Food Network Chopped
Champion, offers cooking classes, summer camps, birthday
parties and other culinary-centered events in her very cool culinary
studio. At our ON THE GO! event, the kids will make their own "dog
in a dog“, an organic turkey hot dog wrapped in dough and made to
look like a sleeping dog) and "torch and toast" a smore cupcake's
marshmallow topping.
One of my favorite Summer pastimes is baseball! We will be
headed to see a Somerset Patriots baseball game on Sunday,
June 22nd at 1:05pm. Not only will we see a great baseball game,
but there are many fun family activities at the game such as a
giveaway, autograph session, and Kids Run the Bases.

7 COOL Outdoor Party Ideas for this
HOT Summer! Keep COOL this HOT summer with an Outdoor party at
one of these 7 places:
1. Baseball Game. Going to a baseball game was one of my
favorite Summer pastimes as a child. We are fortunate
that the Somerset Patriots are just a short drive away. Not
only is it a great baseball game, but it is a fun experience
for the whole family with many different activities planned
throughout the summer – including fireworks, giveaways,
kids run the bases, autograph sessions. They even offer 3
birthday packages to celebrate your little slugger‘s special
day which include a crowd rendition of “Happy Birthday”,
name on the scoreboard, Birthday T-Shirt, and Autograph
baseball.
2. Parks and Playgrounds. We have many wonderful parks
in Hunterdon County with playgrounds, covered picnic
areas, and plenty of space to run and play. Consider parks
like Finn Road Park in Union Township or Deer Path Park
in Flemington for your Summer birthday celebration.
3. Amusement Parks. There are many fun amusement
parks just a short drive away from Hunterdon County,
Some of these parks have dry amusements, some have
wet ones, and some have both. Many of these parks also
offer birthday or group packages. Land of Make Believe in
Hope, NJ; Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA; and Dorney
Park in Allentown, PA. all have wet and dry amusements
as well as offer birthday or group packages. Sahara Sam’s
in West Berlin is an indoor and outdoor Waterpark that also
has birthday packages. This Summer, the owners of
Sahara Sam’s just opened up a brand-new amusement

The Circus is in Town! The Circus Salon, that is! La Bella Salon by Regina in
Lebanon has a colorfully decorated salon just for kids. The
salon is filled with stuffed circus animals, books and toys,
which is perfect for kids of all ages. After their haircuts, my
kids love to spin the wheel and win a prize!
The Circus Salon even offers pampering birthday parties.
Three different party options are available: Mani with Nail
Art, Mani / Pedi, and Mani / Pedi plus Up-Dos. Balloons,
games, and prizes can also be added to each party. Be
sure to mention THE CREATIVE KID CLUB when you make
your appointment or book you party! Experience the Crayola Magic!
Just a short drive away in Easton, PA, is the ALL NEW Crayola
Experience. The old Crayola Factory closed Fall 2012 to make
renovations. Re-opened in May 2013, Crayola Experience now
features 21 hands-on attractions! Many of the old exhibits
remain but have been moved or improved. The backlit doodle
boards can now be found in the ‘Doodle in the Dark’ room,
which also houses an interactive floor that responds to your
motions as well as a special screen with crayon pals that
mirror your every move. Tokens are still given that can be used
for crayons, markers, and modeling clay, but now you can also
personalize your own crayon wrapper at “Wrap It Up” or
customize the color of your marker. The biggest change is the
departure of the National Canal Museum. Water Works
remain but has been Crayola-ized with crayon boats and a
colorfully playful mural on the wall. Also, in place of the
museum’s exhibits is a two-story Crayola Playground where
kids will work off some of their energy when they “wiggle up
the melted wax tower” and slide down the crayon box.
Last summer, we just celebrated our twins’ 3rd birthday with a
party at the Crayola Experience, and the kids all had a blast!
We spent an hour in the party room, and we had an unlimited
amount of time to explore the exhibits.
Be sure to discover the magic of color! Go early, especially on
the weekend if you have young kids. It does get crowded in
the afternoon.

available for children’s birthday parties. There is plenty of
space for children to stay warm by running around and playing
games planned by The Youth Center’s trained birthday staff. In
fact, in September, we celebrated THE CREATIVE KIDS
CLUB’s 1st birthday at the Youth Center in Glen Gardner.
There was plenty of room for our Arts and Crafts projects,
fitness fun activities and concert with mr. RAY!

5 Gift Giving Ideas Buying birthday presents can sometimes be a challenge. Here
are 5 suggestions to help make the process a little simpler:
1. Shop Local When Possible. In my college days, I worked at
the local toy store in my college town. I loved all the unique
and educational toys as well as the craft and science projects
that were available. We are fortunate to have 2 great local toy
stores in Hunterdon County – Sunbeam Toys in Frenchtown
and Toy Kingdom in Flemington!
2. Personalize & Customize. Every child loves to see their
name – whether it is on a picture they drew or on their
lunchbox. My kids loved their personalized Thirty-One lunch
totes they received for their birthdays last year. They took
them to school everyday and to outings at the local
playground.
Occasions Studio in Flemington is a unique gift boutique
featuring gifts for babies to grandmas and everyone in
between. MOMS: They have wonderful, affordable
customized birthday gifts for kids of all age, They also offer
personalized items including hand-painted furniture,
monogrammed stationary, blankets, sweaters, feeding sets
and more. Home of the famous personalized piggy bank!
3. A World of Adventure.
Barefoot Books celebrate art
and story that opens the hearts
and minds of children from all
walks of life, focusing on
themes that encourage
independence of spirit,
enthusiasm for learning and
respect for the world's diversity.
Open a Barefoot Book and you
will step into a world of vibrant
art and story from around the
world.
4. Give the Gift of Discovery.
The monthly box subscriptions
are very popular right now, and
I can understand why. Who
doesn’t love to get presents in
the mail! CREATIVE KIDS will
love their Kiwi Crates. Each
Kiwi Crate includes all the
materials and inspiration for 2-3
hands-on projects including art,
science, games, and more! With
a new theme each month, from
colors to dinosaurs to gardening to space, each box is
designed to encourage discovery, exploration and expression.
3. Gift of PLAY. There are a lot of great programs for kids in
Hunterdon County, but they can get expensive especially if
you have multiple kids. Many programs offer gift cards, which
can be the perfect gift especially if your house is already full of
toys! THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB offers gift cards for our fun
fitness program, LET’S PLAY TODAY®, as well as our PLAY
TIMES and CRAFT TIMES.

PARTY TIME: Barefoot Parties Our CREATIVE KIDS love Barefoot Books and the different
places their stories take us. Barefoot Books’ mission is to
“celebrate art and story that opens the hearts and minds of
children from all walks of life, focusing on themes that
encourage independence of spirit, enthusiasm for learning and
respect for the world’s diversity”. Their core values are
Imagine, Explore, Create, Connect and Give Back. These are
all values we aspire to at THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB as well,
and we have been delighted to welcome Miss Deb from Kids
Love Barefoot Books to several of our PLAY TIMES.
Recently, Kids Love Barefoot Books announced the launch of
their new party themes! For children, they have the “World
Animals Party,” where kids will learn the Animal Boogie, the
dance that is captivating millions of kids around the world! The
whole family will get to know the animals of the Indian Jungle,
enjoy music and movement, and create unique crafts.
At Miss Deb’s last visit to THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB, we
tried out the “World Animals Party”. Our CREATIVE KIDS
loved learning the different ways each of the animals
danced. When the story was over, the kids made colorful
animal masks, then we pretended we were the different
animals dancing in the jungle too! Personally, I really enjoyed
Kids Love Barefoot Books’ new party concept. It inspired our
CREATIVE KIDS to use their imagination, to be creative,
and to be active.
Kids Love Barefoot Books also offers an adult party
called “Open Hearts & Minds Party,” where adults gather for a
night of food, fun, and conversation. Parents will talk about
ways to cultivate compassion in their children and expose them
to diversity. With both these parties, you will have a chance to
learn about storytelling and get personalized suggestions for
books and products that are the best for your kids.
This April, we enjoyed a night out with other CREATIVE MOMS
at Miss Janet’s Sunshine Schoolhouse in Annandale as we
made flowers for our hair, took selfies, listened to “The Boy
who Grew Flowers” and discussed ways to foster compassion
in our children.

CRAFT TIME: Party Blowers Party blowers are festive toys to make at any party and can be
customized for any party theme. Materials needed for this craft
include copy paper, cardstock paper, tape, glue and rubber
band. You can decorate using stickers, foil, ribbons, markers,
etc. Just a few simple steps:
1. To make the paper tongue, cut paper lengthwise in
thirds. Fold lengthwise twice and glue down the
middle. When glue is dry, curl the paper up around a pencil or
straw and secure with rubber band for several hours. (You
may want to do this first step before the party so they are all
ready to go).
2. Cut a piece of cardstock widthwise in thirds. Roll the
cardstock to make a tube. Glue cardstock as you go to
secure. Set aside for a minute to dry.
3. Remove rubber band from white paper tongue roll. Unroll it
slightly. Open up the one end of the tongue and put glue
around the inside of the opening then put it around the
cardstock tube. Attach with tape to secure.
4. Decorate tube with stickers, markers, etc. We covered up the
tape that attached the paper tongue to the cardstock tube with
a piece of foil, decorative cardstock or ribbon.
Once the glue has dried, you can use your party blowers to
celebrate your festive occasion! For pictures for this craft as well
as other craft ideas, visit our blog: http://bit.ly/1iqkGsZ
PLAY TIME: Party Hat Matching Circle the two birthday party hats that match, then color.
Birthday Fun FITNESS FUN TIME:
Wrapping Paper Game This is a fun, active game which also helps teach colors and
shapes. All you need is a gift bag, some wrapping paper or
tissue paper , colored construction paper, scissors, and tape.
Follow steps below:
1. Cut out different colored shapes (i.e. red triangle,
blue circle, green square) and tape them to a wall at
varying heights.
2. Mark off a spot on the floor with a piece of masking tape
about 2 feet away from the targets. This is where your
CREATIVE KID will begin.
3. Crumble up wrapping paper or tissue paper into balls. Put
all the wrapping paper balls in the gift bag next to your
CREATIVE KID. Be sure to have enough wrapping paper
balls for all color and shapes. For example, if you have 3
shapes and 3 colors, you will need 6 balls.
4. Call out a color and your CREATIVE KID will reach in the
bag to get 1 wrapping paper ball and throw it at the target
of the same color. Repeat for each color. After you called
out each color, call out each shape. When you have done
all the colors and shapes, your CREATIVE KID runs to
collect all the balls and put them back in the bag.
5. Then he or she will take a step back from the original
masking tape starting spot. For this round, start with
shapes then colors.
6. After the second round, take an additional step back so
your CREATIVE KID will now be two steps back from the
original masking tape starting spot. For this round, mix up
colors and shapes. For example, call out a shape, then call
out a color.

activities, visit THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB blog:
