The Feast of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
November 24, 2019
Thanksgiving is Upon Us!
As the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us and the cold has set in most of us are making plans to celebrate Thanksgiving with family or friends. It is tradition here at St. Thomas More that we have a Thanksgiving morning Mass at 8:30 AM at St. Thomas More Church. I hope you can try to make this. The word “Eucharist” means thanksgiving. If you are traveling, almost every Catholic parish has a Thanksgiving Day Mass. It would be nice to visit a new church and join your prayers to ours. The Gospel of Thanksgiving day is the story Jesus told of the ten healed lepers. Only one came back to worship Jesus. I am sure being cured of leprosy would have certainly dramatically changed everything and we too would have had the urge to run and be able to embrace one’s family after so many years of isolation. The grateful leper is the model for us on Thanksgiving, which should be every day of our lives. We who are baptized have been healed of what we call “Original Sin”. We are all the healed lepers. We come to Mass to worship the Real Presence of Jesus Christ. We are blessed to live in America and to have so many things like food and shelter. While we should be grateful for all that we have, we as Catholics are called to go deeper. Let us also be mindful of the other kinds of poverty that burden so many; loneliness, addictions, illnesses and rejection. We think of those who have no country to call their own as we do. The many that flee their homeland in fear, looking for a safer place to raise their children. The leper that came to thank Jesus recognized where his healing had come from. He was able to live more freely than the other nine in that he would return to his family and friends like the others but in joy proclaim to them WHO had healed him. Let us prepare for Thanksgiving by worshipping and praising Jesus. In our baptism we are healed. All we have, including the relationships we cherish are from Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless us, our families and one nation, under God with liberty and justice for all.

Men’s Bible Study Our parish has a very active group of men, who for more than 16 yrs, have
met each Saturday at 7:30AM in a "round table" format to
discuss the Sunday scripture readings. It is very informal and
attended by some scholarly and not-so-scholarly folks. It’s rewarding and even some fun. Bring your coffee and
come on over to St. Veronica Chapel, Msgr. Halloran hall!

Imaginative Prayer When you are ready to draw your few minutes of imaginative prayer to a close, ask God how you might serve Christ the King better in daily life. Challenge yourself to remain quiet and still while you wait to receive God’s response. Here are some questions that might inspire your conversation with the Lord. Power ~ In what ways do I have power over others? How responsibly do I use that power? ~ Which people or situations make you feel powerless? How can I feel closer to you, Lord, in those moments? Eternity ~ How do I react when good relationships or experience come to an end? ~ How do I endure unpleasant situations that seem to last forever? ~ What can I do, Lord, to bring your everlasting life into the things I must do each day? Truth ~ How important to me is telling the truth? ~ How would I speak or act differently if you, Lord, were standing visibly by my side each day? ~ What can I do, Lord, to testify to others that I believe in you?
