Parent/Teacher Information Evenings – in classrooms
Safety around our school
Students’ safety and wellbeing is our foremost concern and we all need to be mindful of
practices that may put children in danger. There are a number of considerations relating
to our school setting which need identification as they are potentially hazardous, and our
combined community needs to be vigilant about ensuring every student is kept safe and
that safe practices are in place. I have included information from the Transport, Roads
and Maritime Services website.
https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/safety-rules/road-rules/parking.html
NO STOPPING/NO STANDING
These signs mean that in the area in the
direction of the arrow you must not stop your
vehicle at any point on the road or kerb, unless
there is a medical or other emergency.
Sometimes a no stopping area is indicated by a
solid yellow edge line
Principal’s Report
We have a number of these signs around the entrances to our school which most
parents and carers observe, however there are some students being dropped in these
spaces. Please adhere to the road rules as they are created for the safety and benefit
of everyone.
Church Carpark
We have had a request from the Church next door that parents refrain from using their
parking spaces when attending Parent Information Evenings. Apparently they have
numerous meetings and need to use this space in the evenings.
Parent representatives
As part of our plan to promote good communication across all classes we are asking
for 2 parent volunteers for each class. These volunteers will liaise with the classroom
teacher and communicate information to other parents and work in conjunction with the
P&C to promote fundraising and the delivery of improvements in the school. As a
shared role the workload will be lessened and responsibilities divided. We truly
appreciate parents taking this role on board and it’s a great way to get to know the
other parents and the students. Teachers will ask for parent volunteers and also collect
parents’ emails to add to the communication lists during the parent information
sessions.
There are just two P&C meetings every term which can be shared also. Your
attendance at these would be greatly appreciated as then you will be able to represent
your class’s perspective and provide valued feedback. It will make Forestville an even
more community focused school.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Our school is currently in the process of identifying improvements in wellbeing
practices and we are working towards using PBL to enhance and complement our
SAGE motto. The program will take some time to implement, and we need to liaise
with all the stakeholders to ensure best practice is in place and the program is
effective.
Students and parents/carers will be asked to complete a survey next week, but I
initially wanted to provide some background information for our community before
sending the survey. Below is an excerpt from the NSW DoE website and a link for your
information.
https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/succeed/positive-behaviour-learning

Student Leaders
Our Year 6 students lead a range of initiatives across the school. The students listed
below assist with the technical aspects of our sound room and help organise
presentations, and the second group assist in the library to ensure maximum patronage
and sound organisational practices. These students make a real difference to the smooth
running of the school, and we thank them for their dedication.
Sound Technicians
Congratulations to our 3 wonderful sound technicians;
Joel W, Joav P and Oliver D.
Library Monitors
Congratulations to our fabulous team of Library Monitors also;
Captains: Grace C and Lily B
Team: Claire H, Monique R, Arianne H, Michaela K, Isla G, Amelie P, Charlotte D, Matty
P, Arkie H, Logan S, Alex W.
Water bottles
Water bottles are an essential item for every student but we need to ensure they are both
safe and fairly indestructible. We had a student’s bottle break on Friday in the playground
and we found that it was made out of glass. The bottles below are the identified brand
and are very unsafe to bring to school.
Smash glass water bottles – not permitted
Principal’s Report
Can our community please ensure that students only bring plastic or metal water bottles
to ensure we don’t have smashed glass in the play area, which could cause possible
injury?
Best bottles: Made from plastic and metal.
Growth Mindset Parenting
Talk About the Brain
The brain is far more malleable than we once thought. Teaching our children that they
actually have control over growing their brains through the actions they take is
empowering! Tell your children that when they work hard, that’s the feeling of their
neurons connecting. The dendrites are reaching out to other dendrites, trying to connect
to make a stronger brain. What strengthens those connections is practice, asking
questions, and actively participating in learning. When children learn that their brains
physically change with effort, it leads to increased motivation and achievement. Show
your children the Brain animation clip attached to the link below to explain!

Library – help with book covering
If you are interested in helping our school library, we are always looking for people to help
with covering our beautiful new books. This is a job that you can do at home, and we
supply everything that you need to do the job.
We provide training on book covering and no experience is needed, so if you are interested
then please contact the school office to let me know. Thank you.
Andrea Normet
Library Assistant
It would be great if you could remind your child that they should be the only person who
handles their own instrument and that they should not handle or play with other
students’ instruments to avoid any accidents.

INSTRUMENT HANDLING
We have had many repairs needed in previous years due to instruments being packed
