Like every other profession, HR too has its share of Good, Bad and

Ugly. In this blog, we bring to you the inside story of the profession.

THE GOOD:

• Make a differenceHR empowers you to make a difference at both an organizational level and an individual level. The organization as a whole and individuals benefit from opportunities created mutually.

• Involve in interesting workWhat can be more interesting than interacting with people of different backgrounds and skills! HR enables you interact with a mix of people at different levels.

THE BAD:

• Looked down upon:In a class full of B-school students it is difficult to find even a handful interested to make HR their choice of career. The profession, though important, is considered to be an easy career choice.

• Obligatory Hiring:Nepotism, political and other obligations, rather than pure merit, have become reasons for hiring

• Caught in compliance:That compliance to a standard is the minimum expected and that more innovation can be brought into the profession is not realized.

THE UGLY:

• Rejection:Handing over the pink slip and recommending someone for a layoff is a miserable job. Equally worse or more is having to perform the task of workforce downsizing in the name of cost cutting.

• Motives:The driving force behind actions taken seems to be to solely increase value of company stock. In this pursuit, there are several cases of compromised values and morals.
