TheHistoryofTeaTeahasalongandinterestinghistory.Whenpeoplethinkoftraditionaltea,
they’reprobablythinkingofCamelliasinensis,theintoxicatinglyversatileplantdiscoveredoverfourthousandyearsagoinChina(arguably).Thisplantwas(andstillis)reveredforitsscentandtastebutmostofallforitsobvioushealthbenefits.WhenCamelliasinensisisbrewedfresh,theresultisgreentea,whichisoneofthenaturalremediesdiscussedinthisbook.Whentheleavesarefermentedandthenbrewed,theresultiseitheroolong(ifbrewedslightlyfermented)orblacktea(ifbrewedfullyfermented).AlthoughthesingularplantthatleadstothecreationofallthreeteasispurportedlynativetoChina,greenteaiscultivatedmostlyinJapanwhileblackandoolongaremorecommoninEuropeandIndia.

Icametorealizethatthismiscommunicationfoundbetweenallopathic(alternative)useandtraditional(scientific)useisexactlywhatprofessionalswithinthealternativemedicineparadigmfightthroughouttheircareers.It’sfrustratingtohaveapatientorlaypersonquotethenegativeresultsofastudythey’vereadwhenherbalpractitionersknowtheparticularherbisindeedsafeinteaform.

Herbalteasaremadefromdriedherbsandwater—theyarediluted.Again,thevastmajorityofthemaresafeforeveryone.
