MEET OUR NEW 2016 ~ 2017 LEADERSGrand Master, Stephen Mann Shannan Vieth, Assembly President

Stephen Mann was born andraised in Nampa, Idaho in 1989 byJeffandCathyMann.Hehasthreesiblings,startingwithhisolderbrotherKenny,hisyoungersisterKiaraandhisyoungestsisterAmanda.Hewastheyoungestchildfor13yearsbeforehisyoungersistersjoinedthefamilywith thembeing formallyadopted inJune 2013. His grandparents Samand Tay Munden who also lived

inNampawereabigpartofhischildhoodwithmanyaweekendspentattheirhouse. DuringhisyearsinhighschoolhewasinvolvedintheannualcommunitysalethatwasformallyputonbyMercyHospital.WhichisnowputonbytheBoysandGirlsClub.Whichforpeoplewhomaynotknowwaswheretherewasaclassiccarthatwasrestoredtobegivenawayatarafflewithafewotheritemsortripsthatwerealsoraffledaway.Withalltheproceedsbeinggivenbacktothecommunity.AfterhighschoolheworkedLandscapingwhichhestillworkstothisday. HejoinedtheOddFellows11yearsagoinNampa#40rightafterheturned16,buthehadbeenintroducedtomanyof themembersbeforehe joinedattending thedinnersthatthelodgehadbeforethemeetings.Whenhefirstjoinedhecouldrememberplentyoftimeswhentherewasmorethanonepersonrunningforofficeinthelodge.Itwasinterestingtoseethatmanypeoplecomingtothemeetings. Itwasin2010afterhismaternalgrandfatherSampassedawayonMondayandhisbrotherpassedonThursday from his injuries sustained from a motorcyclecrash where someone ran the red light. Followingthoseeventshe found the importanceof the lodgewiththe members from my lodge being able to perform the

fatherwastransferredtoSaltLakeCitywhereIgrewupandattendedschool.IwasactiveinGirlScouts,schoolandchurch,andespeciallydancing. WhenIwas18,ImarriedandmovedtoSanDiego,California where I had my first two boys. I returned toIdahoFallsforashorttimeandthenreturnedtotheSanFranciscoBayAreawhere I lived for thenext25years.I had a daughter and another son. I worked at almostall of the electronic companies in the area, IBM, EPRI;and for DOE and Bakersfield Jr. College when I livedinBakersfield,CA. I have8grandchildrenand3greatgrandchildren. IjoinedJosephineRebekahLodge#14inSanJose,CA in 1978. At the time of my mother’s passing, shehad29yearsasaRebekahinCaliforniaandIdaho.Mymother-in-law,JaniceVieth,wasalsoa29yearmemberin California. I met my husband, James at a Rebekahmeetingin1979andwewerefriendsfirst.Myhusbandhad33yearsintheOddFellowsand14yearsasaRebekahinCalifornia; and joinedPortneufOddFellows#20andIvyRebekahLodge#23whenwemovedtoIdaho. Iamproudof thework thatwehavedone forourcommunitiesintheRebekahlodgesthatIamamemberof(Bingham#78,Ivy#23andmyHomeLodge,Progress

Iamdedicatingthisyeartomyhusband,JamesVieth;mymother,Muriel(MA)Bell;mymother-in-law,JaniceViethandtoAdelaideWelch.ThesepeoplewereinstrumentalinmybeingaRebekah inCaliforniaand forgivingme thisopportunitytoserveourOrder. I was born in Montpelier,Idaho inAugust 1943. My familylivedinPocatellountilIwas4.My

Dearmembers, IthasbeenanexcitingtimebeingGrandWardenandDeputyGrandMaster,beingabletotraveltothevariouslodgesforDistrictmeetings.MeetingpeoplethatIhaven’tmetbefore.ItwillbeagreatyearasGrandMasterandmyofficialvisitsshouldbestartingverysoon. IwanttowelcomemynewlyelectedofficersDeputyGrand Master Marge Harlan from Mountain Home #19,GrandWardenGlenSchultzfromAda#3,GrandTreasurerDonnieMarvinfromMountainHome#19.Iwanttothankall of my appointed officers for accepting the offices towhich they were appointed. I would also like to thankourSovereignGrandRepresentativeDannyWoodPastSovereign Grand Master. It was also nice to see DanMathewsGeneralCommandingandallof themembersthatattendedoursessions.TheGrandSessionsinFortHallnextyearisgoingtobeaneventthatIhopeeveryonewillbeabletoattend. IhopeverymuchthateverylodgeinthejurisdictionisremainingingoodhealthandkeepingOddFellowshipalive in Idaho. I hope that everyone is ready for theholidays and all of the lodges that have Thanksgivingeventsplanned thismonth,haveall thepreparations inplace. With theholidayseasonshortlyuponus Iwant towisheveryoneaHappyThanksgivings. Thiswillbeaninterestingyearmoving forward in theOrderand lettersshouldbegoingoutformyOfficialvisitssoon.IhaveaquotefromNelsonMandela“Italwaysseemsimpossible,until it’sdone.” Ihope thateveryonewillsee thatmostthingsarenotimpossibleandthatwejusttakeeverythingonedayatatime.Withthosewords,Ihopethateveryoneisreadyfortheholidayseason.

IamproudandhumbledbytheconfidencethatmySistersandBrothershaveinmebygivingmetheHonorofservingasAssemblyPresidentforthenextyear. Iwould like to thankallof thePastPresidents forgiving me encouragement and suggestions these lastthreeyears.AlsotomySistersandBrothersinDistrict1, I couldnothaveachieved thispositionwithoutyoursupportandlove.Again,‘ThankYouAll’. Iamlookingforwardtotravellingalloverthestatevisitingoldfriendsanmakingnew.IwillbegoingtopartsofourbeautifulstatethatIhaveneverbeento,andwillbetakinglotsofpicturessoIcankeepthememoriesalive. My projects are Education, Funeral Aid, VisionResearch,andArthritis.My‘Special’ProjectsareMentalHealth Awareness, Childhood Cancer and HearingImpaired.Theselastthreehaveaffectedmyfamilyandfriendsandareverydeartomyheart. I have a deep interest in the history of our OrderandourstateandwouldappreciateseeinganyartifactsorwrittenhistoryofyourLodgesandcommunitieswhenIvisit. IwouldliketocarryonwhatPPRAGeorgiaWickhamandPGMTomAshleyhavestarted,‘WorkingTogether’.IknowthatinmyDistrictthishasimprovedtheparticipationinthelodgesandthefellowship.LetusallworktogetherinputtingthenameofourOrderintothecommunitiesweliveinandintheprocesswemaybeabletoincreaseourmembership. Thisfirstletterisshort,buttheywillbelonger(nottoolong)inthefuture.
