The Lord’s Pattern of
Prayer
Matthew 6:5-15 (KJV) - 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Matthew 6:5-15 (KJV) - 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
We all know we should pray more & longer... But how? and why?
The WHY is because:
James 5:16 - Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
The HOW is the Lord’s Model Prayer!
Prayer is communication with God! IT IS CRUCIAL WE UNDERSTAND OUR NEED TO PRAY... IT IS THE MEASURE OF OUR RELATIONSHIP TO GOD!
Our Instruction
Ephesians 6:18 (KJV) - 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Most people problems are misunderstandings.
Most spiritual problems are lack of prayer.
The wrong motive for prayer is praying to be seen by men.
Praying—even loving to pray—is not a sign that a person really knows God.
The fact that a person really knows God means that he does pray.
The right motive for prayer is praying to be heard by God.
The willingness to take time to pray: "When thou prayest."
There has to be the will to pray.
You must take time to get alone and pray.
You must have a private place deliberately chosen for prayer.
Get alone: unobserved—out of everyone's sight.
Get alone: undisturbed—avoid interruptions and disturbances.
Get alone: unheard—concentrate and meditate to allow God the freedom to work in your heart as He wishes.

The Lord’s Pattern of
Prayer
“…After this MANNER therefore pray ye:…”
Our Father which art in
heaven
Psalm 68:5 (KJV) - A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
Isaiah 64:8 (KJV) - But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Romans 8:14-17 (KJV) - 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Because he is our heavenly father means:
We have someone we can trustWe have someone that will provideWe have someone that will protectWe have someone that’s available all the timeWe have someone that will discipline
Hallowed be thy name
Philippians 2:9-11 (KJV) - 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Psalm 113:1-3 (KJV) - 1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD. 2 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. 3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised.

Thy Kingdom Come
This kingdom is not “physical” but “spiritual”
Prayer allows you to tap into another realm above and outside this physical realm, where God rules and reigns!
So when we pray, “Thy kingdom come”, we’re asking God to make His invisible kingdom visible here on earth!
Romans 14:17 (KJV) - For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
It’s through prayer that we tap into victory, healing, deliverance, etc.!
But you don’t get the BENEFITS of the kingdom if you’re not willing to SUBMIT to His kingdom rule!
People want the “blessings” of serving God without the “commitment”!
They want a “savior” but NOT a “Lord” – if He’s not Lord of all He’s not Lord at all!
His “kingdom” is only coming to those who SERVE the King! You can only serve Him by loving Him with all your heart, etc.
Praying “Thy Kingdom Come” also means binding, loosing and interceding.

Thy Will Be Done
Matthew 7:21 (NASB) - "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
Matthew 12:50 (KJV) - For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Four Wills That Struggle for Our Obedience
Man’s own willOther men’s willSatan’s willGod’s will
Man’s Own Will
Romans 7:15 (KJV) - For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Galatians 5:17 (KJV) - For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Other Men’s Will
1 Peter 4:2 (KJV) - That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
Satan’s Will
John 8:44 (KJV) - Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
God’s Will
Ephesians 5:15-17 (NASB) – 15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Three Aspect’s to God’s Will
Comprehensive will
Perfect will
Submissive will
God has a perfect will
He will not force it upon us!
We’ve got to desire it!
Why do we sometimes oppose God’s will:
We’re not really sure we can trust God!
We want it our way no matter what God says
We want what looks, feels, and tastes good.
We want it the way we want it, when we want – the exact opposite of God’s will.
How is God’s will done in heaven?
Immediately – not one second transpires.
Perfectly – no debate or confusion but full conformity to the will of God.
Absolutely – There’s nobody in heaven with a will independent or in conflict.
1 John 5:14-15 (KJV) - 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
1 John 3:22-23 (KJV) - 22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
