THE MONTREAL SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY
We aim to make theological education accessible to a wide range of students. This is a rich opportunity for those seeking deeper understanding of Christian faith and spiritual enrichment; and/or wanting to pursue graduate theological education without earning a degree; and/or thinking about ordained ministry, but wanting to discern a call by trying some courses first. The Montreal School of Theology is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools. This course is given 3 academic credits at the Masters (M.Div.) level. Credits apply to the programs of any of the partner Colleges of MST.

FALL 2018
Introduction to the Hebrew Bible An overview of the stories, hymns, poems, sayings, and songs that form the Christian Old Testament
Over many hundreds of years oral and written stories, hymns, poems, sayings and songs were brought together to form the Hebrew Bible, sometimes referred to as the Old Testament. This book has become a central text of not only Western civilization, but the backbone of the three monotheistic faiths: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The course will offer a critical overview of the content, periods in history, geography, socio-political, and theological approaches to the Hebrew Bible. While we will use historical-critical tools and view this material as a product of human culture, emphasis will also be given to understanding these scriptures from a Christian faith perspective. There are no prerequisites for this course.
