From Bali to Medan on a RickshawThe Rickshaw Run is an annual fund-raising event which sees some daredevil good people bearing the grueling journey of over 3,000 km from Bali to Medan, on a temperamentally fragile rickshaw. All done for a good cause as each team must raise a minimum of £1,000 for charity.

Two teams from Scotland, including the Wallace Monumental, raised over £13,000 between them for Aberlour Child Care Trust, a children’s charity in Scotland. Join them as they share their amazing experience tackling difficult routes in Java, going through the dense jungle of Sumatra and surviving continuous breakdown before finally making it to Medan... on a lorry!

“Sandy at the start line with his kilt on. We wore the kilt often. There were 27 teams from around the world participating in the journey from Bali to Medan. We were all raising money for charity.”

“From left to right Bill Cook, Miles Harrison and Sandy Scott with our rickshaw pimped with a saltire (the Scottish flag) on the front. Picture taken before we started the adventure from Bali to Medan.”

“We had to push the rickshaw on to the ferry as we had a fuel leak. The lorry drivers who were also on the ferry helped us fix it. They were great.”

“But we made it to Sumatra and drove on. Stopping only for food and breakdowns.”

“Eventually our rickshaws were beyond repair and we had to load them and us onto a lorry for a journey of more than 1000km. 45 hours non stop in the lorry.”
