It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent
one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent
desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental
Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion
increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily.
A Year Devoted to St. Joseph: May 1, 2020 - May 1, 2021
Bishop Callahan invites all to celebrate and pray with him
to St. Joseph the Workman on May 1 via livestreamed Mass,
diolc.org/live, beginning at 12:00 noon, from the Cathedral.
This Mass will begin a special year of thanksgiving, petition, and honor to
St. Joseph.
In the year ahead, the diocese will offer prayers for his blessings upon
our families (Patron Saint of Husbands, Fathers, and Families),
our beloved dead (Patron Saint of a Happy Death), and the special needs
of our Diocese (Patron Saint of the Universal Church).
As we make our way through the year, several events, prayers and novenas will also be available.
Bishop Callahan will be live streaming the celebration of noon Mass on Friday, May 1,
to start the diocesan celebration of the year of St. Joseph.

The Time of Quarantine
We are living in an uncertain and challenging time; we are living in a time of Quarantine, shut in our houses. We are living in a time, when our lockdown is very strict; no public
Masses, the Churches are closed and visiting people outside our home is not advisable, unless it is for reasons of absolute necessity. Many of you are experiencing the pain of
not receiving the Sacraments. Many or even most of us would not have faced such a painful period of time in our entire life, as this Pandemic has brought in.
In the midst of our distress, sadness, boredom and uncertainty, we could also feel a
sense of peace. We could use this time better to reflect on God’s love, which is manifested through so many health-care personnel, who give their whole self to
safeguard and protect those who have been affected by the Corona Virus, even those, who are otherwise sick and hospitalized.
We are patiently waiting for the time, when the current situation will change and the
pandemic will disappear. Instead of exhausting ourselves dwelling on the distress and
bitterness, we can use this time of waiting to discover internal peace. Let us know that if only we wait with God, He will also wait with us. One might ask, how it is possible in the
midst of suffering or in the midst of an uncomfortable situation. Faith in Jesus Christ teaches us that when we suffer, Jesus also suffers with us. We have many instances in
the Gospel how Jesus was deeply moved with compassion, when he met people suffering. Let us strongly believe that Jesus Christ is with us all along our life’s passage
sharing our pain and giving us solace and comfort.
Just as we wait every Winter for Spring to come, let us wait patiently but hopefully that Jesus Christ will wipe our tears soon out of His
immense love, mercy and compassion.
Let us bless The Lord and give thanks to every situation of our life.
God bless you
Fr. Arul Joseph V.

Teacher Appreciation Week May 4-8
Please recognize the work and sacrifice of our educators, administrators, and all school support staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Despite the current conditions and restrictions, many have transformed their traditional classrooms into virtual ones. This year we are offering this intercessory prayer to St. John Baptist de La Salle as a sign of hope for our schools and a source of strength for our future. Share and pray this prayer during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Intercessory Prayer to St. John Baptist de La Salle Written
by Ann Fitch Source: practicalprayers.com/prayer-saint-john-baptist-de-la-salle-teachers
O St. John Baptist de La Salle, teacher of teachers, and helper of those who educate others, I come to you asking your intercession for (the protection and increased wisdom for the
Catholic School teachers in the Diocese of La Crosse) and all who teach. Pray, dear saint, that they be caring, compassionate, dedicated, empathetic, generous, kind,
joyful, patient, engaging, inspirational, understanding, and above all loving. Intercede for them so that like you they instill in others joy for learning and the desire to
become lifelong learners. Pray that they are always inspired by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and that they allow the Holy Spirit to lead them and guide them as they help other pursue truth and knowledge.
O holy teacher, pray that all who teach be blessed and fulfilled in knowing they are helping others to grow and become knowledgeable. Amen.
