A Night That You Won’t Forget!
The Sunday Connection: Generosity In Today’s Gospel, a man in the crowd shouts out to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my
brother to divide the inheritance with me.” Jesus uses the question to teach what life really consists of and what really matters.
Jesus tells the crowd a parable. A rich man's lands have yielded more crops than expected. His response is to wonder how he can possibly store it all. He has what he thinks is a brilliant idea: to tear down his present barns and build larger ones. Then he will have many things stored up for years of eating, drinking, and making merry.
“You fool” is God's response to this man because that very night his life will be taken away. The rich man's world is small, just him and his possessions, and now he learns that he is to lose his life. What good are his possessions now? This is how it will be for everyone who stores up treasure for himself or herself but is not rich in what matters to God.
Centuries later, St. Gregory the Great taught that when we care for the needs of the poor, we are giving them what is theirs, not ours. We are not just performing, works of mercy; we are paying a debt of justice. Life does not consist of what we own, but rather in how we share our possessions with others. The goods of the earth have been given to everyone.

And So Much More…
Legend has it that during the pontificate of Liberius, the Roman patrician John and his wife, who were without heirs, made a vow to donate their possessions to the Virgin Mary. They prayed that she might make known to them how they were to dispose of their property in her honor. On August 5th, at the height of the Roman summer, snow fell during the night on the summit of the Esquiline Hill. In obedience to a vision of the Virgin Mary that they had the same night, the couple built a basilica in honor of Mary on the very spot that
was covered with snow. Today it is called Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the largest church in Rome dedicated to Mary.
On a summer’s night so many years ago a pray’r of love was answered with the snow.
A couple without child pray’d to you, our Mother mild, to guide them as they sought a way to serve you.
In a dream came an answer to their call; “On a nearby hill this night, the snow shall fall.
Build a church upon that place where my Son shall share His grace. I am Mary, the Lady of the Snows!”
Our Lady of the Snows, warm the winters of our lives. Spread the flurry of the love from beyond the skies.
May we grow and never stray from our Savior’s perfect way, O Mary, Our Lady of the Snows.
Look upon our parish, Mother from above! Help it grow in grace, in charity and love.
You freely gave your Son for the lives of everyone to the Cross where the sword of sorrow peirc’d you.
Like a gentle snow that falls upon the earth, spread the boundless love that guides us to birth!
All our lives, may we renew in this parish nam’d for you, O Mother! Our Lady of the Snows!
Bless our parish, dear Lady of the Snows.
Our good neighbor, Kyle Brier, was our second “Early Bird” winner. Kyle in turn kindly contributed his $250 winnings of back to the parish!
Don’t miss out on
your chance to win as well as your chance to help your parish.

hours for this year can sign up for one of the many opportunities to help out at this year’s Bazaar!

Call the parish office to sign up and have a great time doing it as well!

Currently, around ten percent of our weekly collection is given electronically. For many it is a simpler, safer and more predictable way for our parish to receive your contribution: -It’s safer than checks or cash: It’s more secure than giving by cash or check, both of which can be lost or mis-tracked. Online gifts are secure and can be sent directly to our parish bank account. -It creates faithful giving: Recurring gifts help you make giving a priority. For OLS, it makes income more predictable, budget planning an easier process and keeps giving consistent. -It reduces the administrative burden: Online giving reduces the printing, mailing and processing costs of the parish. Online Giving allows you to track your donations and access your tax statements at any time.
