The TRIDEX POINT GRINDING SYSTEM is a fully programmable
pointing and material handling system to manufacture a wide va-
riety of medical device points on tubing or solid wire using elec-
trochemical grinding technology (ECG). An adjunct to the Tridex
Model SG1645 or SG2060 electrochemical grinders, it offers
very fast set-up times and can be changed over from one size to
another in only minutes. It also facilitates secondary operations
such as electro-polishing, bead blasting, slotting, etc. without los-
ing point orientation. Unlike traditional point grinders it requires
no adhesive tape and has the capacity to handle a 100mm (4.0
inches) width of workpieces so it has high throughput for specialty
pointing applications.
Below are typical point configurations.

The ECG Pointing System
Step 1Tubing or wires are spread onto a Loading Grid (each gage size has its own Loading Grid) and the front faces are aligned using a pusher against a stop. The workpieces are then removed from the Material Loading Station with a Transfer Clip.
Step 2The populated Transfer Clip is unloaded into the machine mounted Point Grinding Fixture. The preprogrammed machine cycle grinds the necessary bevels and lancets. Cycle times are dependent upon workpiece diameter, wall thickness, complexity of the point con-figuration, desired amount of edge rounding, etc. In many cases ECG is able to round the heel of a tri-bevel point, an anti-coring feature, potentially eliminating the necessity of secondary bead blasting. The parts are removed from the fixture with the Trans-fer Clip, retaining point orientation, and are ready for any subsequent operations such as cleaning, electro-polishing, grooving, etc.
Step 3If secondary operations requiring part orientation are required, the Transfer Clip can unload the workpieces using the Pointed Cannula Transfer Fixture and place the parts into a Parts Transfer Magazine.
Step 4The populated magazine is used to move the workpieces to secondary operations such as electro-polishing, grooving etc.
