A pair of Oakville A’s baseball teams won CentralOntario Baseball Association playoff championships thismonth.

The mosquito AAA A’s earned a spot at provincials withan impressive comeback in their tournament final, over-coming a 12-3 deficit against the Brampton Braves to score17 unanswered runs and triumph 20-12.

Members of the team are A.J. Smith, Alex Fulton,Andrew Yancan, Graeme Rourke, Josh Coish, Kyle Carey,Daniel Ohorodnyk, John Whaley, Jason Provost, JohnMoate, Lee Joch, Matthew Pilarczyk and Keenan Lutzko.Dwayne Smith, John Holloway, Bob Lutzko, Dave Fultonand Mike Provost coach the club.

Meanwhile the minor mosquito AA team proved itsCentral Ontario Baseball Association regular-season titlewas no fluke, winning the league’s playoff championship aswell.

The A’s whipped the Mississauga Majors 13-3 in theCOBA tournament final in Waterdown, completing a 4-1

playoff showing. Oakville actually lost its first game of theplayoffs, 7-6 to the Burlington Bears, but took advantage ofthe double-knockout format to rally for the championshipwin.

Oakville left little to chance in the final against theMajors, rolling out to a 9-0 lead by the middle of the thirdinning. Mississauga narrowed the gap to 9-3, but the A’stacked on four more runs for the decisive victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Oakville routed the second-ranked Brampton Braves 14-2, smothered Georgetown 13-1 and pounded Mississauga 29-5.

Tyler Elson, Zach Stamegma, Oliver Tretop, SpencerWalker, Spencer Douglas, Austin Gerow, Dallas Taylor,Vincent Reale, Glenn MacAleer, Matt Vukojevic, TylerRymal and Ben Bernier played for the club this year, whichwas coached by Clark Rymal, Allan Elson, Miro Vukojevicand Brian Stamegma.

Third gold for StrikersThe Oakville Strikers under-12 girls’ select soccer team won

its third consecutive tournament title last weekend, claimingthe title at the Oakville Regional All-Star/Select Tournament.

Oakville defeated Owen Sound and Milton by 2-0 scores andtied St. Catharines 1-1 in round-robin play, then earned a spotin the final with a 3-0 win over Erin Mills. In the gold-medalgame, Rachel Bright scored the game-winner in the Strikers’3-2 triumph over St. Catharines.

Haleigh Hutchinson netted five goals in Oakville’s final twogames and was named the championship game’s MVP. BethanyGreer and Courtney Clarke also earned player-of-the-gamehonours during the competition.

The Strikers, who previously won tournaments in Ancasterand Burlington this year, also feature Mikaela Lowe, DanaSeagrove, Cassi Ellis, Taylor Wade, Caroline O’Brien, Jess Purvis,Lydia Gibson, Maddie MacDonald, Mannie Montelpare, LaurenRzepecki, Holly Miller, Gillian Sandison, Morgan Caissie, AlyssaMiocevich, Rachel Worton, Sarah MacDowell and HaileyFrancis. Mark Worton and Joe Miocevich coach the team.

Going undefeated in both competitions, the Oakville Hawksnovice 2 lacrosse team won gold medals at tournaments inGuelph and Calgary.

The Hawks defeated Sarnia 7-1, Brampton 12-0, Guelph 9-2 and Burlington 6-5 at the Guelph tournament, rallying froma 4-0 deficit to defeat Burlington in the final. In Calgary,Oakville beat the Calgary Sabrecats 10-1, Lethbridge 9-1,Calgary Axemen 11-1, Okotoks Mustangs 12-1 and Saskatoon10-5.

Team members are Adam Wolf, Nicholas Randell, MichaelDobko, Kevin Dobko, Jackson Den Elzen, Michael Hickey,Matthew Dilella, Nicholas Leshuk, Jonathan Donville, JohnnyMastromarco, Jayden Wiggins, Kyle Kolwich, Matthew Milford,Matthew Danner, Matthew Thom and Kyle Moniz. The team iscoached by Jason Donville, John Dobko, Steve Thom, RonMilford and Mike Wolf.
