Ultrafog® High Pressure Water Mist System
Ultrafog® is a superior Class 1 water mist system and typically operates at 100 bar pressure, being
originally designed for arduous duty in the marine industry, where robust provable international
testing and standards have to be the best.
The system uses 10% of the water typically used in sprinkler systems and the unique design
of the nozzle ensures that even total immersion in a brine tank for 6 months does not block
or effect the performance.
Duty and standby multi stage pump sets or water cylinders powered by
nitrogen gas deliver water through micro bore stainless steel piping which can
be accurately formed to suit the fabric of the building.
Extreme temperatures in food processes involving oil and grease are subject to frequent
fires and these are quickly extinguished using Ultrafog® high pressure water mist, which
vapourises into micron size particles to become steam, instantly cooling the fire with no
damage or mess - just pure water with no additives.
Fire Brigades in certain circumstances use water mist for fighting fires in the knowledge that it is
vastly more effective in dropping the temperature, cooling and isolating the source of the fire.
Robust Engineering, Proven Standards and Focused Project Management ensure complete
satisfaction.
The non-invasive qualities of the Ultrafog® High Pressure Water Mist System make it the preferred
choice for people-based environments such as: High Voltage Applications, Hotels, Offices, Gas
Turbines, Stately Homes, Utilities, Tunnels, Food Production, Machinery Spaces, Leisure Industry
as well as a Replacement for Sprinkler Systems.

Definitions
Definition
Ultrafog® is a Class 1 High Pressure Water Mist System as defined by the National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA 750) and draft European (CEN) standards. The systems operate between
approximately 60 and 200 bar with droplet sizes ranging between 10 and 200 microns.
Performance
The use of high pressures and a range of specially developed discharge heads mean an Ultrafog®
system will generate a range of droplet sizes that ensure effective fire fighting. The efficiency of an
Ultrafog® system is such that it will use less than 10% of the water discharged by a comparable
conventional sprinkler system.
Ultrafog® systems and components are tested by the Swedish (SP) and Norwegian (SINTEF) Test
Laboratories that are fully authorised by the International Marine Organisation (IMO) and accepted by
NFPA. The systems are tested and approved to the requirements of IMO Res. A.800 for
accommodation spaces, stores and service spaces, IMO Msc/Circ. 1165 and IMO Msc/Circ. 913 for
machinery spaces and pump rooms. Component testing is also undertaken by Underwriters
Laboratories.
INTELLIGENT OPTIONS - Ultrafog® systems can be configured in several ways:
Open (Deluge)
A Water Fog System using open discharge heads attached to a pipe network that is connected via a
valve to a pressurised water supply. The valve is controlled mechanically or by means of a detection
system. When the valve is opened, water flows into the pipe network and is discharged through all the
heads attached to that network.
Wet Pipe
A Water Fog System using automatic (frangible bulb) discharge heads attached to a pipe network
containing water and connected to a pressurised water supply. The water will discharge immediately
from any head opened by the heat of a fire.
Dry Pipe
A Water Fog System with its pipe network filled with compressed air. When a discharge head is
opened by the heat of a fire the drop in pressure causes a dry pipe valve to open. Water under
pressure then enters the pipe network and discharges through any opened heads.
Pre-Action
A Water Fog System as described above but with a supplemental smoke or flame detection system
covering the same area. Actuation of the detection system will also open the dry pipe valve and allow
water to fill the pipe network. If heat then opens one or more automatic heads, water will be
discharged immediately.

Saves Time, Space And Money
Reduces fire-related damage
The Ultra Water Mist System suffocates and cools down the fire quickly and effectively. It thereby
inhibits the flow of heat beyond the fire zone which helps to minimise the risk of fire related damage.
In certain circumstances, smoke and water mist droplets entrain and drop to a lower level - effectively
cleaning the atmosphere.
Reduces water damage
The Ultra Water Mist System puts out fires as effectively as any other sprinkler system but with
considerably less water consumption. Water mist systems are designed to the same or better
standards than sprinkler systems.
For the majority of environments water mist has proved to be the optimum solution - it puts out most
fires quickly and effectively without significant consequential damage. Structural engineers do not
want vast amounts of water within a buildings’ fabric.
The lower water consumption is an advantage but can be crucial in areas with electrical equipment, in
preserving historic buildings or in spaces where important documents, equipment or artifacts are
kept.
Saves space
The Ultra Water Mist System uses smaller pipes than traditional sprinkler systems. This is a great
advantage not only when installing into existing buildings, but also for above-ceiling installation in
new buildings where space can be a premium and when designing local application fire systems.
Reduced Installation time
Using stainless steel piping eliminates corrosion and debris issues that can occur in traditional
systems.
Looks good!
Nozzles can be powder coated to most colours and are very discreet.
Highly effective
The advantages of using High Pressure Water Mist Systems (Ultrafog®) give the specifier confidence in
designing a robust system with the right approvals and reference sites to ensure quality fire
protection.
