Pilgrimage (RE)
A pilgrimage is when people travel to a place of worship that is usually far away. They may have to go
to a different city or country. Usually a pilgrimage is done for spiritual or religious reasons. Muslims
have to do a pilgrimage to Mecca. This is called Hajj.
Watch the following video about one girl’s journey to Mecca.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok7-mB62xeE
All Muslims must try to visit this holy city in Saudi Arabia at least once in their lifetime. A tour
guide describes the different rituals of the pilgrimage. She shows her the clothes pilgrims wear and
video footage of herself among the millions of people who make the trip every year.

Pilgrimage (RE)
Yesterday we looked at the pilgrimage that Muslims take to go to Mecca.

are planning on going on one in the future.

Music

Choose three new pieces of music to listen to.
- Which do you like the best? Why?
- Watch the orchestral performance- what instruments can you see? Can you identify which
family of instruments they belong to (woodwind, brass, percussion, strings)?
- Read the description- what was the music composed for? It could be from a ballet, an opera,
a television programme, a musical, a film or simply a piece of music in its own right.
- Does the piece of music tell a story? Close your eyes and think about what the music reminds
you of. Some of the pieces are game-changing pieces of music by influential composers. Try
listening to the Doctor Who theme- how did that change music composition?
