What was life like for women
living in Germany from 1933 –
1939.
What did the Nazis want from German Women?
• To mould Aryan women into their ideal
mothers
• To have large families
• To not work
• To look like this
• To cook in a particual way
• To dress in a particular way
• To behave in a particular way
• To Bring up their children as loyal Nazis
How were the women affected by the Nazi policies
The differences of the treatments of germanwomen under the Weimar Republic in the 1920’s and under the Nazis in the 1930’s
German womansecretary in 1938
In Urban Attitudes:
Under the Weimar Republic: • Women had the right to vote
• There was equality of sexes under civic matters
• No descrimination against women bureaucrats
• Maternity rights
But women’s main role wasn’t as different as the Nazis wanted it:
• They remained under-represented
• Motherhood was still women’s most
important function
• Working women were paid 10% to 20% less than working men.
• Under the Nazis Regime:
• The Nazis party was clear about their desire
of excluding women from all political life of Germany
• In 1935 Hilter declared Women's rights, during a speech to the National-Socialist Women'sCongress
• School programs for girls were changed
• Women's associations with comunist and socialist groups were banned
• In 1936 women were banned from high-level positions in the
judicial system
• Women were all fired in the medical field
• In 1937 women were allowed to be mothers and be employed
at the same time
