Nature of Work
• Precisely follow orders from physicians • Adjust and maintain imaging equipment• Prepare patients for procedures• Operate the computerized equipment• Position the patient and equipment to take the correct image
Education and TrainingAssociate’s degree or bachelor’s
degree.• Certificate programs last 6 to 12
months• Programs include classroom
and clinical training• Course work includes anatomy,
pathology, patient care, radiation physics and protection, and image evaluation
• Must be licensed or certified in most states
Other Qualifications
• Must follow exact instructions• Have to work closely with patients• Must be able to mix the right doses of chemicals together• Have to stand on your feet for long hours• Must understand how to operate complex machinery
Job Outlook/ Future Prospects• Employment is expected to grow by 28% between 2010 and 2020• An increasing aging population will have more medical conditions• Radiologists will be needed to maintain and use the diagnostic equipment• A number of new hobs will be in physicians offices and in imaging centers• Outpatient care is encouraged by third-party payers as a cost saving measure
