HOT TOPIC //// BUMP UP THE VALUE
Add a new kitchenWhen showing potential buyersaround a property, the kitchenis quite often the dealbreaker. An extended kitchen, withclean and shining units, and adining area laid out as thoughto welcome in the new family, allows prospective purchasersto see the home at its best, andimagine their new life in theproperty. Install a new kitchen, and lay it out to advantagemaking use of all the available
space. Seek advice from areputable firm on best-sellingkitchen designs for a good ideaof what will appeal to buyers.
Capricorn Kitchens offer arange of classic andcontemporary kitchens, andwill send an experienced salesconsultant to help you choosethe best design. You needn’toverspend on utensils, but ifyou do purchase new ones, choose chrome for a chic finishand make sure you keep the
worktops clutter free andsparkling. Tony Reed, salesdirector at Capricorn Kitchens, commented: “When choosing a new kitchen, you shouldchoose something costingaround 10 per cent of yourproperty price. When you sell, you will see a similar return on this, subject to works costs. Our advisors can help you choose something appropriate to your property.”
Alex Dickson, branch manager at Sutton KershAllerton added: “While you may not profit from the improvements made, you will benefit from the added ‘attract-ibility’. Buyershave high expectations and in a competitive market you need your property to stand out.”
Bump up by up to 10 per cent of your property price
Add value to your home with simple building projects, and youstand a much better chance of making a sale. Your Move hasresearched the top five ways to make your property stand outon the market.
BUMP UP THE VALUE
Your Move30
p27-40:p03-12 24/11/09 17:48 Page 30
yourmovemagazine.com
Install a new bathroomThe bathroom is an importantroom in every property, and aclean, sparkling suite willentice buyers. Indeed, lettingagents know the value of a goodbathroom when it comes tofinding tenants and it’s nodifferent with buyers looking tomove into a property with theirfamily, and who have little timeto spare on renovating. If youare thinking about installing anew bathroom, chooseappealing neutral colours and,as with the kitchen, refrainfrom allowing your personaltaste to dictate the colourscheme. Adding an en-suitebathroom to your masterbedroom has alsobecome a popularmove in recent years, adding value to theproperty andcatering for moderntastes. RobFarnham, directorof Venmores, commented: “Anew bathroomwould definitely helpthe seller to get the value of the investment back, but thisdepends on the bathroom beingsuitable for the house.” Theadvice is to choose somethingchic and not too cheap – assmart buyers will spot a cheapsuite. A spend of between£1,000 and £1,500 (subject to works costs) should besufficient to smarten up theproperty and attract buyers, and see a return of the same.
Bump up by up to £1500
Lofty heightsLoft conversions have alsoproven popular over recentyears. Buyers want to know thatthey are investing their moneyin as much space as possible, and if you can create anotherbedroom or studio space in theloft then you are certainlyadding value. Check with youragent for their advice first of all,as you may find that your areais popular with people lookingfor properties of a certainnumber of bedrooms, or willing to pay a top price for the location. If the latter istrue, then beware of investingtoo much into the project,
or of speculating onselling the house
for more than is usually
achieved inthat area.
You willneed tothink
about gettinga good floor put
up in the loft, andaccess to it organized, alongwith lighting and heating.Decorate the room in neutralshades to make the most of thespace, and if you can put a bedin the room do so – as thisallows prospective buyers toreally imagine that room as a bedroom, and see the spacefor the size it is. Theseimprovements could cost youbetween £15,000 to £30,000,although subject to work costsand the location of the property,so sellers need to see this moveas a longer-term investment.
However, it’s likely that the vendor willmake a return of at least the costs on thisimprovement.
Bumps up by up to £30,000 in the long-term
New windowsA high percentage of housesavailable on the market havenew double-glazed windows, and when you’re competingwith new builds to sell yourhome, it’s worthwhile checkingthat yours are in order beforeyou put the house on themarket. Unlike installing a newbathroom, though, don’t expectnew windows to bump up theselling price of your homeoverall, although you canexpect to see more interest frombuyers who’ll have confidencein the property based on thenew windows and the resultingenergy efficiency. If your homehas period features such as sashwindows, keep these as they’llappeal to buyers.
Bump up by up to the cost of the work
A new conservatoryIn winter, a conservatorydoesn’t always look its best, but if you can add one to yourhouse before you sell it thenyou’ll be adding another room, and bringing light and airinessinto your neighbouring roomsfor the rest of the year. Youragent will be able to help theprospective buyer see thepotential in a conservatory,
but make sure your
garden looksas spick
and span aspossible, and
choose warm tonesto decorate it, and
install a fire at this time of year. A good conservatorywill set you back between£10,000 and 15,000 and, likeloft conversions, need to beseen as a longer-terminvestment. Alex Dickson, branch manager at SuttonKersh, commented: “A goodway of making the most ofinternal space without a largebuilding project is to create akitchen/dining area. For time-poor families, this phenomenonis a welcome addition to theliving space and with just aknock-through job (subject tobuilding regulations) and somesmall internal improvementsyou could add significantappeal to your property.”
Bump up by up to £15,000
Final thoughtsBeware the temptation to begin any homeimprovements without first asking your agent andchecking with buildingregulations. As AlexDickson reminds us, “Acheap makeover will lookexactly that, so if you’regoing to improve theproperty do it properly tosee the return on yourinvestment.”
in a competitivemarket you need your property to stand out.”

The assistant manager Danielle Rycraft, PLA Lettings
Danielle Rycraft, assistant manager at PLALettings’ Walton branch, has quicklyclimbed the career ladder. Danielle overseesvarious areas of the business including theaccounts, liaising with landlords andtenants, recruiting staff and ensuring firstclass customer service.
How did you get into property? I was doing an NVQ in business administration and wasgiven a work placement at a letting agency. It gave me aninsight into how interesting and varied the property world isand left me wanting to know more! I began working part timeat PLA Lettings about two years ago and was eventuallyoffered a full time job here. From there I trained as anassistant manager alongside one of the managing directors, working with landlords and tenants.
How has your career progressed? I’m currently studying for my ARLA qualifications, whichwill mean once they are completed I will be joining our seniormembers of staff who are already ALRA members. We have a really strong team here and the company is growing interms of staff numbers so we’re consistently taking on newproperties. My future goal is to open my own branch of PLALettings. This would be a real challenge and allow us to buildon the success we’ve already enjoyed.
What’s your guilty pleasure?Definitely shoe shopping! I can’t resist scouting out the newranges in Kurt Geiger and Topshop. I like to go all out forelegant party shoes with towering heels!

Q. A couple of years ago I bought a franchise from aCarpet Retailer. I set up a limited company andfinanced the start up of the business with £25,000 ofmy own cash and a loan for £60,000. This was in 2007,and after a few months the business failed completelyand the company was wound up. I lost all of my£25,000 investment. Can I get any of my money back?
A. It may be possible to at least get income tax relief on themoney you invested. This means you may be entitled toclaim a percentage of the £25,000 you lost. This would beup to 40% if you were a higher rate tax payer, and up to22% if you were a basic rate taxpayer.
Q. That sounds better than nothing, how do I claim?
A. There are a number of conditions which must be met,for example:
The company must have been an unquoted ‘trading’company, and HMRC have their own definition of ‘trading’.
You must have subscribed for ordinary shares in thecompany, for the amount you are claiming.
The company needs to have been wound up or struck off.
You will require income in the year of the loss or the yearpreceding against which to offset the loss, this can be asalary you drew from the company in question.
Q. I drew a salary of £20,000 from the company, andpaid tax of over £3,000, can I claim all of this back.
A. On the face of it yes, as your loss of £25,000 could beoffset against that income. “Yes! 2010 needs to start where 2009finishes and continue to encourage firsttime buyers in to the property market. The impetus needs to continue whilstthere are still a few Homebuy Direct newhomes on our developments in Anfieldand Netherley, and good value in newbuild properties can still be found.” Peter Vella
sales director, Miller HomesNorth West
“It’s a question of competing interests. The government has to balance thepotential revenue gained by the re-imposition of the tax against potential lostrevenue to the economy as a whole whentransactions are lost as a result of the tax.It is my view that the threshold should bepermanently moved to £175k, as it is clearthat confidence brought about by a risinghousing market has the potential toimpact on the economic outlookgenerally.”
Paul Bibbymanaging partner, MSB Solicitors
“Yes, most definitely. The housing marketis still delicate at the moment and wedon’t really know what the effect of thereturn of this tax will have on it. I wouldrather the government increased thethreshold to £175,000 rather than justextending it. I also think this governmentshould go even further to stimulate thehousing market by abolishing the HomeInformation Pack in its current form andallow home sales to go forward with justan energy performance certificate.”
Louis Anastasioumanaging director, Andrew Louis
“The stamp duty holiday has beenparticularly useful to first time buyers, many of whom were working with a tightbudget and quite simply would not havebeen able to pay the stamp duty fee.Extending the scheme beyond the 31December 2009 would be a positiveincentive for buyers and perhapsencourage others to move up the propertyladder to a larger home, safe in theknowledge that they are exempt fromstamp duty.”
Matt Elleryregional sales manager,Keepmoat Homes
“Without the stamp duty holiday, somebuyers would simply not be able to affordto purchase and others would need to waituntil they could pay this tax within 30days of completing the purchase. Thewithdrawal of the holiday will causesubstantial damage. The governmentshould honour its undertaking to supportthe housing market, rather than go for aquick fix to improve their tax receipts.”

What drew you to PrioryGate? The close proximity to wherewe were living meant we wereable to retain to retainfriendships we had in the areaand the size of the apartmentwas very important to usbecause we didn’t want to beconfined. We just really likedthe look of the place as well. We’ve only been here a fewweeks but we’re really gettingused to it now.
What are the advantages of the property? We had a very large gardenwhere we were, and we werefinding it a chore. When theleaves came down it was toomuch of hassle. We’re on thefirst floor now and that is what we prefer, as we can enjoyviews right across the field andthe university.
Retirees Lily and Tom Bunner recently moved to a three bedroom apartment at Priory Gate, the prestigious Newfield Jonesdevelopment in Aughton, near Ormskirk.
What about the kitchen? It’s a large kitchen with creamfitted units, divided by apeninsular unit. We’re stilldeciding how to accessorise it.
What about the bathrooms? The en-suite has high glosswhite units and touches ofturquoise and some pretty little mirrors. The mainbathroom is finished in red, white and black.
What’s your favourite item in the property? It’s very difficult to say, Isuppose it’s all our favourite! I’m really happy with themarble fireplace and the coal-effect fire in the living room.
What would be your dream buy?Everything in here is what we wanted. Most of the stuffcame from our previous homeand we’re very happy with itbecause we’ve had it for a longtime. It’s a nice, traditional, classic look.
For more information about PrioryGate and to arrange a viewing, telephone 01695 581358.
What’s your theme? The living room is off a rather nice, wide hall as you enter the apartment. The room is predominantly cream, including the carpet, and we have chosen a lot of elm Ercolfurniture, which is very light. We also have a three piece suite in a floral pattern, in cream, pink and pale green.

We have two lovely, large bedrooms and another we use as a dining room. The master bedroom has an en-suite and there is a separatebathroom across from the guestroom. The only new stuff webought for the apartment was the light beech furniture we bought from Stokers in Ormskirk for the bedroom. Again it’s a predominantly cream room, with splashes of turquoise.
What have you done with the bedrooms?

Brendan Nevin Interview
Brendan Nevin is an experienced consultant, researcher and practitionerand also a visiting professor at Manchester University’s Institute ofPolictical and Economic Governance. Since 1997 Brendan has beeninvolved in a series of housing market studies, which led to the foundationand development of the government’s housing market renewal pathfinderprogramme. He was recently appointed as interim managing director ofNewHeartlands, the pathfinder hoping to tackle the problems of lowdemand and housing market uncertainty in neighbourhoods acrossMerseyside. The man with a quarter of a century of expertise behind himtold Your Move about his hopes for what can be achieved in deprivedcommunities across the region.

Do you know how long you’llhold the interim position? It should be no more than sixmonths, pending anappointment. Interviewshaven’t been held for apermanent appointment yet,but it could be even less thanthat. I’ve taken on the rolebecause I’m very familiar withthe work and I’ve been doingresearch in the area for over adecade so it’s a case of usingthat experience to help theorganisation.
What do you hope toachieve in your time withNewHeartlands? We have a very good team here so we want to continue to function in the same manneras we have been doing.NewHeartlands will continueto position itself for newfunding and we want to makesure the new director doesn’tneed to catch up on any losttime. I want to hand over thereins with NewHeartlands in good shape so the newdirector will be in a strongposition to bid for futureresources.
What are the big challengesNewHeartlands face? There’s an election coming in 2010 so funding may beextremely tight in the future. Our job is only half done hereso the government need toensure we can be financed in order for us to continue our work.
Are you pleased with theprogress being made inLiverpool, Sefton and Wirral?Absolutely. If you look atNewHeartland’s output theyare meeting their targets everyyear and in some casessurpassing them. They aredefinitely one of the strongestof the nine pathfinders.
What’s been the highlight of your career?I’ve worked in the fields ofhousing and urban andregional policy for 25 years andI don’t know if there’s been anyone highlight. I was part of theprocess that designed thehousing market renewalpathfinder programme but Isee that as a long term projectrather than a single event.
It has been one of the biggestprojects of its kind for ageneration and it’s had a verypositive effect on people’s lives.
What do you like aboutLiverpool?I lived in Liverpool as a childand I think it’s a fantastic, vibrant city, with such a richheritage. I love the waterfrontand the many great buildingsand I find the people in the cityare challenging, humorous andvery stoic.
What are your passionsoutside the workplace?I’m a season ticket holder atStoke City and I manage to getto all the home games and someaway. We had 23 years outsidethe top flight so it’s good to beback. When we were relegatedin 1985 we held what was thenthe record for the lowestnumber of points, fewest winsand the lowest number of goalsfor a season in the top flight. You think it can’t get any worsethan that but what came afterwas unbelievably bad. As afather I don’t really have timefor any other passions!

Ruffle some feathersI am looking for some inspiration in decorating mylounge before Christmas and I want it to look reallydifferent. Can you suggest any new paint colours andfabrics that I should be looking at?
One trend at the moment seems to be a return to Tudorsplendour. It’s a fantastic look and we have only thehedonistic courts of Henry VIII to thank for it. Tointerpret this style through colour and your choice offabrics, the palette should be very rich, with burgundy, royal blues, emerald greens and golds. Whilst choosingfabrics I would look for embellishment, and the perfectchoice would be jewel- studded velvets, ruffed materialsand luxurious silks. This peacock chair by Cappellinipays homage to the splendour of the Tudor ruff and court.

I would like to buy my wife a painting for her Christmaspresent this year, preferably from a local artist. Do you have any ideas as to where I could begin my search?
The Gallery Liverpool, The Courtyard, 41 Stanhope Street, has a Christmas art exhibition that runs from Saturday 28 November to Friday 18 December. I think it would be a fantastic place to start your search. The exhibition showsan acclaimed group of local artists exhibiting some veryexciting work. Good luck!
Crystal clear solutionDo you have any great ideas to help us with storage in ourkitchen? Glasses seem to take up so much cupboard space, andthey’re also really awkward to get to without damaging them.We have thought above investing in some shelving before ourfriends stay with us over Christmas, so we’d really welcomeyour suggestions?
Help could be at hand with the new wine glass chandelier, fromDwell. This product is a chandelier, which has a maximumdrop of 90cm, designed particularly to store wine glasses. Thepiece could be hung over your dining table and then you cansimply use the glasses as and when you need them. Not only isit a really clever storage solution, it’s a spectacular light as well.

Wagamama Liverpool OneT: 0151 707 2762
Highlight: The sharing plattersare more than generous to start, orenjoy as a side order, and thequirky bench style seating makes fora relaxed ambiance.
Chef’s special: The chilli squidwas cooked to perfection, while thechicken katsu curry and noodledishes arrive in substantial portionswith plenty of flavour.
“for first timebuyers it’s anaffordablealternative to someof the bigger,landmarkschemes...”
Wagamama’s, on LiverpoolOne’s restaurant terrace, offersthe city a model of the Japanese‘ramen bars’, where food ordersare brought to the table as theycome out of the kitchen andguests enjoy a relaxed diningatmosphere. It’s also perfectlysituated for Portside House, thecity centre’s most recentlylaunched residential scheme, and just a stone’s throw fromLiverpool One.
Over a shared platter of chillisquid and duck gyoza (Japanesedumplings), Alex Lewis, managing director of J.A.Lewis Consulting, and I discussPortside House’s appeal toinvestors in the city centre, andyoung professionals keen tosample city centre living.Having worked on theassembly job for Grosvenor atLiverpool One, which was a“once in a lifetime careeropportunity, working on ascheme of that size,” Alex’sexperience in capitalising onthe potential in a site is servinghim well in his current venture.Originally from York, heworked as a chartered surveyorfor Tushingham Moore inManchester for 12 years before
setting up J.A. LewisConsulting. Alex now sets updeals with investors in thefamily firm’s Portside Housescheme, in which he is apartner, and the family firm’sother ventures which include a 140-bed Premier Inn hotel in Preston.
“The location of PortsideHouse is phenomenal, just 200yards from where we are now. It’s a quality building, withgood sized apartments, carparking, and an internalcourtyard - which is a raregarden space in the city.”Indeed, the solid, reclaimedbrickwork fits in well in theRopewalks and is sure to lastwell. Tenants seem to agree, asAlex added: “Within two weeksof finishing the build we had50 per cent of it let to tenants. It appeals to investors andowner-occupiers, and for firsttime buyers it’s an affordablealternative to some of thebigger, landmark schemes, butwith all the advantages of citycentre living. Starting at£100,000 for a one bedroomapartment, the prices arerealistic.”
Over our main courses of
chicken katsu curry, servedwith boiled sticky rice andpicked vegetables, and beefteriyaki soba noodles for Alex,we discuss the appeal of the cityand the region. A keen golfer,Alex moved to Southport whenhe began working on LiverpoolOne, and enjoys the region’squality of life. At 33, he’s madea name for himself for all theright reasons, and for investorsat Portside House, the pay offcould also prove substantial:“With rents achieving a yield of eight per cent in the currentclimate, it’s appealing toinvestors who can see the goodtimes must be set to return, even if not to previous levels.Values are on the up.”
Over cappuccino and decafflatte, Alex tells me an incentivefor investors to purchase fiveunits is a complimentary twoweek trip to a five star lodgeowned by one of the partners in the scheme, which sleeps 12,in Kruger Park, South Africa.“It’s a real escape from thehustle and bustle of the citycentre,” he tells me, but I cantell that, for the most part, heprefers to keep his finger firmlyon the pulse.

You really can’t beat a goodturkey dinner. What you can dowithout is a constant flow ofinsipid, mass-catered Christmasdinners over a succession offunctions that fall close to the bigday. HoSt, in Liverpool’sculinary epicentre, could not befurther removed from thisscenario and would therefore runclose to my ideal choice for anevent such as an office party. Therestaurant, so-named due to itsHope Street locale, offers anexciting fusion of east and weston its Christmas menu, consistent with its usual, wellcrafted, style. The layout isresolutely informal, befitting all-round festive joviality, withdiners eating from colourfulcommunal tables, seated on long, unassuming wooden benches.HoSt, with its serving hatchover-looking the main diningarea, echoes a bustling New Yorkoriental eatery in a relaxed, refreshing atmosphere and thoseseated at the window can enjoythe surrounding cobbled streetsand Georgian architecture. Themomentum of the inclusive, friendly atmosphere ismaintained by the food, withChristmas diners treated to aselection of starters to share. Mypartner and I sampled a platterincluding chicken satay withpeanut sauce, seared tuna withdashi mayo, aubergine and sobanoodles, crab cakes, rice paperrolls and duck gyoza dumplings. The wealth of styles and flavoursin one serving would surely be aconversation piece for anyassembled group, with thechicken satay and seared tunaproving particularly tantalising. My own contribution to thefusion came with the
accompaniment of a pint ofCains, a quirky appendage to apredominantly Asian venue. This was selected pre-dining atthe well-stocked main bar, beforewe eventually opted for areasonably priced bottle of Grillo,a crisp, fruity white, toaccompany our mains. HoStprovides a generous selection ofmains on its Christmas menu, with my partner choosing thetomato, red lentil and spinachcurry with sweet potato fritters. This delicious winter warmerwas evidence of the variety atHoSt, with the availability ofconventional ‘big plates’ or asampling of smaller tapas-styledishes, conducive to the partyenvironment. My selection ofwok fried three pepper beef withSzechuan pepper and icebergwith jasmine rice did notdisappoint, as the dish found theperfect balance of spice andflavour. By this time we had beenjoined on our table by a group offour and they, like many of the
other patrons, gasped in awe atour generous desert platter, hurriedly scanning through themenu so as to confirm the courseof their dining experience.Another unashamed party piece, the deserts to share includedginger nut cheesecake withpassion fruit jelly, carrot cake, ginger pannacotta and chocolateand chilli brownie with vanillaice cream, decorated with acandied chilli. It was certainly animpressive smorgasbord and weboth agreed the cheesecake, deliciously light and fruity, would prove a favourite for many.HoSt, which hails from the samestable as neighbours The Quarterand the renowned 60 HopeStreet, boasts its place in thecity’s cultural bohemian quarterand the venue is truly deservingof this status due to its marriageof affordability and style. Ifanywhere can rival its £18 a headChristmas menu for quality, choice and value I wouldcertainly like to try it.

The cutThe pin up is one of our newest collectionknown as “Interactive” and will be appearingin over 400 windows worldwide in the nextfew weeks. It takes its influence from thesixties inspired shapes that we’re seeing a lotthis season, particularly on the catwalk.Think butter wouldn’t melt meets bad girlblonde. Sex kittens like Bridgit Bardot,Blondie and Shrimpton and you’re on theright track.Who would it suit?Haircuts are definitely going bigger this year. This is bang on trend and will definitely be ahead turner if you’ve got the look to pull thisoff. We’re moving away from graphic linesand structure for a soft grown up but edgyfeel. This means haircuts are more flatteringand commercial so more face shapes canwear them -and more hairdressers will beable to say “Yes!” instead of “No!”How to styleIts all about the volume! Not as perfectlybackcombed as the first time around, thelook of the season is drier in texture morenatural and slightly dishevelled. Mousse and hairspray are still your staples but don’tbe afraid to try out drier more powderyproducts like Dry Shampoo andResurrection Dust. When your friendscomment that your hair is big tell them its supposed to be! When I’ve done the pin up recently I’ve toldmy clients to remember the golden rules thisseason :- Keep your parting shallow and yourcrown and confidence high!

When high-calibre performersturn their talents to musicalmaking, you can expect morethan just a good old song anddance – and Nine is alreadybeing billed as a probable Oscarwinner. The plot follows the lifeof Guido Contini, legendarydirector basking in the success ofhis most recent and greatestwork in 1960s Venice, played byDaniel Day-Lewis. Facing theprospect of his 40th birthday,Guido finds his creativeimpulses stifled. Based on MauryYeston’s 1982 Broadway musicalNine, inspired by influentialItalian director Federico Fellini’sautobiographical film 8 ½, thisproduction, in Yeston’s words, more than makes up the “half anumber more” added to take thefirst film into a musical. Indeed, this is not a film that does thingsby half. The impressive femalecast supporting Day-Lewisincludes Marion Cotillard as hiswife, Penelope Cruz as hismistress, Nicole Kidman as hisfilm star muse, Sophia Loren ashis mother, and Judi Dench ashis confidant. Directed by RobMarshall, responsible for thefilm remake of Chicago, Rent,Hairspray, Sweeney Todd andMamma Mia, Nine looks set to become much more than justa number in this year’s review of the best films, and the best musicals.
Nine is showing at cinemas from 18 December.

My Favourite//// NATASHA HAMILTON - SINGER
Natasha Hamilton, soulful solosinger and former member of thestormingly successful girl groupAtomic Kitten, is set to star inpanto at the Empire in the leadrole of Peter Pan. Ahead of herpreparations for the festiveseason, we asked her about someof her favourite things.
Liverpool venueI’ve sung in the new arena a few times andthere’s always a great atmosphere, but I think I’d have to say the Royal Court when I was with Atomic Kitten. That was one of the venueson our first theatre tour and the first big homecrowd we sang to, with all our families there, and the atmosphere was just electric. I’malso really looking forward to performing atthe Empire again; my first performancethere was aged 14 in a ‘RememberingDiana’ concert.
Beauty productI’d have to say Decleor Hydrafloral,
which is a really hydratingmoisturiser for winter, and shouldstop me from getting dry skin.
JewelleryI have a gold Roberto Cavalli ringwith a massive stone and a snakegoing over the top. It’s really heavyand I can feel the weight of it on myhand when I’m singing. It was aChristmas present from a friendand it’s my favourite piece of bling!
RestaurantI love the Bar and Grill, it’s a great place to startoff the evening. My favourite cocktail has to be astrawberry daiquiri.
OutfitI recently bought a new oversized blue blazer in
River Island. It’s leopard print and navy, andI love it.
ShoesI’ve just bought some new boots from KurtGeiger with six inch heels and bigplatforms in grey leather. The part on top
of the foot looks like a legwarmer, and theylook great with ripped jeans.
BookI’ve just finished reading The Fortress by DanBrown. Peter Kay has got a book coming out and that’s on my Christmas wish list!
FilmDirty dancing, I must have watched it over 100times now.
CostumeI like to wear something different every timeI perform, so I choose beautiful dressesfrom Philip Armstrong.
AlbumIt has to be anything by Earth, Wind andFire every time – it always cheers me up!
SingerI love Whitney Houston and her brilliantcomeback – I really hope I get to see herwhen she tours.
SongOne of my favourites has to be GladysKnight’s ‘You’re the best thing thatever happened to me’. I sang it to
Riad at our wedding. It might seem soppy but it’s about the ups and downs in life, and it’s beautiful.
MusicalWe took the kids to see The Lion King inLondon on Sunday, and it was absolutelyamazing, even emotional.
HolidayThe Maldives, definitely. Wewent there for ourhoneymoon andit’s a paradise.Just being in the middle of the oceanwas amazing.
