Sustainability: maintaining the ability of the environment and the economy to continue to produce and satisfy needs and wants into the future; depends crucially on the preservation of the environment over
time. Related to the concept of sustainable development, meaning ‘Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs),
which is the idea that the use of natural resources in the present should not leave behind fewer or lower quality resources for use by future generations.
