INTERNATIONAL LUSTRUMPROJECT
PROJECT SONNEBLOM/WASHINGTON
SOUTH AFRICA
1
Rotary Club Doorn 1949-2009
Mission Statement
In South Africa there are “villages” where almost just women and young children reside in desolate surroundings. There is no school for the children. The men work in the cities and spend their money overthere.
In these circumstances sometimes women themselves take initiatives to escape from poverty. Those women need to be supported so that they can execute their ideas in short: community development.
Some organizations support these initiatives financially; the local people execute the project themselves. The organisation regularly checks the progress.
Rotary Club Doorn will stimulate this communitydevelopment by the project Sonneblom in coöperation with Rotary Club Vryburg in South Africa.
Concretely the clubs together will support entrepeneurial initiatives. She wants to educate children and to supply healthy food from a communal village garden that needs essentials as an irrigationsystem and fences.
The estimated costs of this project are € 20.000. This amount will be spent and checked by Southern Cross in South Africa and the Kruisbogen Foundation Doorn in the Netherlands.
