• The Union of South American Nations is an intergovernmental body modeled after the European Union. Known as UNASUR, the group acts as a forum for interaction between member-country leaders and also serves as a platform for interregional trade promotion.
The South American Community of Nations
(CSN, Spanish Acronym) was created
at the Meeting of Presidents of South
America held on December 8th of 2004
in Cuzco Peru.
The CSN was created with the aim of integrating regional processes developed by the Mercosur and the Andean Community.
On May 23rd of 2008 the Treaty of the Union of South American
Nations was approved.
• UNASUR is the successor of the South American Community of Nations (Comunidad Sudamericana de Naciones; CSN), which was established when 12 South American leaders signed the Cuzco Declaration in the city of Cuzco, Peru, in 2004.
