Reading

Children will read to an adult in school at least twice a week.

Children read during guided reading sessions and during phonic lessons.

Children have access to class books which they can take home and share with you.

Children will also have access to the online reading books called ‘Bug Club’.

Guided Reading- Takes place daily after lunch and

consists of five rotational activities.- There will be follow-up activities for the

children to complete.- Mixture of fiction and non-fiction- Comprehension questions- Emphasis on understanding the book,

not just fluency.

Phonics Important part of child's learning as it helps

them to read and spell.Children will be assessed and grouped

across the year, to improve their phonetic ability.

Phonics five days a week. Homework will continue in the same format as last year (sent out on a Thursday to be in by Tuesday).

In June the children undertake a National Phonic Screening Assessment where they will read real and nonsense words. (More information will be given to you in the workshop on the 30th September and 1st October).

Spellings/Homework

Spellings will be sent home on a ThursdayPLEASE PRACTISE FREQUENTLY, but in a fun way!For example, children can look for them in

newspapers or magazines and cut them out to make a collage.

Encourage children to look for them in their reading book or story books that you share at night.

Maths Important to be integrated into real life

scenarios e.g. shopping and using money, shape spotting, counting paving slabs when walking…

Mathletics - Children will have their own log in and be able to access games and challenges at home. They will need to complete a set task before choosing what they would like to play supporting having fun whilst learning.

Homework will be games and challenges, but we will still send mental maths practice for those who like to record on paper.
