3 different movie remake trailers and the differences between them

By Michael Luton

First movie: Red Dawn• Red Dawn was first made in 1984 and was remade in 2012. Red Dawn is a film about a small

American town, which gets invaded by a foreign army and forced out of their homes. A bunch of friends put together a group to fight back called the Wolverines.

• 1984 film trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRTzUHmx9ZA• 2012 film trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGoe7BdGdlg• First of all the 2012 version has way better cinematography than the 1984 version just

because of the way that the film has been shot. Secondly in the 1984 version, the Russian army invades a town in Colorado, but in the 2012 version a city in Washington is invaded by Korea.

• The 2012 version is a modern day version while the 1984 version is set in the 80s so it would feel old for a person watching the film today. Also being set in the 80s many things are different compared to the remake such as clothes and music etc.? Also the 1984 version came out during the Cold War, which takes us back to the Ronald Reagan era, when the Cold War still dominated American culture.

First movie: Red Dawn

• Unlike the 1984 version, the 2012 version follows a love story between two characters Matt Eckard (played by Josh peck) and Erica (played by Isabel Lucas) that takes away the action from the film and storyline in my opinion.

• In the 1984 version, the wolverines head for the mountains while in the 2012 version the two brothers are told by their father who was a cop to head to their cabin in the woods where he would meet them later. So for the most part of the film the setting is different because of the change of the backgrounds.

Second movie: Karate Kid• 1984 Movie Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7JhKCQnEqQ• 2010 Movie Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY8amUImEu0

• Karate Kid was made in 1984 and was remade in 2010, the 1984 version is about Daniel LaRusso, a high school senior, moves with his mother Lucille from New Jersey to Los Angeles. Their apartment's handyman is an immigrant named Kesuke Miyagi. Daniel befriends a cheerleader at school, which makes her ex-boyfriend jealous; her ex-boyfriend is a skilled practitioner of "Cobra Kai", an unethical and vicious form of Karate. Her ex-boyfriend and all of his gang continuously torment him until Kesuke Miyagi saves him and single handily beats all of the bully’s, and then teaches him Karate so Daniel can win the Karate tournament.

• The 2010 version is about twelve-year-old Dre Parker and his mother Sherry move from Detroit to Beijing after getting a job transfer. After a day in a park, Dre develops a crush on a young violinist, Meiying, who reciprocates his attention, but a 14-year old boy named Cheng, a rebellious kung fu prodigy whose family is close to Meiying's, attempts to keep them apart by tormenting Dre, and later bullies him at school. During an attack, the maintenance man Mr. Han comes to Dre's aid, revealing himself as a kung fu master. Then teaches Dre Karate so he can win the Karate tournament.

Second movie: Karate Kid• The 2010 version has better cinematography than the 1984 version just because of the time

zone that the film was made in, also the 1984 version was set in America but the 2010 version was set in Beijing so the 2010 version has a completely different background and also all of the extras in the 2010 version would be from Beijing to set the scene, and in the 1984 version, all of the extras would be American. Both the 1984 and the 2010 version has the same story because in both films there is romance between the main character and a girl, also there is the antagonist who tries to stop them being together. And also in both versions there is the “handyman” who helps the main character and teaches him Karate.

• The 2010 version features more famous actors than the 1984 version, Jaden Smith as Dre Parker and Jackie Chan as Mr Han star in the 2010 version while Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso and Noriyuki Morita as Keisuke Miyagi in the 1984 version.

Third Movie: Spiderman• 2002 movie trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KW8stZ2jSQ• 2012 movie trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atCfTRMyjGU• Spiderman was made in 2002 and was remade in 2012, in the 2002 version Peter Parker visits a genetics

laboratory with his best friend Harry Osborne and Peter's love interest, Mary Jane Watson on a school trip. There, he is bitten on the hand by a genetically engineered "super spider". After he returns home he falls unconscious. Meanwhile, Harry's father, scientist Norman Osborn, owner of Oscorp, experiments on himself with a new performance-enhancing chemical vapour which drives him insane and he kills his assistant. The next morning, Peter finds that his impaired vision has improved and that his body has transformed into a muscular physique. At school, he finds that his body is able to produce webs and his quickened reflexes help him avoid injury during a confrontation with a bully. Peter later discovers that he has also developed speed, strength, the ability to stick to surfaces, and ability to sense danger.

• In the 2012 version a young Peter Parker, while walking through his house, discovers his father’s study has been burgled and ransacked, his father, Richard finds Peter in the mess. Gathering up all the hidden documents, Richard and his wife, Mary, take him to the home of his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, and then mysteriously depart, never to be seen again.

• Years later, a teenage Peter attends High School, At home, Peter finds his father's papers and learns he worked with fellow scientist Dr. Connors at Oscorp. Sneaking into Oscorp, Peter enters a lab where a "biocable" is under development from genetically modified spiders, which bites him.

Third Movie: Spiderman• Peter returns home late, and had an argument with Ben that prompts Peter to storm out.

While searching for Peter, Uncle Ben attempts to stop a thief and is killed when the gun that the thief was holding discharges into his stomach. The thief escapes as Peter finds Ben on the sidewalk.

• After seeing success with the mouse, using lizard DNA, Ratha demands Connors begin human trials immediately if Osborn is to survive. Connors refuses to rush the drug-testing procedure and put innocent people at risk. In an act of desperation, Connors tries the formula on himself. After passing out, he awakens to find his missing arm has regenerated; his skin then started turning green and scaly turning into his alter ego, the lizard.

• The 2012 version has better cinematography, better special effects with the lizard and the 2012 version is just an all round better film because of how technology has gotten better, also Sam Raimi directed the 2002 version while Marc Webb directed the 2012 version, so the two directors had different ideas when filming.

• Also the main antagonist in the 2002 version was the green goblin (Norman Osbourne) and the antagonist in the 2012 version is the lizard (Dr. Connors).

• Also in the 2002 version Peter likes a girl called Mary Jane Watson while in the 2012 version he likes a girl called Gwen Stacy. At some points in the 2012 version, some parts of the film is really dark, so its quite hard to understand what is going on in the scene.

• My opinion of the 2012 version was that they dragged out scenes, which did not need to be dragged out, then the made scenes that were actually relevant to the storyline shorter. But overall I thought it was a decent film.

Third Movie: Spiderman• My opinion of the 2002 version was well written with a good storyline of Peter being good friends with

the main antagonists son. Also it had realistic looking CGI but I think the 2012 version has even better CGI. Overall I thought both versions are very good films.

Dr. Connors turns into the lizard

Norman Osbourne turns into the Green Goblin
