ACID POISONING

Suicidal or homicidal or accidental.
Acids which are used like nitric, sulphuric, hydrochloric carbolic,
oxalic and acetic acids.
SYMPTOMSBurns on or around the lips.
Burning in the mouth, throat and stomach often followed by heavy vomiting
Intense thirst
TREATMENT
Same as in general management of poisoning
GENERAL :
Check and monitor the persons airway, breathing and pulse.
SPECIFIC
Keep the person comfortable. The person should be rolled
onto the left side, and remain there while getting or waiting
for medical help.
Give half litre of water or
milk in which milk of magnesia (50 grams) has
been added.
If milk or water is not available then olive oil, butter, white of an egg and barley water can
be given.
As quickly as possible, flush contaminated area with lukewarm, gently flowing water for at least 20-30mints.
Remove all the jewellery or clothing which had contact with acid.
Don’t apply any kind of
cream and ointment on the affected area as it may
slow the treatment procedure by doctors.
Shift the casualty immediately to the
hospital.
Do not Induce vomiting unless you are
told to do so by the poison control center or a Doctor.
Do not Try to neutralize the poison
with lime juice or vinegar; or any other substance, unless u are told to do so by the poison control centre or a Doctor.
Do not Use any “cure - all” type
antidote. Wait for symptoms to develop
if you suspect that someone has been poisoned.
