WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I am many years removed from this story by age but I always carry it in my heart. Back in the 1970's, I was traveling on a "student fare" and flew in and out of Newark airport.

I had made a mistake in making reservations and though I was in the airport before noon, the student fares were for off hours "after midnight".

I slept in the airport for a while and then put my things into a locker and ventured into Newark. With little money to spend, I quickly got tired/bored and returned to the airport to sit around.

A security guard had seen me earlier and after my return came up and asked me what my story was. I told him. He said that he was a part of the'Nation of Islam' and asked if I was hungry.

I said yes and he said that he would take me to one of their restaurants for food and bring me back to the airport in time for my flight. He left me with the ladies of his people who fed me and allowed me to nap. He also called my mother and explained what happened.

He picked me up, took me back to the airport and called my mother to assure her that I got on the flight (after midnight). When I thanked him he said to just remember to extend all the kindness I could to anyone coming into my life.

I never forgot his kindness and have been blessed to be able to be a help to lots of people over the years.
