Adobe Premiere - Edits, Transitions and Effects One of the features of the software I have employed to piece together my music video is the ability to add different effects to footage. Adobe Premiere comes equipped with effects and transitions for both video and audio, allowing me to edit footage together in time to the music and make the edit more professional. This is what the sequence of media for my video looks like. Similarly to photoshop, the software works in layers. In this sequence, I have utilised a number of effects to edit my video and make it stylistically the way I want it to appear. For instance, at 1.05 minutes in I use a reverse edit of people moving on escalators in the Trafford Centre. This reverses for a small moment in time with the lift in the song. I achieved this by editing the clip's speed and, already multiplied by 400, and reversing it, then duplicating the footage so there is no gap. The aesthetic achieved by this is something that was complimented specifically more than once in my focus group and is something I am pleased with myself. Another instance in which I edited the speed of clips to create an effect was for the time lapse which transitions the video from day to night at 2.11 minutes in. This started as

Adobe Premiere - Edits, Transitions and Effects

One of the features of the software I have employed to piece together my music video is the ability to add different effects to footage. Adobe Premiere comes equipped with effects and transitions for both video and audio, allowing me to edit footage together in time to the music and make the edit more professional.

This is what the sequence of media for my video looks like. Similarly to photoshop, the software works in layers. In this sequence, I have utilised a number of effects to edit my video and make it

stylistically the way I want it to appear.

This started as over six minutes worth of footage. On a separate premiere sequence, I placed these together (including a cross disolve) and made it move nearly

10,000 times faster. However, this still wasn't fast enough for the space I wanted it to fill, so I exported this separately. I then imported this into my final draft and made it faster again. The editing capabilties of Premiere

allowed me to achieve this effect. As I have no footage which is in semi-darkness, this allows a smooth transition of my light footage to the dark.

Nevertheless, this still presents an issue later when the video is supposed to be at night but the footage is too light to display this. To fix this, I used the editing capabilities of Premiere to add a video effect to a few pieces of the footage near the end. This effect comes under brightness and contrast settings. In this footage, I decreased the brightness of these clips so that the day appears to be later than it is. Although the sky isn't as dark as it should be, there is still a graphic match in the brightness of the overall ending of the video. Likewise, I employed this effect to the footage of the reflection of a high rising building, but also edited the contrast which works better on the water.

The overall footage is pieced together using video transitions. The main transition employed is a cross dissolve, but I have also used others such as film dissolves and dips to black. When I used premiere as part of my evaluation, I also included title sequences and exponential audio fades to make the sequence seem more professional.

Overall, I believe I have learned how to use premiere well throughout my project and my confidence with the software has grown a lot since September.
