Some advice for the oral

exam

Adjectives

• Use a variety of adjectives to be more colourful:

• Personality adjectives to talk about people: cheerful, reliable, stubborn, honest, charming, witty, quick-tempered, adventurous…

• Also positive and negative adjectives to talk about things: amusing, convenient, practical, enjoyable, inexpensive, astonishing….

TensesLearn verb tenses well.

Remember there isn’t a grammar test and your knowledge of

grammar will be tested in your oral exam.

The teachers want to know if you are able to speak in present, past,

future…if you are able to talk about plans ‘going to’, hypothesis ‘I would’, facts (present perfect)

etc…

Connectors Use a variety of connectors: Result: therefore, as a result… Emphasis: in fact, obviously, in

particular… Contrast: on the one hand, on the

other hand, on the contrary, nevertheless…

Addition: besides, furthermore, in addition…

Example: for instance, that is, such as…

Comparison: similarly, same as, just as…

For the interactions…• Learn some expressions for

suggestions:– How about…?– Why don’t we…?– Let’s…– Would you like to…?

• Learn some expressions for opinions:– In my view…– If you ask me…– As I see it…– I would definitely like..

VocabularyShow that you know some vocabulary:prepare vocabulary for the different topics.An oral exam can also be prepared.

QuestionsRead the questions carefully.Answer everything possible.Try to stick to the topic.

Personal experiences

Include personal experiences in the exam.Talk about yourself.

Keep speaking…

Do not finish before the time, otherwise you haven’t really done the exam.During your preparation time think of enough things to say.

Any practice is good practice. Join the speaking clubs.

Listen to English very often.

Be immersed in English in the way to the exam.

Be polite: say hello and goodbye to the teachers.

Speak in a loud voice.
