Key research themes
Position Painpoint
Proliferation of devices / apps, rise of BYOD means increased fragmentation
Poor visibility over what is being used / by who
Schools are dealing with “an unknown network” - they are frustrated by lack of visibility and struggle to fulfil their duty of care / ensure network security
Unable to plan for demand and meet schools WiFi needs
Most looking to upgrade WiFinetworks in next 12 months.
Lack clear roadmap to future connectivity and ROI beyond moving to latest WiFi standard

Device proliferation & preferences
75% of schools and colleges encourage
students to use their own devices, although
only 42% have necessary controls in place
Most deployed school-owned classroom devices include Chromebooks, laptops, Surface tablets and iPads – with
Chromebooks the preferred choice

The visibility challenge
Multiple users and multiple devices have created “an unknown network”
The majority do not have full visibility of the network with visibility particularly low for:
- Unauthorised applications- Teachers accessing the network- Students accessing the network- Personal devices accessing the network- Guests accessing the network
Almost two thirds report a lack of visibility of users, devices, and applications as a significant frustration with existing WiFi, despite duty of care being cited as a critical IT priority over the next year

Visibility brings benefits
94% say their leadership team is focused on
digital learning and using technology to support learning
Just 5% think students and teachers are
extremely satisfied with current WiFi provision
59% acknowledge their school does not have the best possible WiFi / connectivity to support
digital learning – amongst this group 90% say there is definite room for improvement
Half (51%) say their WiFi infrastructure is holding back digital progress in their school

Intelligence unlocks learning
53% recognise that connectivity in schools
can improve the overall learning outcomes and results
Schools readily recognise the benefits of WiFi / connectivity
92% believe high quality Wi-Fi positively
impacts the learning experience and outcomes for students
Schools readily recognise WiFi as being beneficial to a range of student types and subjects

Invest today, for tomorrow
78% think they’ll need to review and update
their WiFi provision within the next year to compete with the best schools in the area
62% have the latest WiFi standard (802.11ac),
but 53% are operating with the previous
version and 20% are using pre-2007 standards
Among those not using latest WiFi standard,
67% plan to upgrade in next 12 months
Satisfaction levels with overall WiFiperformance increase with the latest standard – and fewer frustrations are experienced
53% say their investment in WiFi lags behind
their investment in mobile devices and classroom technology
