The “Josh” Wake-Up Call - 2005A>> YOU’RE NOT ON THE

RADAR !!B>> YOU’RE NOT VIEWED AS A

TEAM PLAYER!!

BRUTAL HONESTY DOES NOT WORK FOR MANY OF YOU HERE, BUT IT WORKS FOR ME & IT WORKED THAT DAY COMING FROM A FRIEND THAT I TRUSTED

THE MANRESA WEEKENDBEING SENT HOME

•CNN News (2005 most photographed home in America)

•3 of the 6 agents in our 70,000 person town retired or bailed within 30-60 days.

Future?

Page 11: Alabama part 1

I return to St. Bernard Parish on

9-11-2005 And until then I thought nothing could be worse than 9-11-01.

• Went in Armed, with full Kevlar…civil unrest still persisted.

• State Farm (Citiplace Baton Rouge –Command Central)

• State Farm Double Wide Operations Center Wal-Mart Parking Lot

• Became Media Trained

• Became member of Citizens Recovery Commission

• Slept with Razz (raised home only got 2-3 inches of water)

• No electricity early. **Then only 1 light for several weeks.

All watered Down

I CAN NEVER ERASE THE MEMORY OF THE “TOTAL DARKNESS AT NIGHT” - THAT REIGNED OVER A ONCE VIBRANT CITY OF 70,000.

Daily Parish Operations Meeting 8am---all Government, Police, & any affiliated parties.

Page 14: Alabama part 1

“USUALLY ADVERSITY HAS A WAY OF KNOCKING YOU OFF TRACK. IN MY CASE THE ADVERSITY OF KATRINA GAVE ME MY

CAREER BACK” IT GAVE ME REASON TO BE NEEDED BY THE CUSTOMER

IT GAVE ME THE MOTIVATION TO BE “SIGNIFICANT” AGAIN

IT GAVE ME A CHANCE TO FEEL I COULD MAKE A “DIFFERENCE” AGAIN

IT GAVE ME A CHANCE TO FALL BACK IN LOVE WITH STATE FARM

IT WAS TIME TO RELEASE THE BITTERNESS & RE-ENGAGE

Page 15: Alabama part 1

“HOW DID I SPECIFICALLY MAKE:

2007 CHAIRMANS CIRCLE

2007 CENTRAL REGIONAL VICE-PRESIDENTS CLUB

2007 EXTENDED AMBASSADOR TRAVEL

“I” NEVER MADE ANYTHING

Page 16: Alabama part 1

Only thing I take credit for is KNOWING I could not accomplish those 3 goals without: A TOTAL TEAM EFFORT & making EVERYDAY

Important.

“Keep up the outstanding focus. One of the things I really like about you is that it appears that EVERYDAY MATTERS TO YOU” – Kevin Garrett,Oklahoma AFE (and LSU graduate)

“Marvin, what amazes me about you is that you ‘wake up’ every morning in a different world” –Georgia

I embraced TANDEM APPOINTMENTS!!

Why do we do them?1. I knew we needed to sell more products on each appointment to EXISTING CLIENTS (VERTICAL SELLING)

2. I knew that my newly formed team had “self-confidence, knowledge & selling gaps” and they needed to hear & learn from their leader.

3. I hate paperwork (My Kolbe proves it). My Team Members love Bonus Money. They prep for the appointment. All I do is sign. If I have to do more, they don’t earn Bonus. They don’t want me touching paper.

4. Allows me to use my Strengths & the Strengths of my Team Members.5. Commissioned Teacher/Counselor (whiteboard & expo marker & I’m

happy)

Page 19: Alabama part 1

Impressive ofc!! NOT!!

Page 20: Alabama part 1

Tandems - Huge Benefit #1 The Communication Dynamic is

totally different & so much better!

It’s not “selly”, it’s “consultative”. “It’s not combative or conflictive, it’s

“collaborative”. Non Tandem Appointments generate 1-3

items on Things to Do List. Tandem Appointments generate 8-9 items

on Things to Do List. “We want it all & we earn it all”

Page 21: Alabama part 1

Tandems - Huge Benefit #2

If you believe the speed of the leader is the speed of the pack – the tandem appointment allows your team to see you lead.

Remember - your Team Members, like your kids, watch everything you say & do or DON’T DO!
