My Book About Colonial Life in New England

My parents named me Ester Smith. I was named after my great grandma, Ester James everyone said she was a great women. I am eight years old and have short brown hair and light brown eyes. I am five foot two inches in height. I am a very nice person everyday I help my neighbors. I am also a fast runner. I love to play with my friends and my dog.

I also have a wonderful family that is helpful. We are very poor and do not have anything, but that’s ok to me. There are six people in my family. My fathers name is John. My moms name is Verity. I have two sisters one is Tabitha hat is twelve and Lydia is ten and Clair that is fourteen. My family takes care of me when I am hurt or sick and that is why I love them.

My house

I live in a wonderful home. It is a log cabin out in the woods. We have a garden behind the house. We have a chimney on the roof. We only have three beds because my sister and I have a bunk bed. Inside the kitchen we have some fruits hanging from the ceiling. We have flowers all over the house. My parents said it took twelve weeks to build that small house and I could not believe it!

I do not have very many clothes, my mom makes all the clothes we wear. My favorite color is purple so my mom makes several dresses that are purple. We can not have many clothes because we are poor and we can not afford all the material.

My dad loves his job. Every morning my dad wakes up when I am up and starts singing about his job because he loves it so much. All I want to do is make him be quiet. My dad is a wheelwright that is where he makes wagons and wagon wheels. He works long nights so when he gets home there is no food left or it is cold because he gets home late. His partner’s name is James. My dad has been working there for probably over twelve years. My whole family thinks that he has the best job. Some of the tools he had to use is a wooden hammer and a wooden ax.

I love my mom she always makes me delicious beans and ham. She is the cook of the family so when I am hungry I rely on her to cook something for me. When I grow up I want to be just like her so I learn how to cook some things by watching her cook. Sometimes I will I cook supper without her. Some of the tools she had to use is a spoon made of wood.

I have very many chores to do. It is mostly on the farm but not in the house because my sisters do not go outside and like to get dirty like I do so they get inside chores. Some of chores I do is feed the pigs that is the number 1 thing I had to do. Some of the tools I had to use is cups and food. If I did not do a chore I would get spanked.

In my room I do not have many games or toys. When I go to my room I play with my toy dolly. My favorite game to play is cup ball. That is were there is a ball tied to a string and a cup and then you try to make the ball in the cup. I can never make the ball in.

Have you ever had some French toast or bread? I have and those are my favorite foods. When I wake up my mom makes some French toast or when I get home there is some bread on the table and a piece laying there cut for me. My favorite dinner food is ham and beans. When my dad gets home I make him his favorite meal for him so he has something to eat since the supper we ate is cold and all gone. Also my favorite lunch is eggs and cheese.

I have a school out in the middle of nowhere. I have to walk to school and when I am late I run. Sometimes I will get lost. When I go to school I wish they would make a machine that I can go to school in. I have a very nice teacher named Mrs. Higgabottom. She always calls on me and when we read we stand up in the front. Some of the supplies we use are horn books to read.

I would try so hard not to get in trouble so I would not go to the barn and get whipped. When I get whipped it is for doing something wrong and I have to pull my pants down and get it bare. When I get whipped it is usually my dad that does it because my mom is nice. My dad makes me so mad sometimes.

My family takes care of me well. Everyone in my town gets taken care well. One thing people in our town remember is if you want treated well than treat others the way you want to be treated. When my mom is sick it is hard because she is the one who takes care of us.

Different medicines

I love going to church. We have to sing out loud and I get to go to Sunday school. There are many other kids that are younger than me that go there with me. My parents do not like going to church because you have to wake up early but I love it. My church is not very big but I am glad I got to help build it.

We do not have very many laws. I thought some of the laws were not right. You would have to get whipped with a hole paddle if you disobeyed the laws. My family never will disobey the law because they do not believe in doing wrong
