• World sixth largest country, with 7 major states. • Its Population is around 23.3 million.• It is An undoubted USA ally.• Commonwealth country.• So far Pakistani’s are treated equally in Australia.( No visible

racism). • Major source of income is mining and petroleum.

Islam in Australia

• Image of Islam in Australia I think its not very bad and not very good as well. • Recent terrorist attacks in Australia also people from Australia flying to Iraq to

join ISIS make them little bit worried. • However with these problem still society accepts u and don’t do discrimination

on religious bases. If any person do that they held accountable for that and could be prosecuted by law.

• Every religion has their rights in Australia and all religion can practice their religion freely in Australia.

• Every major city has a mosque. Moreover Muslim use to pray; wherever they get space (No restrictions or laws) all u have to do is care about not to say ur prays on private property or if u do then make sure u ask first from owner.

• Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are three major cities of Australia. All these major cities have Imam bargh and people organise every event there.

• Ashura jaloos being held in all three major cities.

Expenses in Australia!

• No one can define expenses; anywhere in the world; it depends on your life style.

• But generally as a middle class Pakistani; I can generalize as

• Single person(1000 AUD) out of which around 400-600 is for residence.

• Family (Husband and spouse; or one little child)(1500-2000 AUD).

• Visa requirement for single person is 18000-20000 AUD per annum. U have to proof that u have that much money if you are self-finance.

Professor• Oper Allah neechay Professor!• Professor is All in all.• He/She is incharge of Laboratory and responsible for ur research and degree.

You don’t have to worry about money as it is managed by University. • When he thinks that you are done then nobody can stop him from giving you

doctorate/Masters degree. And if he is not satisfied then no one can give you your degree.

• He can make you leave after one year. Here in Australia if you get PhD u have to pass Confirmation after one year. In confirmation seminar you have to display you research and what you have done in one year. Mainly you have to justify your external and school that you are worthy enough to carry out ur PhD.

• Many university also have mid-candidature seminar in which u have to justify your PhD going in right direction and you will get your degree on time

• Mostly Professors are kind, but they would not tolerate if you don’t study well.

Lab culture• Lab is the second home of every post

graduate student.• Student has to follow the Rules(Vary from

lab to lab) of the lab of his Professor( For example lab timing, cleaning schedule etc).

• Most often student will be provided with a sitting place and computer by the lab.

• He should be at that place in lab timings except when he has class or Lunch time or is doing experiment.

• Usually student study Research papers and do their assignments at their desks.

• However for Pakistani students Facebook; Messenger, skype and other activities go side by side.

Admissions

• Admissions are done twice a year• Fall semester starts in September and Spring

semester in Feb.• Admission results are announced almost two

months before the commencement of classes.• So Admission procedure starts even before that;

exact dates can be found in academic calendar of every university.

• GRE is not required by any university of Australia however IELTS is required.

University scholarships

• University Scholarship is offering a good amount of Living allowance with fee tuition. Its around 2000 AUD for MS (1.5 year with 6 month extendable) and for PhD (3 years with 6 months extendable + 3month thesis writeup scholarship). University offers APA (Australian postgraduate reward) IPRS (International postgraduate research award scholarship) and University own Scholarship Scheme. University also covers the health cover if you succeed in securing APA or IPRS Scholarship. However if you only manage to get University Scholarship then you will have to manage ur own health cover which will cost around 2000-2500 AUS for 4 years.

Criteria for Scholarship • Must have MS or atleast BS honors degree if you are planning to apply for PhD. • You should have good marks in Ielts/toefl. • Must have 1st class degree ( by first class mean you should secure CGPA which

categorize your grade as A+ or A). • Must have one publication in any journal ( don’t worry about journals with

impact factor, just focus to get a publication in any online journal). • If you have BS honors then you have to justify why they should consider you

for PhD (for MS you don’t have to worry about). You can argue that you have last year of your honors as research experience and ever in Pakistan you can go to PhD ( course as MS-PHD)

• Scholarship season starts from March (outcome in July or August)and September (outcome in December) every year.

• One candidate can apply to only one campus and only one department at a time, so it is better to contact Professor and get acceptance before admissions start.

Scholarship for Women

• I don’t have enough info regarding it. However I have seen on QUT website there is Scholarship specific for Women. It title as Women re-entry Scholarship.

• Interesting thing is they have lenient criteria for this scholarship.

• YOU don’t have to worry about paper and 1st Class degree you just need 2nd upper class degree which is equivalent to B or B+ grade.

• However this scholarship doesn’t cover any health insurance.

HEC ScholarshipsAustralia Universities What HEC will Cover

Curtin University of Technology, Australia

Due to very high tuition fee at Australian Universities and livening cost at Australia, HEC scholarship will cover only stipend and may be very nominal support in tuition fee. Candidates have to bear tuition fee and any other additional expenses from their own sources. Candidates will have to provide proof of funds and surety that they have enough funds to bear the tuition fee and they will not engage themselves in any kind of job during the study.

Professor Scholarship

• Every Professor in Australian Universities gets fund form different sources for research.

• From this fund Professors hire talented people from different countries to work in their labs.

• Professor usually manage to get tuition fee scholarship for student from Uni and allow Uni to give living allowance to student as per Australian Standards (which mean ~2000 AUD per month).

• Students do research work; which helps student for their thesis and professor to do the projects assigned to him by different industries etc.

How to find a Professor Scholarship?

• Step#1;Find a Professor/Lab which is working in the field of you interest.

• Step#2; Send him your Cv and SOP(statement of Purpose; how to write SOP link at the bottom of this slide) via email(Mentioned on lab website). If you can make a research proposal,,Great!!! But if that particular work mentioned in Research proposal is not being done in Professors lab,,He will not cosider you. So to be on safe side make a proposal according to Professors work

• In both of Scholarship you must have acceptance letter from any university within Australia. For acceptance letter you don’t have to worry about contacting supervisor just go on university website apply for admission and then they can give you acceptance letter as soon as you meet their minimum requirements for the course.

• Professors usually donot reply; but if they reply positively it means they are interested in taking you as a student.

• Don’t loose heart; Keep on trying.• If you are not deadly interested in one field;

then visit the professor’s profile; make an Sop and Research proposal according to his interest and send him. Chances of Success will increase.
